  1. I'm not sure that any of us really understand the amount of effort and dedication that it takes to keep pcom functioning. Pubby has given himself wholeheartedly to this task and I believe that he is a true pioneer of this specific type of social network. I also have a FB and Twitter account which I rarely use since I really prefer the pcom format. Hats off and many thanks to you Pubby!
  2. Thanks for reminding me about the smoke alarm. I always forget that.
  3. If the slowdown happened after the AVG upgrade, try uninstalling it temporarily and see if the problem goes away. If it does, you can reinstall based upon the theory that something went wrong during the upgrade process. If the computer has the same problem after the reinstall, uninstall it again and install Microsoft Security Essentials which is found here: http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials I had some issues with AVG 2011 hogging CPU cycles right after it was initially released, but have not seen any problems in the past few weeks.
  4. Subby is correct. The only thing that I would add is that you can usually find them much cheaper online rather than purchasing one at the local big box store.
  5. Another legend from our younger days passes on: http://sports.espn.g...tory?id=5764168
  6. Based on what happened with another Union's vote earlier this year at Delta, my guess is that the results will be discarded and the FA's will have another chance to vote within the next few months. http://www.thestreet.com/story/10910784/2/delta-vote-results-union-wants-re-run.html Given the narrow margin of the results (9544-9216), and if there is a do-over, the outcome will not be a given. Until the NMB rules on the do-over, I don't think there will be a party at Delta HQ.
  7. Hush! Don't give them any ideas. I'm sure they would find that perfectly acceptable.
  8. PCOM and the universe are safe. However, If I was a farmer on that other site, I would harvest the rutabagas now and make sure the cows are in the barn.
  9. I ran into this problem a few weeks back. The work around that I came up with was to use a "left" skin setting instead of a "right". For example, use "Blue - Left" instead of "Blue-Right". This should allow you to use RTE. It works for me but I have not investigated why. I suspect the frammagator has depolarized due to accelerated solar protons indiscriminately modified by the operation of the Hadron Collider during a hamachi phase shift. (In other words, I do not have a clue why that worked - I just enjoy making up complex sounding answers).
  10. You may have heard me mention before that if you use public wifi found in coffee shops, fast food joints or other places that you should assume that someone could see everything that you do and even hijack accounts that you log in to. Up until now, it has required someone that was fairly technically sophisticated to take this virtual look over your shoulder. That changed on October 24 when a new Firefox extension (named Firesheep)as released that allows anyone that is capable of following simple instructions and clicking a mouse to invade your privacy. A video and a link to an article is poste
  11. I use a version of Linux just about everyday for various tasks with my business. The number one thing that's great about it from a normal user standpoint is that the risk of viruses is microscopic compared to Windows.
  12. Explain what you mean by "kicked off". Does the browser close or do you see a message that you are no longer connected?
  13. Clark should have wrote the amendment. I can't believe he blew it on this one. I'm back to a "no" on all of them.
  14. I was planning to vote no on all of them until I stumbled upon this article by Clark Howard. http://www.ajc.com/opinion/clark-howard-a-vote-685915.html Amendment 4 is now a yes for me.
  15. The pic game me an idea...... next time use your Sling Blade voice to order. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqTWQiTlhKQ
  16. I'm not sure why folks are getting worked up over this possibility. We can all just simply raise our income to compensate for the raise in taxes. Just tell your boss that he has been hit with a salary increase and your investment related companies that stocks, bonds and savings accounts will be providing a greater return. No problem at all. Oh wait a minute...................... Dang- I forgot for a moment that us common folk have to live in the real world.

Rotating the displayed image is an option for some graphics hardware. First, try pressing the Ctrl + Alt + Up Arrow. If that does not work, go to the control panel and see if there is an icon to control the graphics. It may not be obvious as it may just say Nvidia, Intel or something else. Open everything one at a time if necessary. You will be looking for a rotation option.
  18. Agreed. You fight for us and you are us. I wonder why he never became a citizen though?
  19. Thanks for the nice words. It's always a pleasure to help you and RB. Don't be scared. At this point, I don't think you have a lot to lose. Besides, I can always be your plan b.
  20. Lot's of great businesses on pcom. I like using the commerce members because of the proved track record. The bad guys do not last long on here.
  21. Great topic and a good time for me to explain my policies and procedures: About 80% of time, the work that I do on a computer involves backing up customer data for one reason or another. (Failing hard drive, infection, etc). After backing up the folders where user created content is normally stored, (my documents, my music, my pictures, etc..) I'll do a search of the entire drive for user created content file types such as "jpg", "mp3", and "doc". I perform this search because important files are sometimes stored in uncommon locations. For example, I occasionally find pictures stored in th
  22. The higher the number the better in this case. "Idle" means the CPU is kicked back in the recliner picking its nose waiting for something to do.
  23. Google each one and see what it is. I have 46 on the XP machine I am on now.
  24. Juggling jello is pretty difficult as well.
  25. Some of them are processes necessary for Windows to run. Others are stuff that you want to run like your anti-virus program. Others are just nuisance items that a programmer decided to have start automatically so that his program would open faster if you decided to use it. You can google each process to see if it is necessary (or desired) and stop it from starting up automatically by using MSCONFIG. instructions can be found here: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/index.html Be careful though, only disable things that you know are safe to do so.
