  1. Been having trouble with my almost new front loading washer. Called Pate's about 10am - he was here about 12:30 - out of here by 1:30 - found the problem with my washer (kids weren't emptying pockets and it ALL ended up in the pump) and fixed it. Gave me some advice regarding maintenance of machine and some advice regarding my dryer. I'm am just so amazed and pleased to have found someone that was so responsive and helpful. And, his cost was VERY reasonable. Thanks, Brian!
  2. I ONLY use Atkins Jewlery - they are at 41 and Mars Hill in the shopping center with Michaels and Best Buy. A friend recommended them to use - she has a 3 carat diamond that her husband got in Paris - she only trusts her diamond to them (she lives in Savannah now and still brings it back). I've always been impressed with the service, time to completion, and price. Can't say enough about them.
  3. A thought just struck me when you mentioned having been on benadryl. Are you CERTAIN that he is awake when this happens? Could he being having night terrors- night mare where his brain has shut down the physical movement portion of his brain? (Psycho Mom - please feel free to add to this). The reason I ask is because when youngest was on all his asthma and allergy medicine - he had HORRIBLE night terrors. He was scream, yell, hit his head and bang the wall, wander around the house, scream at the top of his lungs, hit us, etc. etc. It would have, almost to the minute, about 1hour
  4. It's funny - while what you say is typically true - it's so NOT true in my family. I have a yearly physical - internist and gyn. That's it. I'm morbidly obese (had the physical yesterday). Otherwise, the doc says that I'm one of the healthiest fat peerson he's ever seen - no high cholesterol, no high blood pressure, no sugar level issues, a few ortho issues (not completely weight related). Hubby - at 145 lbs - is at the doc multiple times a month, has multiple chronic conditions, costs the insurance company thousands of dollars a month. But, he's the skinny one. So, sometimes, thing
  5. I know some smokers who are very aware of their butts and discard of them correctly. And, then I know people that just will drop and crush and never think twice about picking them up. My belief in these kinds of situations is that you can do whatever the hell you want - until it starts to adversly affect my life. Throwing a cigerette butt on the ground that's going to still be there hundreds of years later really does affect my life and I should get some consideration in it. So, if you want to smoke - go for it - just don't expect me to live with the trash. !
  6. I don't mind it - and not because I don't like smoking. I hate the fact that most smokers, (sorry, making a generalization) can't seem to realize that they don't need to leave evidence of their activities all over the place. So many smokers drop their butts and squash them out, but don't pick them back up. It's gross, it's nasty, and, in reality, it's a fire hazard.
  7. Let me be open out this - and, up front, I don't agree with anybody that thinks that he should be socially promoted. 1. Why did he fail the CRCT? Is test taking an issue for him? Is test stress an issue for him? Does he, honestly, know the material? 2. Why does he hate school? Realistically, if he's immature, he may really hate school be he subconciously is aware of the fact that he is developmentally behind everyone else. He's probably aware of the fact that he's not keeping up maturity wise, he's not keeping up scholastically, and he's rebelling. If I'm even close to being rig
  8. I've gotten into making restaurant dishes at home - was jonesing for Carino's chicken basalmico the other night - found the recipe online and made it - close, not quite, better than driving to the airport. Tonight I made Carino's chicken scallapini - varied the recipe a little because it called for 1 lb of butter in six portions. No way!!!! Very good - happy with it. Again, not quite theirs, but good enough. ! We also had steamed spinach.
  9. Scouting is our big donation. Everyone should remember that scouting benefits the community as well. To make the rank of Eagle Scout, the boys have to do a service project that doesn't benefit scouting. For example, a young man in our unit just completed a very large project at the Animal Shelter. Another young man from another unit built a bridge at White Oak Park. We have a second young man in our unit working on his Eagle that will be collecting up items for the soliders overseas. For Life Scout projects this year, we've had two food drives, we've cleaned up an elderly lady's ya
  10. Mine is $135 year round - makes budgeting a little easier.
  11. How much do you want to have to walk to this spot? The problem is that most spots that are secluded and with no one around you usually means that you have to hike into them. Now, I do like vogel, tanner, unicoi, etc. Any of the state parks have nice facilities. I've always camped in a large group in tents or I've been in cabins. But, I think any of those you can find what you are basically looking for. If you can, pick a spot that is on the ends towards the back of the campsite. I personally really like the KOA in Cherokee, but that may be a bit far for you.
  12. What she said!!!! Both of our's went through this at about this age - he's probably got some anxiety about starting school as well as other things. You're going to have to stand your ground. It will probably only take a few days. But, be strong. If you need to stay on the phone with mom, then do it. He's being manipulative - he knows what he's doing and he knows what he's going to get for it. Be strong, Mom. It'll make him a better adult.
  13. Well, I guess we know that you won't be calling me to watch your kids over night. Nope, I don't offer kids showers at my house. Sorry. That's just my yuck factor. And, I don't necessairly welcome other children at my house for days on end. They have families for that. If we have guests that long, they come with their parents. You have to remember - we don't have family here - we've learned to be very self sufficient. And, the fact is that hubby is a little grumpy and doesn't like loud noisy children around. I would rather my child not be exposed to a potential situation of the
  14. Once a day at most for my kids - about the same for me. If I've had a rough outside day, I might take two. But it takes so long for my hair to dry and I have dry skin - more than one a day is usually just too much. And, just to to be clear, I would NEVER want my kids taking showers at someone else house and would not offer a shower to a child guest at mine. That just brings up a whole lot of possible accusations that I don't want to deal with. If my kids spend the night somewhere - they are ready to go before they get there. I grew up on well water - showers were at a premium.
  15. Roomba = everyday Scooba - three days a week. Cleaning lady - once every two weeks. Laundry - every day The key to my schedule is the cleaning lady every two weeks!!! But, the roombas keep us sane between visits.
  16. I've jumped on the homemade laundry detergent bandwagon. Love the stuff. But, I've made a mistake. I've been using oxyclean in my mixture (1 part to 1 part borax to 1 part washing soda). I cheaped out and bought Sun oxygen cleaner (walmart brand), thinking it was generic oxyclean. It's not. It's causing my front loader to set a suds error code and a blocked drain pipe error code. It's started since I used the mix with the sun oxygen cleaner. So, does anyone without a front loader want this approximately 4lbs of laundry detergent??? It works great - I just can't use it in the fro
  17. Look - I moved here 15 years ago - it wasn't country then. Sorry. Reality - I saw the video of when Paulding was still country and was getting the "4 lane." That was 12 years before I moved here. You can't blame us transplants for that. I, quite frankly, wish it was still country - I grew up in the country. But, the fact is that my little piece isn't going to change anything. The best I can do is to plan for the future when I inherit my parents 23 acres of country and try to keep it that way. So, instead of sticking my head in the sand and denying reality, I would rather face
  18. But, I hate to tell you, this isn't the country. It wasn't the country when I moved here 15 years ago. The country, for most of the county, has been long gone. And, quite frankly, by NOT having some mass transit available, the county is encouraging wide spread growth throughout the country rather than having it more concentrated around the mass transit centers. And, the fact is that you do live around a city (Atlanta) that is of the size and magnitude as LA, DC, Chicago. And, to deny that fact again, is only going to cause a widespread growth throughout your country living rather than
  19. I work at home - 1 minute commute - down the stairs and take a right. Hubby is at 20 mins for 8 miles. When Hiram High opened, his commute doubled in time. I would love to see high speed rail or more commuter based transit available. We came from Washington DC where it's absolutely essential. If I tried to drive to work in DC - it would have taken me a couple of hours (leaving at 4:30 in the morning). But, by train, it was 50 mins that I didn't have to drive - so typically I would go back to sleep. Hubby's communte - even on the train - was 2 hours and 15 mins each way. Hence why w
  20. I'm with you - I say it's the best money we can spend on our marriage. There are no arguments or funny looks when something isn't cleaned up to his standard. Maria comes once every two weeks and it's wonderful. Best money spent.
  21. Your experience with CPAP is common. BiPAP really is better. Good luck and keep us posted.
  22. You should be worried about this. And, you need to take this very seriously. This is a controllable condition. And, the solution is relatively easy. But, you need to realize that this is serious. I have clinical experience in this based upon my job. First question - central or obstructive sleep apnea. If you are overweight, please, please get the weight off. That solves about 3/4 of all cases of sleep apnea. And, that includes me. I know it's not easy. But, it's the reality - the additional pushing towards your head when you sleep at night causes alot of pressure, etc. t
  23. Just a note - cleaning your carpet that much can wear your carpet out alot faster. I don't keep a perfect house. But, I do run the roombas everyday and the scooba a couple days a week. That means that the house has to be picked up completely because the roombas will try to suck anything up. I keep the dishes up, etc. Hubby is much more ocd about the house than I am - hence why we get someone to come in and clean once every couple of weeks.
