An 80's tune that I recently rediscovered: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9OSuy4e4HU

Some online retailers are guilty of providing your information to 3rd parties that results in issues like this. Usually, this charge is authorized by you at the time of checkout via some special offer to save on your purchase or receive something "free". The present this great offer similar to this: "Save 50% on your purchase today by signing up for the ABC service. Signing up is 100% free"! That's how the huge headline reads. My summation of how the print reads and the thinking of the scammers: "You authorize the ABC company to place a $9.95 charge on your phone bill (or credit card)

where is the best place to buy a laptop battery?
afriendlygeek replied to Lady Raider's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem. It's easy to spend hours analyzing. I've adopted a quicker method for most items which consists of looking at the overall rating, quickly skimming the titles of the reviews, and only reading the recent reviews (to see if there is a recent downward trend). My next step is to seek treatment for OCD. -

Amazon is where I send people as well. I recommend reading the reviews for the particular item and seller you are interested in. For me, this is one of the great strengths of Amazon. -

Tomorrow is the day I get rid of this gallbladder

I think it was a girl. I'm sure she's doing well and will not be away from pcom for too long. A daily posting average like hers is hard to maintain if you take to much time off. -
Next up - a picture of a diseased colon on a Big Mac box. In the name of consistency it just makes sense.

What Areas of the State's Budget Do We Cut?
afriendlygeek replied to zoocrew's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I would like to find detailed budget info for all of our budget items. By detailed, I mean something that is very granular not just the big picture for various agencies and departments. Does anyone know where that info can be found? I think that is critical info that is needed before anyone can come up with a budget. -

Will be praying for you and the BIL. Make sure you give your gallbladder an appropriate last meal before the death sentence is carried out. -
I don't seem to be getting notifications.
afriendlygeek replied to CedarcrestPC's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Ditto for me Nick. Very frustrating since email automatically pushes to my phone and I know I need to respond to a PM. I have tried that -even turned notifications off and then back on hoping that this would reset it. No luck. Maybe the pcom server is tired. I'm sure Pubby will have a fix for us soon. -
The crazy thing about how this works is that you are more at risk signing into Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, and Yahoo email (just to name a few) than you are logging into your bank account. Banks use SSL encryption (HTTPS instead of just HTTP) during your entire session which prevents snooping. While I think it is common sense to have a greater fear of crooks accessing our bank accounts, there is also risk involved in them having access to our accounts that on the surface seem more benign. We need to stop and think about the data that we have stored in these accounts and what would happen if thi

Could you elaborate a little more on this FB. We know that WEP can be cracked under 10 seconds, but as far as I know, WPA2 with AES encryption in uncrackable. AES is the same encryption that our government uses to keep our secrets a secret.

That's neat - I had never heard of her. I just checked out her blog and added it to my RSS feed.

GA Legislature to Cut $1BILLION from State Budget
afriendlygeek replied to zoocrew's topic in RECENT TOPICS
We still have officials wasting money on stuff we do not need. Two examples that I am familiar with: 1. A road near my house was recently paved and the old road was fine. 2. At my wife's school, they continue to buy books that are not needed only to stick them in a closet to collect dust. They can't buy the stuff they really need because there is no budget for that. But the book budget has plenty of money and it is a "use it or lose" thing. I suggested that maybe they could sell the books on ebay in order to buy the stuff they really needed. -
WB - I think this falls into the PBA (probably be alright) category. Before acting on my opinion though, make sure you read my pirated standard disclaimer below as I do not want RB filing a suit against me if you blow yourself up.

Greystone (GEMC) is an option that I would avoid. They are not open on Saturday and they were very unprofessional with several issues involving me. I'm with Douglas County Bank now and could not be any happier. They have that hometown feel and they know my name when I walk in.

In my mind, this is one of the weaknesses of our licensing system. Instead of using the licensing renewal concept for something meaningful, our government just uses it as a source of additional revenue. The cost would be minimal to require everyone to pass a computer based test in order to renew their license. Given the propensity of the human mind to forget information and the fact that traffic rules change over time, I think this would be a reasonable approach.

Delta Flight Attendants reject Union, again
afriendlygeek replied to Cathyhelms's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Senator Isakson and I are in agreement. I think it is a given that the NMB will rule in the Union's favor since it is controlled by Obama appointees and because Delta had a well developed campaign regarding the election. I'm not finding fault with Delta as I think they did the only thing that they could do to minimize the risk of having the FA's vote in favor of the Union. I'm sure that they are expecting to lose the appeal and already have "plan b" in works. In my estimation, the determining factor in union versus company issues, almost always hinges on whether the current president is a D
