  1. Hubby went to his doctors and not any chosen by the SSA. Not just having files showing your disability, but having radiographic evidence is even better. An MRI, CT scan, xrays are all GREAT proof of disability such as the OP was asking about. For mental disorders (and don't discount them ALONG with a physical disability), a definitive diagnosis is necessary. I'll see if I can find the link to the info showing what conditions constitute disability per the Social Security Administration. If you have the evidence needed--an MRI, CT scan, etc--file WITHOUT an attorney first. No
  2. Here's a link for more information: http://www.ada.gov/ This specifically mentions medical examinations: After a person starts work, a medical examination or inquiry of an employee must be job-related and consistent with business necessity. Employers may conduct employee medical examinations where there is evidence of a job performance or safety problem, examinations required by other Federal laws, examinations to determine current oefitnessî to perform a particular job, and voluntary examinations that are part of employee health programs.
  3. And good luck on proving that. The employer will likely give a hundred other reasons. Just like an employer won't reveal that the true reason they didn't hire you is because you're over 50. ADA, the best I understand it, only means an employer must make *reasonable* accommodations for you, not that they go above and beyond. For instance, if you're on pain meds, it would be an unreasonable accommodation for them to waive drug testing just for you. BTDT. We were so thankful that one of hubby's customers WAS willing to waive drug testing for him to continue working in their facili
  4. One is not required for filing Social Security disability.
  5. You can buy one to one of the Cobb Aquatic centers. Here's a link to the site: http://prca.cobbcountyga.gov/aquatic.htm There are several indoor pools that might be close to you, as well as the pool on Brownsville Rd in Powder Springs.
  6. Doesn't matter a bit what you call it. It's still SOUTHWEST Cobb. And yes, I live in southwest Cobb, too.
  7. I cannot imagine losing your child. Hugs to you!!! My youngest was born in 1980 as well.
  8. We have ours with Nationwide, through the agent on Wendy Bagwell Pkwy, in the same general area as the new Aldi. PM me and I'll give his contact info. He's not a commerce member, so I'm not going to post it publicly.
  9. I COMPLETELY agree with you. Just because you live in a mobile home community does not make you any less of a person than one who lives in a gated community in "Vinings", Mableton, Austell or Smyrna. I, too, love my mixed grandchildren and would stand up for them in any way I could. My oldest mixed granddaughter is one of the most beautiful people, inside and out, that I have ever met. I also have family who live in mobile homes. My husband had never lived in anything other than a mobile home until he was 25 years old. He is one of the finest men I have EVER had the privilege o
  10. Yup. One would be stupid not to be more cautious when going into a business (or an area of town) where they know a crime has taken place. It's generally not a one-time deal. I don't go around the store looking for and confronting shoplifters because the store has security. However, if I see someone who looks suspicious, REGARDLESS of where it is, I do say something. I would hope that if something looked suspicious at my house, one of my neighbors would say something as well, up to and including detaining the suspicious person until either I could be contacted or LE could arrive.
  11. Obscenity definitions vary from community to community and even person to person. I seriously doubt what one group of people call EACH OTHER could be considered obscene. I may not agree with what one says, but I firmly, STRONGLY, completely believe that they have the right to say it. I may be offended even but that does not negate their right to say what they believe. If we take away the right of free speech, we will be nothing more than an enslaved people. I don't know about you, or anyone else on Pcom, but I have had many family members through the years who have fought for t
  12. We live in a subdivision and last fall we looked across the street and saw two deer in the yard between two houses. We have also seen coyotes, possums, raccoons, foxes, hawks, eagles and years ago had a bobcat in the neighborhood. We have also had deer in our yard, both front and back yards. That's really cool, isn't is? I love to see wildlife out my window.
  13. We have gone over to talk to people who don't look like they belong on our street. I'm not talking about them being black and us white either. I'm talking "strangers" to the area. Doesn't matter the color. We had three empty houses on our street of 18 houses. More than once, we would go up and ask someone why they were there. I think that's what people who CARE about what happens in their neighborhood do. If and when the story doesn't ring true, then the police are called. We were out in our backyard one day last summer. We had not noticed our next door neighbor being at home so it
  14. If you'll read in post #15 it says they (assuming the people with the firearms) called the police. But still, it would have been difficult for the people being held at gunpoint to have called the police. I happen to agree with whoever said if a high-powered attorney hadn't been hired, it would not have garnered attention.
  15. Kinda hard to call the police when you're being held hostage.
  16. I actually had a telemarketer hang up on ME the other day when I told him to put our number on their do-not-call list. I used to keep a whistle by the phone because I had an obscene caller. Finally one day I thought enough in advance to get that in my hand before I picked up the phone. Never AGAIN had that caller.
  17. My daughter lives in downtown Austell. Literally, downtown. Without a car, they HAVE to walk wherever they go. There is no longer bus service to downtown Austell thanks to the county taking out the ONE route that served downtown. Fortunately, there are stores and a park and even a library within a reasonable walking distance from them. There are a few businesses as well. My daughter has said many times that since they live between the two train tracks, it is often quicker for them to walk places than it is to drive. If a train is on the track in front of their house but not the one
  18. Well, it seems that I have finally found a way to get at least SOME of these free online business listings removed. They have really seemed to respond well to threats of legal action against them for violating their own privacy policies. And I would happily sue every last one of them, too. Yep, I read their privacy policies and saw that they stated if any personally identifiable information was contained in the listing, such as address or phone number, you could request the listing be removed. Well, our address AND phone number are listed on every one of them. Now, I just
  19. Hubby must have. He was outside and looked up. I heard them. Sounded like they were getting it!
  20. My mom refused to go to the senior center because she didn't want to be around "old folks". Having the knowledge that my next door neighbor met his lady friend at the senior center, in dance class no less, makes me feel like the people who go to the senior centers are far from "old folks". You might want to suggest to your mom that she go to one. They have LOTS of activities!
  21. It's not unusual for antidepressants to stop working or to stop working as well, requiring either a higher dose or another antidepressant. BTDT. Counseling might help and couldn't hurt.
  22. I think there are ordinances requiring sidewalks in all newer subdivisions. I know the one at the end of my street has sidewalks, while our end of the street which is a separate, older subdivision, does not.
