Are the unemployed lazy or are employers too cheap?
Mama Carol replied to gpatt0n's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Hubby's former boss went to China a few years ago in an effort to drum up business for his company. The business he received enabled him to buy something like 14 acres and a huge building near Six Flags. He doubled the work force, employing Georgians. ALL government hinders small business, not just Georgia government. ALL government. I know of a particular business that has been trying for a couple of years to open in Paulding and all the government officials seem to want to do is stall it. -

Small business is hindered by governmental regulation, something large corporations generally don't worry too much about. When hubby and I had a small machine shop, large corporations were our best customers! They certainly didn't hinder us in any way, shape, form or fashion. I find that to be true for most small businesses. There will always be customers who would rather deal with small businesses and there will always be large corporations that won't miss the income those customers might have brought in. I seriously doubt KMPG or Pricewaterhouse Coopers misses the income that mi -
It's still there. It's under "classifieds". Good luck!

My hubby and I agree with you wholeheartedly on this. He was a machinist. He had a talent for it. He could take a piece of steel and make anything out of it. Literally, anything. With or without a blueprint to go by. He could measure within a half a hair. Heck, I can't even SEE within half a hair. Me, OTOH, can spell just about anything (OK, sometimes I have to think about it). Spelling came easy to me. We both have our talents and we compliment each other rather well. As for music, neither of us can carry a tune in a bucket and can barely play the radio. Our daughter plays se -

Often the supervisors ARE kids. Just because you have a degree from a college does not mean you have the skills necessary to supervise others. -
Actually, I saw a pay phone the other day. They are provided by the fee added to landlines, not cell phones. I have considered reporting the one who lives in the huge house but it's a sticky situation and I have to weigh my options about it. As for the other--the one who gets disability and drives an 18 wheeler--that's for my daughter to handle.

He should report this employer to the DOL. Or just sit back with a satisfied grin when they get busted. The same thing has happened to my SIL. He will be told one thing during the interview and then something else on the first day and then generally even something else after the first paycheck. I, too, have been told different things during a phone interview and a face to face interview. I even compared notes with another person who interviewed the same place I did last summer and she was told something different than I was! Thank you ZC. I, too, feel the same way. -

Sometimes you just have to let people know you're looking for a job and one will magically appear. Right, Deewee? It's happened to BOTH of us. -
That would have included my daughter and SIL when he did have a job. Bad thing is they still qualified for food stamps with him working full time. And yes, they still had the free phone. If they hadn't had the free phone, they wouldn't have been able to afford one. They often don't have a car because they can't afford it. Even with him working full time. I gotta give him credit for one thing--he still got to work on time even if it meant hoofing it up 278 to work in the rain and cold.

That might work! I revised mine by omitting earlier experience that was irrelevant to the jobs I was applying for, added my self employment job and started getting interviews again. Interesting that I can't get a job doing what I did for 15 years and what I'm doing now in my own business. But I can get clients. -

That's possible but if the employer paid a decent pay in the first place, they wouldn't have to worry about someone leaving for a higher paying job later. -

It doesn't surprise me that the unqualified are the ones getting the jobs. The pay is so low, employers figure (and maybe rightfully so), that an experienced person would soon find something else and leave. I can't imagine having to pay for childcare on minimum wage! My daughter and son in law are in the situation where if they both work, they will need childcare. If one of them stays home, they won't. Neither of them can find a job right now and both have been trying. My main benefit right now being my own boss is the wonderful people I do work for. My clients may be few -
And they both would qualify on the basis of income.

I've been unemployed since November 2009. Granted, I had been with my previous employer a l-o-n-g time and he was very generous with me, both as far as pay and flexibility went. However, I have interviewed for several positions IDENTICAL to the one I had and can't get hired. I'm "over qualified" which means I'm over 40. Or ironically, I'm told I'm NOT qualified enough. Huh? Do something for 15 years but yet you're not qualified enough to get a job doing that when that job only requires a minimum of 2 years experience? Come on, people! I started looking for a job actually before I -
Should we decide to sell the house, the FIRST one we will consult will be a real estate attorney. The second one will be our accountant. This from Realty Times really explains what we're wanting to do: An installment sale is not risk free. If your buyer cannot make the monthly payments, you may have to foreclose on the property. And if your borrower files for bankruptcy relief, you may have to wait some time before you can foreclose, even though you are a secured creditor which means that you have certain priorities in the bankruptcy court. However, as I said earlier, this is a m

Here's a link that explains who exactly pays for the phones. The answer might surprise you (unless you've read previous posts). http://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/faq/who-pays-for-free-cell-phones Everyone who owns a telephone pays. A few cents is tacked on to every phone bill every month. It’s listed on those bills as the Universal Service Fund.

250 free minutes and most, if not all, include texting. Most, if not all, also have the option of you paying for options such as data and extra minutes. Interesting enough, when hubby and I had AT&T with unlimited minutes, we rarely used 250 minutes a month COMBINED.

I was shocked yesterday at the areas that I actually had cell coverage. Out in the middle of dang nowhere I had 5 bars but here at home I don't have any as a general rule.

From my research, it appears that we may have a way to structure it so that we retain title until he pays off the mortgage to us. We would possibly have to call the loan due and foreclose if he couldn't make the payments. But we would not lose the house if HE filed for bankruptcy. That would also protect him in case he did file bankruptcy or lost his other house.

As my daughter said the other day, right there in the DFCS office with it crowded "all this poverty is not as glamorous as it sounds".

Good Lord!! A couple of them sound like cats caught in fan belts. Now that my hubby moved the living room around, the TV is right THERE.

Here's a link explaining the Fair Tax and the "prebate". http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_faq_answers I actually think the prebate is a horrible idea and really the only bad point, IMO, about the fair tax at all. I grew up in the 60s and 70s. My dad was a Merchant Marine in World War II and both he and my mom were grown or nearly grown when the Great Depression hit. And I loved sitting around with my paternal grandmother, listening to her talk about how things when she was young. Considering she was nearly 70 when I was born, she was young back in the late 1890s

I would think you can dictate what happens to the house if the buyer doesn't pay you. It all may be a moot point since we haven't gotten US another house lined up yet.
