I hybernated all winter, except work. One year the wind chill was 10-15 below, and my heat died in my car. It took me 30 minutes to get to work, and by the time I got there, I swear my hands were almost frost bitten. My heat wasnt working for 2 weeks!! The last winter I lived there, I got stuck in a snowbank in my driveway, and sent the kids inside...only to find out the snow had drifted halfway up the door. They started shoveling so they could get inside, while I was trying to get my car out. It was halfway in the road. Yep, I love Georgia! I cant imagine living in International Fal

I know!! I have tried to picture what your gardens look like!!

Exactly. Nothing grows, nothing lives...theres just no point in it!!! I dont NEED the pool, I just figured I'd throw that request out there!! I'm one Yankee that you will never have to tell that the interstates lead North!!

I would rather cut my air with a knife, than shovel snow!!! I love Georgia, and hate snow!!! If I had palm trees and an in-ground pool I would be in heaven!!! Oh, and a few acres of wooded land around my house.

Ray Cochran arrested for child molestation
MaineGal replied to gpatt0n's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Folks should NOT be more patient. Folks should get involved and be 100% certain that a child is NOT being harmed. If I was being harmed, I wouldnt want folks to be patient, and give it some time before anyone spoke up for me. I'm done here. I'm feeling very sick all of a sudden. -
Ray Cochran arrested for child molestation

Did it "alledgedly" happen 2 years ago, and concerned adults are just now finding out from the child?? Maybe the child should have waited until the election was over?? I dont care if its an election or not, that has nothing to do with it. I dont care the reasoning for people speaking about it, as long as they did. Everyone in the "know" should have been trying to talk and resolve it as soon as possible for the sake of the child. Not for the sake of the reputation, or the sake of the election, or anything else. The child is no longer the liar first....that is old school. -
Ray Cochran arrested for child molestation

Giving years to youth at church and having grandchildren means nothing to me. Not to sound harsh, but that does not mean you're not a bad person. Things like this happen everyday. I know that during an investigation, people are told not to speak publicly. I am talking about speaking to authorities and how "SOME" family members commented to authorities. Why not "ALL" family members? Your comments are the exact reason so many people get away with it for so long. "He couldnt do that, he goes to church" "It must have been a misunderstanding on the childs part". Either way, the child comes fir -

I agree, if I was her, I wouldnt have announced it in my campaign, I would have dropped out and dealt with this with my family. But, my concerns are with the child. I couldnt care less what pain any family is going through, IF they knew about it and did nothing. Kudos to the part of the family that "made comments to the investigators". Set the election aside, and this is a pure and despicable act, and any adult not wanting to go to hell, would have done anything possible to give this child justice as soon as possible. It would make me sick to find out she put the investigation on hold and -

There's a bad one in every crowd. I was sad to hear the outcome of the standoff, but it could have been a disgruntled employee from any line of work.

Teacher's Assignment to HS Students: Plan a Deadly Terror Attack
MaineGal replied to markdavd's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Exactly. I think any knowledge is good. In order to know what terrorists are doing, you need to learn about it. Theres nothing like diving in head first. I'm pretty confident that I am NOT raising terrorists, and that they are good, caring, children. Especially at the high school level. These kids are only a couple of years from going into the real world...they need to know about it. Learning something from the "other" perspective is usually a good thing. -
I wish I hired a translator when I moved here from the North!!! I couldnt figure out for the life of me why someone would wear a "toboggan", and I also had no clue why people thought I was crazy when I said I purchased the kids some "sneakers". I can see why a translator would be needed for slang words, in immediate situations like wire taps. As far as accents go, the more you hear them, the better you get at understanding them.

Any interest in a P.com book club or review thread
MaineGal replied to shopthebookworm's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I would be willing, but I take so long to finish a book. I will read like crazy for a while, then I will put it down for a week when "life" gets busy. It took me 5 months to read Stephen King's Under the Dome. Granted it was a long book, but I loved it!! I guess what I'm saying is I wouldnt be a reliable source of input!!! -

I wish they could just get cash donations. I would rather donate $10 than buy $40 worth of junk.

So, does every room need a box now? We have 2 rooms with the box, and two without. The ones with no box, didnt work this morning. I didnt notice anything different about the ones with the box.

Thats pretty cheap for a large family! Especially trying to feed them healthy. -

You are not alone!!! I dont pack lunches anymore, but I send a snack. When they are home, I swear they have breakfast twice, lunch 3 times, and supper once or twice!!! I thought about buying stock in Kroger!! -
Agreed, they dont deserve to care for these children, they arent capable. But, dont you understand that there are adults with mental disabilites? There is no pre-screening done in order to birth a baby.
-
I agree with you. Mental illness isnt a choice, and it does happen. There ARE circumstances where parents knowingly treat their kids bad, but in many of these instances, they treat themselves very well. I dont think anyone in this house was living in an ideal situation. Keep in mind, grown adults with the brain capacity of a 12 year old can still bare children.

Death is expensive. There was a Mom not too long ago that was raising funds just so she could have her son's service. I dont think this should discriminate based on money. Maybe allowed for a certain amount of time, then have to be removed. Same goes for yard sale signs. I saw an officer removing some of those a couple weeks ago, who pays for that? Maybe they need to go to those houses (the address is usually on the sign), and write them a ticket. I see many more yard sale signs than I do memorials. I'm not trying to disregard your thoughts, but I'm usually not a fan of more costs to th

I dont have a problem with it, and the only problem I see is the property issue. Did the nation want a memorial at the spot of the World Trade Center? If my child died, would it be any less tragic to me? No. Given all the memorials that are put up, such as the site of plane crashes, civil war battlefields, etc...I would hardly consider a memorial where someone passed away as being morbid. I probably wouldnt put one up on the side of the road, but make something nice in my own backyard for myself.

I'm going to start by saying that I havnt read the article. If it is mental illness, they probably did feed themeselves, and their children...because that is human nature. Obviously, no healthy food. Otherwise, they lived like apes from what I gather. Actually, worse. Dont apes at least pick the bugs off of each other? This saddens me. I'm sure it happens more often than any of us would like to think. You know, it doesnt cost much to be clean. I would shave heads and throw everything away before I would allow my family to be covered in bugs...if I couldnt afford medicine to get ri
