  1. I'm glad my daughter gave up her children rather than to see something like that happen to them. I am happy to raise my grandson, and that he has a loving home. I am glad that the others have loving homes too. It is better to forget your pride and vanity then to let a child grow up neglected, abused, and unloved. I know she regrets her decision at times, and hates me for being there when he needed me, but it was still the best, kindest, and most intelligent decision she ever made in her life.
  2. Ok, I just called them-they leave for vacation today, and reopen on the 13th. So, the other person is right-hold off till then!! It was my 1st time there and I didn't know about the vacation. They are a small family owned business-3rd generation-have the owner tell you the story, she told us all about it-nice lady, Shelly!!! Friday is prime rib night-UNBELIEVABLE-hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!!!
  3. I go to the one just over the line too, on the right (north) side-just ask for Ms. Pam (Jeffers) she works there in the summer, and teaches at New Georgia Elem. the rest of the time-she'll hook up up right!! Lots of freebies!!! Tell her Ms Charli-ann sent you
  4. Went out to dinner last night and tried Wallace's Bar-be-cue in Yorkville-now, I'm not big on that type of food usually, but HOLY SMOKED MEAT!!! I was drawn in by the "All You Can Eat" PRIME RIB special (only $18.99 and I think that's a bargain) My "boys" are true carnivores, and I thought they deserved a special treat. Gotta say, it was the 1st time in years that a resturant really impressed me. Everything was great, from the sweet tea to the Texas toast ( I'm going to save room for their dessert next time-PECAN COBBLER-WOW) Ed certainly ate his share, and my grandson ordered the regular meal
  5. I've been a land lady for 10 years now, and I'd never leave anything in my rentals I wanted back-cause you won't get it back! I used to leave things like fireplace equipment, blinds, curtains-they always ruin them. My sugestion would be to have someone you know and trust take care of the place. Even then you might be in for some nasty surprises! I would even sugest maybe a church group using the place while they did local mission work or the like, but I just had a nasty incident with someone renting from my own church! Religion doesn't necessarily make you nice or law abiding!
  6. What a bunch of great ideas! I always wanted to open a coffee shop with a deli, and books and magazines-sort of a place to gather-didn't think there would be much interest here-and really good bagles too! I miss those. Maybe the economic tide will turn, and we'll be able to see some of these things happen-that would be wonderful!
  7. Our prayers are with you. My mother passed from cancer quite a while ago, but she suffered terribly for a couple of years. Seeing her go through that was terrible-she was such a good woman and didn't deserve that. Although the sudden loss was hard on you and your family, she is at rest and out of pain. God bless you all.
  8. WORK, WORK, WORK-I just want to take it easy for a little while! Some bar-be-cuing, fishing, swimming in the pool and lake!! We are going to see the Rome Braves tomorrow-YEEAAH!! I love baseball, and the fireworks should be wonderful. Heck with the house-it can wait!!! Gotta finish some proposals ( need info on Hardi siding and cornice-anyone have info for me?), and a paint and repair job for a Pcommer-then I'm FREE for the weekend. WoooHoo
  9. I lived in Florida whan the kids were young. The pack and play -( upside down) is a great idea. A light weight umbrealla also. I use to take bed pads ( like the hospital has) so they could have their diaper off-helped with the rashes in the heat, and they loved being "nakniee" The fresh air and salt water are great too. Remember, that your baby will sleep like an angel after a day on the beach. If you avoid sunburn by being very, very careful, you will have a terrific time. Remember that the sun is reflected by the water, and will come at you in different directions than just the top. Keep th
  10. what a great opportunity for the both of you!! Wow, just think of the experiences you two could share together, and the memories he would have long after you are gone!!! I couldn't imagine saying no to this.I took my grandson to NY last year-just two weeks, but I'm so glad we did it together! We went to many of the beaches on Long Island ( saw a beached whale-my 1st and of coarse his) had a chance to get together with our whole family (it had been 25 years for me,and he had never met them) The Museum of Natural History-Uptown, Downtown-all the bridges and tunnels (boys love those things) Food
  11. aahh! i may be old, but i'm still a sucker for a guy in uniform (and the ladies too, but just not that WAY-snicker)
  12. grandson is cleaning out the pool and deck-having friends over later, then a sleep over. Then he's going to 6 Flags with one of them tomorrow-Horray, a free day for me. Gotta deliver my bread and cake from Publix to families who need it. An appointment in the evening ( hope we get the job!) I should be cleaning-but oh well! Any one know any struggling families who need some free food? With no back-pack program to supply, there's usually extra. We bring the donuts to the local firemen and police-love seeing all the guys, and they work so hard for us.
  13. I avoid Douglasville if at all possible! The traffic, the people, the store employees, everyone and everything, is mor difficult to deal with there. I have run into the rudest people, have watched gangs of kids trying to break into cars, have been cursed at because the other drivers are at fault-you name it !! I have made a decision to keep my business as local as possible-I shop my local Publix and Kroger, the new garden place on 61 & Ridge, and when other stores are built, I will shop there as well. In the meantime I will go to Hiram for department type stores. I will never shop at Sears
  14. As a contractor, I deal with colors and color choices a lot-definetly look at SW's color chart for craftman homes. My favorite is called "Brown Bag" (don't know if that's SW's name for it- it might be Glidden. I often get a deal from some of the companies to try their new line, and Glidden has come out with some very good exterior products ), and on my own home I accented it with a brown called "Cappacino", but I do love earth tones! The trim is "Navaho white", very creamy but bright. I also painted my deck & porch with the brown, and the top and bottom rails too, but the spindles are the
  15. Write a letter immediately stating that the terms as stated in the contract are null an void due to the condition of the apt-HAVE IT NOTORIZED!!! As far as I know, the 3 day contract commitment is not valid here in GA. Still, move fast, state you objections clearly, deliver the notorized letter, keep a copy, and act with determination so the rental agent knows you mean business! I am a landlord, and I have seen things from that perspective. Given the circumstances, I would not hold someone to the lease, but that's me. If it has to go to court, you will need pic, so ask to see the apt again bef
  16. Where can I get info on making cheese? I am super interested in trying it out, and would love any info you can share.
  17. Don't know if your interested in this or not, but I have a wedding dress-size 8 I think, all packed up in a box after cleaning, etc. Got it for my daughters wedding, but her dad had to one up me and get something better. It's very pretty, traditional with some lace and bead work. I also think I still have some wedding stuff like guest book, cake knife, etc. She got a bunch of that at her shower and didn't need it. Remember, whatever you do for the 1st one, the others will expect-don't go overboard. If you go with Bar-be-cue, I like Daryl's -he cateres and it is the best, and the price is reaso
  18. Thank you for the quick reply-I do know that woman by sight and I wave to her. It's a shame someone did that to her. From the way I've heard the story, she lost her child and never was the same after that. Still, she bothers no one in an outright way. I hope they are caught and thrown in jail.
  19. My family has used Sears for several generations-Grandma, Mom, and I. Several years ago I had a really ugly experience with the Sears store on Barett Pky. It was way over the top, completely unnecessary, and has scarred me in ways I still can't think about-never mind talk about. I have never shopped there again (or any Sears affliate for that matter) None of my friends will shop there either, and I hope that no one else will either. They have become a monster, looking only to cheat and defraud anyone naive enough to deal with them. I hope they go defunct, close down, and lose all their money.
  20. Ok-I have to ask- I know a "Jessie" here, and didn"t realize something happened-so, could you tell me or PM me who it is. Of coarse, whoever it is, my prayers are with them. But, if it's someone i have been corresponding with, I would feel the need for something more-maybe a visit, etc.I'v tried to go back and look at old posts to update me but can't find any.
  21. I've always preferred the type of man who appreciated a woman who was smart, funny, and pretty-the others are looking for a dumb bimbo who's easy to fool-it may be it's all they can get!
  22. I use a Tenz machine for Sciatica-it helps a lot now, but that's after a year of therapy. If I get a flare up-i ned to use it for a few days, along with Tiger balm -rubbed into the muscle.
  23. I also got some chickens-hope they will work on the bugs as well as giving eggs! The other suggestion was for a real problem with bugs ( like my black widow spider infestation, and my scorpions running around the driveway!) I've got a young grandson and he'd found a lot of them around-even in the house-had to get rid of them. don't want to hurt my chickens though, and i follow all directions.
