  1. I heard "Crazy Heart" was "Tender Mercies" without the Christian part. BUT I have not seen it. I do love me some Jeff Bridges.
  2. Hey, MCMM - check out this very nice tribute from The Corner blog at National Review Online if you haven't seen it already: Ernie Harwell, R.I.P. [John J. Miller] The voice of Detroit Tigers baseball has died. I grew up listening to Ernie call games—sometimes in bed, having smuggled a portable radio between the sheets; sometimes with my grandfather, on summer nights at a house in northern Michigan that had no television. Harwell's distinctive voice—nasally, with the hint of a southern twang—was unforgettable. The sound of my mother's voice will stay with me always; so will Harwell'
  3. Not familiar this this gentleman, but this brings back fond memories of baseball on the radio. I used to LOVE listening to games on the radio...back when players were players and not prima donnas. sigh RIP, sir.
  4. Oh, wow...LOVERLY!!! Would love to see the rest when you have time to post. Glad you had a good time.
  5. Well, I opened the thread to vote for big business since I believe that Americans are exceptionally marvelous, wonderful, inventive people who can make just about anything work, and I believe in the free market/capitalist system, and I don't trust the government to do the right thing, and I don't want the government taking care of me. That's what I was gonna do, till I saw that avatar...GAH!!!!!!! I think blood just spurted out of my eyes. (I did manage to vote, however.) (Edited to remove an extra "do"...the avatar ruined my grammar, too. heh)

    SPLOST

When I vote, I will exercise my right and use that (as Dave Ramsey calls it) antique word that people don't really hear a lot these days - NO. The ONLY tax I have ever supported was for the fire dept., and then they went and cut them out of the regular operating budget. Fool me once, shame on me, and all that. They could say my house will burn down tomorrow if I don't vote yes on x tax, and I'd still vote NO. And I love the list posted for the Bulloch park thingy - HELLO. As CeeJay says, we are doing without and not buying things we might buy otherwise, but apparently the gooberment just
  7. 3-year-old nephew and I had a great time! He was in sublime bliss...I think he would have stayed for hours if they'd let him. I'm sorta glad the weather was threatening because maybe it wasn't as crowded as it would have been. (Although, it would have been nice to see the helicopters.) A great event!
  8. I'm serious, EJ78...I hope those complainers don't ever run into real problems. I think it's a great contest.
  9. I was wondering that, too, MrsB. It looks like lantana, but I'd think it's too early for that. Inquiring minds want to know! (And cute idea for the egg/cage, btw.)
  10. My next-door neighbor and I were both denied; we both have State Farm. Houses all around us, including my other next-door neighbor, their other next-door neighbor, and two houses directly across from us all got new roofs, but we didn't. We both appealed, and nada. Vent damage with ours as well. Oh, and one of those new roofs was a State Farm customer.
  11. I totally, Totally, TOTALLY agree with Starr & Dru's Nana.
  12. Yep. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, blah blah blah. I feel for you.
  13. It's a HOUSE?!? Seriously? Dang. I've wondered the same thing, but then I finally decided it was a business because who in their right mind would put a house there, but oh, well. Different strokes for different folks. *tiny related hijack* - What I want to know is what is that hideous monstrosity near the other end of Mt. Tabor where it runs into 381 and Frey Road is across from it? Not the first house, but the second house north of there on 381 (also accessible by Frey Road)...it looks like a bizarro castle. And they keep adding to it. Is it a house? Is it a hobby? *end of tiny r
  14. Is this "need" real or perceived (by the other person)? Are they just afraid of change? Do they treat you as well as the other people did? (Can you tell I've been in this situation before?)
  15. Well, don't just keep us hangin'!!! What did you need a moderater fer? Us Nosy Nellies/Nosy Nates want to know!
  16. Because we are growing up a generation of mannerless, uncivilized hooligans in this country. I am appalled - APPALLED, I tell you - at the lack of even the most rudimentary table manners I see in many kids today.
  17. I agree on locking the doors, but in many situations, locks won't stop them...they'll just break the windows. (Of course, in neighborhoods where the houses are in close proximity, they may not want to break windows to keep down noise.) It always pays to be cautious. The vast majority of criminals operate on an opportunity basis...if you make it too hard/inconvenient for them, they'll move on to the next opportune target. Which is why I keep my garage doors closed unless I'm working outside. I can't believe how many houses I drive where the garage doors are open with no sign of life. Big
  18. The funeral home (Henderson & Sons in Rome) guys came and got my Daddy's body when he went to be with the Lord, and they carried him out on a gurney with a sheet covering him up to his neck. Totally respectful.
  19. Past - Thomas Jefferson (I'd say my Daddy, but we said everything that needed saying before he went on ahead to heaven). Present - Barbara Bush (the elder) Future - My precious nephews when they're all grown up
  20. Meanwhile, repeat after me - there is no indication that this incident is related in any way to terrorism. If the FBI hasn't said it already, they'll be trotting out soon to do so. Nothing to see here, folks...move along.
  21. I don't know...her keeper from here said she didn't eat for a week after they got over there. I hope she's adjusted well. What a great animal. * end of teeny tiny hijack * And still want to hear about the great aunt.
  22. Moccasin Creek between Hiawassee and Clayton.
  23. Good thoughts about the fence; I have two acres (wish I had 63, but someday), and I've had similar troubles. I think I'll run me a barbed-wire fence...I know how 'cause I used to help my Daddy all the time on his farm. Hmmm...food for thought. Surepip brought up something I was wondering about as well - I've never heard of the county doing any surveying in disputes. Not that it doesn't happen, but if they did it, I'd like to know for future reference. Agreed...interesting topic. Do let us know how it turns out!
  24. Never experienced any constructive jealousy; only the destructive kind. My attitude is the same as gog8tor's...hey, honey, if you can get him, you can keep him. Also, just as an aside, I would NEVER go into an exec's office pining about something, or for any other reason than bidness. But that's just me. I'm just not like most other women, and that's not good or bad, I guess; it's just different.
