  1. One can be compassionate and not be Christian. It's not a litmus test to caring. An example? Sure. But not a requirement.
  2. That's where I'm at. Compassion isn't about the other person. It's about the one who offers it. Much like forgiveness. And I have a problem with taking it back. To me, taking it back means it wasn't meant in the first place. How can one retract compassion?
  3. I that puppy! I need to come and see her huge Camo butt!
  4. I forgot to add--his crime was a dozen years ago.
  5. In my time away from pcom, I haven't been away from the Internet. A large group of women I have come to know online rallied around a man in his late 30's who'd had a debilitating stroke. Prayers, wishes, and most especially, money was sent on his behalf. His devastating stroke was not a scam--the man was in need of help, physically, materially, and emotionally. Last week, it came out that the man is a registered sex offender, accused of indecency with a boy aged 15. People who had previously supported him were INCENSED. They wanted their contributions back. They were outraged.
  6. ::waves at all the "old" folks::
  7. The performance of that song was the BEST part of his memorial. Those words are so true. We are the world. We are the hands that exercise blessings. It takes you and me to make the world a better place. Now and always.
  8. Thanks, but I still prefer Facebook.
  9. Yes, I just use plain white vinegar. It's one of my husband's favorites, so we make it every spring and summer. Lucky for me, I have both cukes and onions growing in the garden. Oh, and once you get the sauce to your liking, DON'T THROW IT OUT!!! Slice up some more cukes and onions, and let it sit in the fridge until next time you want to serve it. The longer it sits, the better it is (within reason, of course. The veggies don't keep forever, but the vinegar preserves them longer than if they sat in the fridge with no dressing.) I'm thinking if you do 2 cukes to one onion, you'd add
  10. I make a cuke and onion salad, though I haven't had theirs. I make mine with fresh sliced cukes, fresh sliced onions, 2 parts vinegar to one part water, and enough sugar to make the sauce sweet. I hope that helps. We went to FB's last weekend. The food was good. But I wish they had a suggestion box. I'd ask that their servers and the cook wear clean clothes before being allowed to interact with customers. Seriously. Ick. And again, our order was wrong. But we'll be back--my husband loves their steaks, and the iced tea is divine.
  11. My husband won't go in my purse either, unless I make him. And I agree--it's weird. He will get my keys if he needs to move my car or something, but NEVER without asking. And I don't care if he goes in there for something I have that he needs. Now on the other hand, if he ever felt the need to rummage through my entire purse contents without my knowledge, it would be WAR. Ohh yeah, it would. And it's not that I have anything to hide at all--that's just a no-no. It would be like me going through his cell phone to see who called him. It's a trust thing, and I trust him, and I know he
  12. You can lead a fool to knowledge but you can't make him think.
  13. Love you, dear Lady, and that rascal Phillip, too!
  14. We have company...my FIL and a friend of his from Wisconsin. It's the friend's b-day, and he wanted brats, so I took them over to Patak earlier today and we got brats, which are now simmering in beer on the stove top. I'll brown them on the grill once they are nicely boiled. I made a huge pasta salad earlier today, and it's chilling in the fridge. For dessert (instead of b-day cake) I'm serving warm cream cheese brownies with Edy's vanilla bean ice cream and chocolate syrup on top.
  15. A stiff mixture of OxyClean and water with a little salt added. Rub it into the stained areas and let sit for several hours before machine washing. No need to put it out in the sun or anything. It works! I even got red wine out of a light blue linen shirt using this mixture. And it won't discolor your fabric.
  16. Then maybe ours was the non-strippable kind--I have no idea. We prepped things properly and I was terribly patient, but it still was a HUGE mess, and the paper pulled small chunks of plaster off. I'm just glad it's gone. It was worth the effort.
  17. A couple of years ago, I removed wallpaper from my small front bath and the kitchen. It was a nightmare. I used the DIFF and the paper tiger, but in the bathroom especially, it still chunked the plaster. We just got it all down, then used a sheet rock spackle stuff to repair the places that were rough. It turned out fine, but it was a lot of work. I will NEVER use any kind of wallpaper on any wall, ever. I hadn't put any of this up either--it came with the house. But it's wonderful now that it's gone.
  18. I don't. And for the record, I don't hate him at all. I just refuse to idolize a freakish pedophile, regardless of how pretty he could sing and dance. Sad news about Walter Cronkite, though. I hope his end is peaceful.
  19. <============ slips out cat-like, apparently unnoticed.
