  1. They usually get a list of places that they can do the community service at. The son of a friend of mine did his at Chattahoochee Tech. He had to do janitorial work.
  2. I apologize, these are not necessarily things that have been talked about (except what constitutes an "independent contractor"), just my thoughts. But making people pay taxes by using W2's instead of 1099's might would insure that at least people are paying something. Immigrants have a tendency of being 1099'd, then they never file taxes therefore never paying into the system. 1099's are being abused; they were meant to be for those that truly do contract work, not as a way to get paid and never pay taxes. In one of the links that was given to me regarding illegals getting insurance with this
  3. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but the E-Verify system is down due to the government shut down and they may refer to that to verify someone's social security number or status.
  4. I am all for helping those people who are truly indigent; but believe me, a large number of the illegals make more money than we do, they have nicer cars (not the ones they work in), they travel extensively, basically do things that we don't have the money to do. I don't know how Northside Hospital is still in business, because that's where they all go to have their anchor babies. I am truly concerned about our government revamping our Medicaid system, getting rid of 1099's making everyone W2 (and on your W4 you have to prove the dependents that you are claiming so that you are truly paying ta
  5. To be honest, I have not really been following this topic; so pardon my question as it may have already been answered. What happens when someone (like some of the Hispanics that I used to work with), show up at the hospital pregnant still with no insurance and no intention of ever paying for the birth of the child? Are hospitals going to turn away people if they have no insurance? So many of these people have no drivers licenses, insurance (car or medical), or file income taxes; so how will they be stopped from continuing to be a drain on our healthcare system?
  6. I think that it is extremely important for these jobs to exist at a minimum wage. The kids today do not understand what it means to work hard to get to the next level because they are given so much for nothing. They have already learned in school that they don't have to keep up with their studies because they will be given the chance to just make it up at the end of the semester. I completely agree with one of the posters that stated that these jobs are not supposed to be careers but a starting point. As far as standing on your feet for eight hours, waa waa waa! I worked at Six Flags for LESS
  7. In this new environment of purchasing a home, you may not have a choice as to what type of loan you get. The rules have changed a lot since we purchased our home. We did refinance about a year ago and we were able to roll in the closing costs. I don't know if the type of home plays a part in the loan (i.e., new, used, foreclosed, HUD, etc.).
  8. In the past that would be true. With the decline in home values, there are not many people that actually have equity anymore. We were hoping that we would have some that we could take out to do some upgrades, but our house appraised for $1,000 less than what we owed on it. Our payment actually stayed the same, we just decreased the years owed. We used a company out of Cartersville and I believe it is called 1st Georgia Mortgage and it was immediately given to Everhome Mortgage.
  9. We actually used the HARP program back last year. It does take a little while to get through the process, but we went from owing 23 more years on our house to owing 15; and, went from a 5.75% rate to 3.15%. It worked for us and we are glad that we did it.
  10. ROLL TIDE!!! Boys looked great last night. It is a beautiful thing when a team is firing on all cylinders. You make me proud to say I am a die hard Bama fan!
  11. I used to rent my books from Chegg. It seemed to save me a lot of money.
  12. They had some at Adventure Outdoors yesterday.
  13. Dropped our home phone about 2 years ago. It has been great because the only people that ever called me were salespeople or collections people looking for individuals that like to list our phone number as theirs.
  14. We did not do a modification, but we did refinance using the HARP program. It was a long process, but worth it in the end. Our payment went up a little bit, but we did go from owing 23 more years on our mortgage to only owing 15 years. We also went from a 5.75% interest rate to 3.125% rate.
  15. As part of Madison's family, I want to pass along my deep appreciation to this young man. Madison is a wonderful young lady that works very hard for her money and she was absolutely ecstatic when this young man turned in her bag. This definitely restores our faith in the fact that there are still some good, honest people in this crazy world! Thanks to Nathan and his parents for raising such a wonderful young man!!!!
  16. I don't know what you are going through, but prayers being sent your way!
  17. Many times with the newer models, it is just better or more cost efficient to purchase a new one.
  18. There are several individuals on this board that suffer from this disorder!
  19. Barnes in Carrollton does it also.
  20. I find your constant bashing of southern people to be quite offensive! I was born in Georgia and I am an intelligent, self-sufficient, hard working woman, that has never asked for a handout from anyone (including the government). If you detest southern people so much, please note that I-20 runs west and I-75 will take you up north to live amongst those that you think are more intelligent. Whether you were born in the south or not does not matter to me, but your constant uncensored drivel has, in my opinion, gone far enough!
  21. The only things that I think that area needs are turn lanes and turn lights. That intersection backs up for 2 or 3 miles in the afternoon.
  22. My employer had said last month that if Obama won, he would be putting the brakes on everything (hiring, raises, etc.) This is not going to be good. As a company,we are already being killed with our unemployment rates. Our rate has tripled since 2008 and we have had no layoffs. When these types of taxes increase, the trickle down effect is hard on everyone. He had said alot of his peers are already talking about closing down their businesses. Praying that this does not set us back in the recovery process.
  23. I really don't think about him at all any longer. He served his time and has moved on. I have never thought that he was even a decent quarterback; maybe too much weed killed the brain cells. He might could play another position that did not require him to think on his feet, but I don't see him as a leader or a HOF QB.
  24. It is funny that you made this post because I was wanting to do this a couple of days ago. I live off Buchanan Hwy and it gripes me to the core to have people going anywhere between 35 to 45 mph on this road. When you go this slow, you can't possibly make it up the next hill without slowing down to almost 20 to 25 mph. If you must go this slow, then you need to travel between the hours of 10am and 4pm and allow everyone else to get home at a decent hour. The speed limit is 55 mph on that road, not 45 or even 50!!! AAARRRRGGGHHH! Ok I feel better now.
