  1. This came in a newsletter from a beekeeper supply house I use, thought it was a pretyt good write up on Yellow Jackets (not the GA Tech kind). Yellow Jacket Tragedy By Ol’ Drone In early August there was a bee sting fatality reported in Johnstown, New York. A man brush-hogging a field was stung by many “ground bees.” Honeybees don’t nest in the ground, but yellow jackets do. It was learned that he was allergic to bee stings and forgot to bring with him his EpiPen® bee sting kit. Yellow Jackets Everywhere Yellow jacket population increases usually occur in September but sin
  2. I've always heard it called Main. Think I probably heard it called that when I worked at Greystone.
  3. Google/G-mail/Chrome. Here's the benefits I enjoy. With Google Chrome, I can run that software on any machine/device, and login and it keeps my browser bookmarks/settings the same. With gmail, I set it up for IMAP usage, and that syncs my mailbox across multiple devices. No more do I have some mail stored on one machine, some on my phone, etc (which is what happens with POP3). My mailbox looks the same on webmail, iPhone, Android Phone, Mac and PC. The calender works the same way, though I'll be honest I don't use the calender much. But to be honest, switching to IMAP over POP3 (which is t
  4. Now I know where they are headed to lol. I've seen them fly out towards that direction, but had no idea what they were "working" at this time of year, when really nothing is blooming at all. If you want something to grow well, produce lots of flowers/fruit from extra pollination, just plant something - they will be happy to assist. Usually they have to wait till late Sept/Oct when the goldenrod kicks in, then they work that empty s/d near us that is full of it in the empty lots.
  5. Wife and I have tickets to Dead Can Dance on Wednesday, so we will make a nice day of it together since we are on vacation for the whole week. I think we may take a day trip up to the Foxfire museum one day when its quiet. I do have to pull honey from the beehives, but that depends on how they are doing. Rest of the time, we will be playing Guild Wars 2 (video game) that just came out.
  6. Sad to see it go, but I thought it pretty much went out when 96 Rock went away. I had moved back here from Chicago few years back, and soon as I got in range I put it on 96.1, and realized it had changed. When I was up in the Chicago area, there were several rock station, a Jack FM (like shuffle on a huge song library), etc. I realized how much our stations here just flat out suck. What I really hate are the morning shows - I'm with the person who said they weren't funny, sit around laughing at one another, etc. And yeah Gipper, I remember Power 99. 96 Rock was my refuge from that stuff wh
  7. If any of the South Cobb folks had Faye Johnson (little short lady) as a teacher, she's my aunt.
  8. http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/23/showbiz/ll-cool-j-burgar/index.html?hpt=en_c1 Jonathan Kirby, 56, suffered a broken nose, jaw and ribs when he encountered the muscular rapper-actor inside his Sherman Oaks, California, home, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons. Nice to see him do a "mama said knock you out" on a bad guy.
  9. Maybe Patti Loveless can get in touch with him, but she lives out in the woods near Sheffield WMA. I used to go to church with a fellow who lived up the street from her, and every now and then we'd see her drive by when at his house.
  10. I work in the trade show industry, and you'd be amazed at how many "opposing view" shows get booked next door or near one another. Craziest I've seen was a fetish convention ending right as a conservative Christian denomination convention was starting. Made for some interesting interactions at the check out desk at a few hotels. Most places do try to avoid that, but occasionally they overlap or folks come to town a bit early, not knowing that they hotel they are checking into is currently hosting something rather eye-opening to them. Will be an interesting time down there, with all that is goi
  11. Wow, that's right before you get to my parents house on Mill Creek!
  12. Just be aware the hotels down there are full. You have Chick-Fil-A FanFest/College Football, DragonCon, Black Man Gay Pride Festival, Braves Game, people staying in town from International Woodworking Fair. Several big events at one time have all the hotels booked full, I've heard that folks are even staying in Cartersville due to all the events that weekend.
  13. First place I lived was in Dallas off Ridge Rd (when half of it was gravel) when I moved out of my folks house in Lithia Springs. Lived in Acworth, back to Dallas, Carrollton, Austell. Then I moved for work to Indiana working in Chicago, then back here and bought our home in Dallas. Personally I'd love to sell and get more land with less house, as my wife and I are both unable to have kids (something we did not know at the time). Favorite place of all is still Carrollton, plenty of cool little places due to it being a college town, but rural enough to roll up the streets at dark. Still have pl
  14. Had quite a few of my own relatives fight in the Civil War. GGGG-Grandfather was killed at Vicksburg. I found one of my gggg grandmothers (however many greats in there) had a widows pension where her 1st husband was killed in the war. Had no idea that she was a widow when she came into my family. Of the ones that fought in my own family, about 3/4 of them were killed or died from disease.
  15. I do wish the school luck, but I sure don't buy half the claims they say. My grandfather, father and brother are all welders. Both grandfather and dad own (or owned) their own successful welding business, and the jobs out there now for welders are pretty much non-existent, and those that are don't pay anywhere near that rate. I gave my dad a call and as I ready the article to him, he wanted to know where he could sign up for $22/hr working for someone else. My dad fields several calls a day of out of work welders, looking for work. That type of work is hard, and it takes its toll on the bo
  16. Autocad is now available for the Mac.
  17. According to their website (http://www.westmetromarket.com/Meats.html) it is grain fed Black Angus from Black Canyon Cattle Company. GA Dawg, where did you get your 1/2 from ? That's a pretty good price there. One other thing, if you call a processor/butcher, they can likely give you names of folks who raise cattle that might be willing to sell you a side/portion. The one we went to in Calhoun also had sausage for $2.50/lb, along with other good (and cheap) pork cuts. You can ask if they have other meats in stock too. They had frog legs, rabbit, some fish, etc. It was very reasonably
  18. I haven't bought supermarket beef in several years. Wife and I get 1/4 split of beef locally and pick ours up at the processor when they are done. Past few years a fellow at her work raised cattle, this year we went with Ford Farm in Cohutta. I know Spreading Oaks (at the Dallas Farmers Market) will have some ready in October, Berry College has a Jersey Beef program, think there's one out in Carrollton as well. Any of these, I feel, are a better choice than any supermarket beef. A local butcher (like West Metro) is the next best thing if you don't want to buy a whole/part of a cow, we just pre
  19. Arby's was the first "real" job I had when I was 15. The bit about the meat being that bag of goo that is cooked for several hours is spot on. I remember dropping some bread on the floor and being told to pick it up and serve it by the owner himself. Old broccoli (almost brown) was served on the potatoes by covering it up with the cheese sauce so it couldn't be seen. I worked in a few fast food joints when I was a teenager, but Arby's was the nastiest of the ones I worked at.
  20. I've been buying 1/4-1/2 a side of a cow from local grass-fed beef producers. Not only is it cheaper, the quality/taste is much better than anything from the grocery store. Plus all the meat is from one cow raised/butchered locally, not from multiple sources raised in who knows what sort of conditions. If you have the freezer space, its an option to consider.
  21. Maxalt is what I use as well. Imitrex didn't cut it for me, as the effectiveness would kinda peak then drop off quickly.
  22. Barometric pressure sets mine off a good bit, usually when storms move in or its going to rain. Once it rains I'm usually ok, but if the system hangs around for a while, not raining but just stalled - it gives me terrible migraines.
  23. I had one generation of my family intermarry with the tribe, right before the Trail of Tears events took place. The women who married Cherokee men (and their descendants) are buried out in Oklahoma, while my direct ancestor and his Cherokee wife stayed here (since being white he could own property) and they are buried up in a little cemetery between Talking Rock and Ellijay.
  24. I've used Dr. Tullman in Lithia Springs for many years, he's very good. Was voted best Eye Doctor by a poll in the Douglas Sentinel.
