Tomorrow will be 4 weeks for me and my husband. We just agreed we'd quit, and did it. It's gotten easier, though I still think I want one now and again. It is a hard habit to break. But like others have said, I feel and SMELL much better! It also helped that we quit together. We held each other accountable, and we used humor and shared sympathy in the early days when it was toughest. Congrats to everyone who has quit and is quitting! If we can do it, so can you!

Unfortunately, what I've learned about this company is that, even if the company they claim to represent verifies that the debt isn't yours, they will still dog you, and they will report it to the credit reporting agencies. Thanks. I put a freeze on my credit last night, and will be checking to see if it has hit my reports today. I'm not playing chicken little here. I did quite a bit of research on this company after I received the bogus bill, and without a doubt, sending them a letter demanding they authenticate this debt is absolutely the right thing to do. Thanks. I know it's a risk to respond, but the plain fact is, if you DON'T respond to such a letter in some way within 30 days, you inadvertently acknowledge the debt. I don't think NOT responding is even a choice. I can easily prove I have never had an account of any kind with DirectTV. So by responding, I toss their silly little fraud ball back to them, and the burden of proof is theirs, and not MINE.
