  1. The one in Dillsboro, NC -- near Cherokee is better, but farther away. I haven't done the one in Blue Ridge, but looked into it and it doesn't get very good reviews on trip advisor, unless something has changed in the last year
  2. We don't have enough prisons to hold all of the kids that fit into this category. The sad thing is that it is not shockingly unusual behavior for middle schoolers today.
  3. Unless you try to pick it up or mess with it (and I don't think you will) it is not going after you as they are not aggressive. The bite will hurt only as an animal bite and it is not poisonous. They do eat rodents and ESPECIALLY other snakes including poisonous snakes. Even poisonous snakes are not usually aggressive unless cornered or threatened. Please do!
  4. CAYA Ministries in Dallas, supported by several churches and christian groups, may have names of people in need of that type of help. I don't have a phone number but I can msg you a link if you're interested. They've been making and delivering lunches to needy children and have come across some older people who need some help. Helping Hands in Dallas and/or the Senior Citizen Center may also know of some folks.
  5. Rather than kill it, see if anyone wants to relocate it to their property. I don't have a big enough space here. Those are handy snakes to have around whether or not you like them.
  6. It is in the PCHS school district...
  7. I know I'm one with a steady job, and am not complaining, just stating facts. The school system is the county's single biggest employer and most teachers live and spend money IN the county. We are still getting furloughed and having other cuts which affect our take-home pay. The result is that teachers have lost hundreds of dollars of pay each month. Some are able to still pay the bills, and some are not. Either way, when the budget falls by that much money, belts tighten and less gets spent. There is a ripple effect. We also see it with our students. Class sizes have grown and a
  8. There is a van, but it was very limited a few years ago. I'm not sure if budget cuts have further limited it since.
  9. From what I've seen, maybe I'm wrong??, north part of the county isn't much lower and there's not much for sale. South part of the county has A LOT more for sale and much lower prices.
  10. Umm no but here's a map of the gator's range. They are closer to Macon than I thought. http://askville.amazon.com/north-alligators-live/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=40012330
  11. Yes there are gators in South GA. I don't think they usually get as far north as Macon.
  12. Your post made me laugh. I've seen people get their drawers in a wad over a lot of crazy things on P.Com, but getting angry over people wanting a dog park? Really? It might have been less funny if you had just stated that now may not be the time to spend tax-payer money on things such as dog-parks. You made me laugh twice... . I can totally get behind using the airport as a dog park.
  13. Those report cards are so confusing and letters may mean different things at different levels. I think the P is probably for "promoted" or passed to the next grade. There's a place for a P or F on ours. The CRCT score is below expectations, but should not prevent him from going to the next grade on its own. If he was in danger of being held back, you would know by now.
  14. My dogs hear the sirens and wake me up.
  15. I dropped cable and my radar is not loading. Is the siren for a tornado watch or just severe tstorm??? I wish they would go back to sirens just for tornado warnings.
  16. This situation is not directly applicable to GA and I have a few reservations with some of the comparisons from the video. I am a teacher, but I am also a very conservative tax payer who does not want our tax dollars wasted. - This is Wisconsin and not GA. Wisconsin has teacher unions and GA does not. Ask any teacher who has moved states from union to non-union and they see a huge difference. I'm not saying this as a complaint, but just as a reminder that things are not always the same here in GA as in other states. My friend who moved from Illinois to GA comes from a family of man
  17. From what I have gathered, the subject that is failed most often is the Social Studies portion. The way classes are organized now, the World Geography class is an elective and not required. Some geography is taught in the World History class, but is not a major focus. In fact, I know from experience, that Social Studies is red-headed step-child of education in GA. Math, Reading, and now Science all count toward AYP. With the focus on job readiness, many elective classes are also a focus, but Social Studies does not count at the elementary and middle school level toward AYP. Social Studie
  18. Just curious...did she take the World Geography Class that is not required? We always told the 8th graders to take it in H.S., even though not required, because they are tested over the information and it is usually the SS test section that students fail. My niece is in HS in Paulding, my sister asked about her taking this class, and the counselor strongly discouraged my niece from taking it because it is not required.
  19. About 15 years ago I experienced baseball to softball size hail in old DFW. Luckily, I was home and my car was the only thing that felt it. Then, a few years later hid out in the parking deck of a mall while a tornado tore up downtown Ft Worth, to the point they even had to condemn one skyscraper. Praying everyone is ok in the after-math of this one.
  20. I'm heating up some over-processed out of the freezer pasta dish right now
  21. I can eat out every now and then with friends, but I buy less at the grocery store when I do. I also do not plan any vacations for Spring Break and/or this summer. Maybe I will get to go fall break when I can catch unbelievable deals. I have been wanting to buy a new car, but I've put it off for several years, hoping that next year will be better...but it won't...see my previous post. I also have refrained from buying many of the new gadgets other people enjoy. I have a family member who's family chooses to rarely eat out, but puts that money into other things. It is about choices,
  22. I hope you're right but, for employees of the Paulding County School district, its not looking up. I'm not sure how it will shake out for everyone but right now it seems some of us will have at least 10 and as many as 12 furlough days next year. At best it will equal the most we've had, but at worst we will surpass our previously held record of 10. The employer contribution for insurance is also being cut, so the average employee will lose quite a bit of pay each month. The school system is the county's largest employer, so I don't think that economic upturn has reached our area just yet.
  23. I have nothing else to say about this topic right now, I'm just seeing if I can get it to a 5th page
  24. I do a little bit, but nothing too strange. I will go to sleep on the couch and wake up in the bed or vice/versa, wake up standing in the bathroom, etc. The troublesome part is when I get up and turn the alarm off and never wake up. I have three alarms set, all on the other side of the room with obstacles in the middle or in a different room, and a few minutes apart.
  25. And setting that example for your kids is exactly why they have had problems with discipline in school and run-ins with the law
