  1. Oh, please. No one here ever stated that this was the fault of the victim. They were responding to a question that was asked: It was pointed out that the area may have traditionally been "safe," but the increased affluence in some of the subdivisions has created a climate where certain material items that previously were not there in great numbers, are now there for the taking. None of the items named should ever be left in a car overnight, especially one parked in a driveway. These are basic preventative techniques that big city people have always known, but now country folks need to kn
  2. The AJC ran an article on this maybe six months ago. It discussed several counties, Paulding chief among them, where this had happened. They ultimately faulted the counties who were caught holding the bill for unfinished subdivision road paving, for not knowing enough about this type of bond process, and not requiring more secure resources from developers. The article blamed counties that had little experience in managing the financial repercussions of instant growth--a growing up lesson for small town administrators, as I recall.
  3. That the City of Atlanta has owned 10K acres in Paulding for the past forty years is very widely known, as is comes up regularly on this site and in the local media, whenever expansion for Hartsfield Airport is discussed. Atlanta purchased 10K acres here and in Dawson County back in the mid-1970s, with an eye toward opening a second metro airport. At the time, the land in both counties was inexpensive, and Atlanta considered it a bargain to buy the land and hold it long-term, while it considered several different options. There was a tremendous outcry from the Paulding population (making the c
  4. The cause of this mess is summed up by the plaintiff's own father: "As you know, we love our children with all of our heart and soul and have placed them first in our lives since they were born. Whatever they wanted, they received. If it meant that we went without, then so be it." A case of affluenza. Parents spoiled child and are now reaping the fruits of those labors.
  5. The OP says "nearly all the casual dining places," and the title also says casual dining, but apparently this thread is really only about Mexican restaurants. Am I reading everything correctly?
  6. I thought they were aftershocks to the earthquake.
  7. Ate there last night and asked about this. The Marietta Diner people still own it. The manager said in his Greek accent, "If they sell, you won't see me here anymore!"
  8. Source? I could not find anything on this, including on GEMA website. I did see an article stating that the Governor extended the emergency through Sunday night, but that was for the situation two weeks ago, not this week.
  9. Not for several years now, due to the state budget. This year the state authorized 179 scheduled instructional days. Teachers were given three furlough days from their usual 190-day schedule--one taken from instructional days and the other two from teacher workdays. The last couple of years there were even fewer instructional days (176 the previous year, and as low as 170 the year that teachers had ten furlough days). The bottom line is that it is up to the state--they dictate, through the legislature and state board of education, how many days are required as a minimum, and how much funding i
  10. No one really knows, though many speculate. http://www.ajc.com/news/weather/some-systems-cancelling-school-for-thursday/ndL59/
  11. Mon/Tue/Fri 7:30AM--4:30PM (They are usually open by 7:00) Sat 8:00AM--noon
  12. True, but that is because they were already scheduled to be closed on Thursday and Friday. So they have already announced the Wednesday closing, since it is pretty much a foregone conclusion, anyway.
  13. The AJC Reach is a division of the AJC, and there is a number on the flyer to call for "customer service." If you call, they will take your address and the paper does stop coming--for a while. Every few months the cycle repeats--when they get a new driver, I suppose. If you really call and scream, they give you the number of a "circulation manager," but that's just a scam, too. When you call that guy, you get voicemail, and you leave a message. The delivery stops--again, for a few months. There are numerous websites about this. http://www.stopajcreach.org/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/37
  14. Um, yes, nearly the entire school district emergency management team spent the night at the central office, monitoring the situation, barely getting any sleep for 48 hours. Three have just arrived home within the past two hours. Wow, now you and your minions are not only speculating on people's internal motivations, you are speculating about their activities, too? But you really know nothing about any of it, of course. Um, board members do not manage the school district on a daily basis--that is the function of the superintendent and his staff. And the emergency team members of that s
  15. Collection of ignorant and rude comments here. People assuming that they are privy to information that they did not have, even to the point of thinking that they can read the minds of others, knowing their motivations. They also act is if this county is not a part of the state, or attached to the other counties around it. Give it a rest, already.
  16. Yes, stay out of it and mind your own business. She will be fine. Don't let your emotions get the best of you. It's all over now.
  17. My bookmark brings me right to this site, but like the members above, when I googled it and clicked from the search results, it went to url4short.com.
  18. Three years ago this week was the last time schools were closed. They were closed to students all week due to snow and ice, and staff reported on Thursday/Friday.
  19. I see Carrollton City Schools listed on WSB and 11 Alive websites as being closed, but nothing about Bremen. Their district website also says nothing about being closed.
  20. They famously did NOT close a few years ago, in non-anticipation of floods that DID happen. Not correct. As of this time, Carrollton City Schools are closed, but nothing from Carroll County. Interestingly, Coweta County Schools have already announced that they are closed Monday and Tuesday.
  21. 1979 local question updated for 2014 Why would anyone build a McDonald’s book a conference in Paulding County?
  22. "Greater metro New Hope"? Wow, that area must have really grown...
  23. Even a decent apartment for that amount is going to be difficult. One does not want to live among crackheads.
