I'm sure cost has a lot to do with the size of the unit(s), brand, etc. The larger unit for our main level is almost 5 ft high. I was shocked when I saw it and am still looking for something to hide the behemoths. Ours was close to $7k and worth every penny (actually $5500 after federal rebate). The units that were in this house when we bought it were the smallest the builder could get away with. We now have the biggest size our house could handle. I feel bad for our neighbors when I hear their units running non stop all day long.
