  1. Pubby here; Me, I really do like to delegate I'd like to delegate more The difference and the complaint of the person Blazing Saddles referred however, is not totally without merit ... but not in relation to Blazing Saddles. I know, for instance, that back in the 1960s, the ratio of salary of the lowest paid employee in many corporate settings was, on average, about 1/30th that of the boss. That mean that the guy sweeping the shop floor earned five grand a year in those days, the CEO earned $150,000 grand. (Adjusted for inflation, figure $15,000 vs. $450,000. Going

  6. Satellite: While I'll not suggest we do it this week, what might be fun is for you to stop by the Pcom office some Wednesday night to talk about this. what would be particularly cool is to get one of the organizers wherever they are to sit in on the interview with us via skype video phone or some such. pubby PS: We did that last week on the PCOMFUN show when Curtis called in with his and we went full screen on the laptop with the video and it was almost like he was there
  7. the analysis also ignores the income tax due on the rebates (that is counted as income) and it also ignores the tax, tag and title benefits that each of the 50 states enjoyed on the 770,000 (vehicles) *$25,000 per vehicle = 19,250,000,000 * 6 percent sales tax = $1.2 billion THIS YEAR in direct aid to state and local government in sales tax alone. Add the property tax tab and income taxes generated on the sales commissions and all, the $4500 per vehicle bonus was paid back in taxes THIS YEAR ... not to mention the savings in future years from reduced use of gasoline, value as a stimulus to t
  8. According to the NYTimes, GM will begin offering a money back guarantee on cars it sells http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/11/business/11gm.html?hpw The ads, which will break Sunday will feature Edward E. Whitacre Jr., the retired CEO of ATT that came out of retirement to head the new GM. In the article Whitacre said he was skeptical of making the offer until he drove the products being made by GM. From the Times:

  12. Ask yourself would you be willing to move to make this happen for your son? If yes, either do it and ask forgiveness or tell her you're going to do it and don't take no for an answer. Given you already have a pet You've already paid the pet deposit. Right now there are a lot of houses in need of tenants and if you're a good tenant - pay your rent on time, don't trash the property, and have even proven your responsibility with a pet, the landlord would be foolish to invite you to leave. pubby

  14. THERE WAS AN ALTERNATIVE FUTURE, JUST TEN YEARS FROM NOW What could possibly go wrong: The phone rings and the lady of the house is summoned to St. Agnes laboratory "Mrs. Sanders, I am Dr. Jones at St. Agnes Laboratory. When your husband's doctor sent his biopsy to the lab last week, a biopsy from another Mr. Sanders arrived as well. We are now uncertain which one belongs to your husband. Frankly, either way the results are not too good." "What do you mean?" Mrs. Sanders asks nervously. "Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimer's and the other one teste
  15. I made a simple reply to that original post saying that I had no notable information. I've not heard anything since either. But I know we didn't set it invisible ... Or let me say I'd be surprised if it was set invisible. pubby PS: We were supportive of the effort but I suspect the ambitiousness of the effort may, particularly in light of the recent economic difficulties, mean it is a slower build than initially hoped. I do know that folks from the PCSO were also supportive and integral in the effort and, for that reason, I would be highly surprised if there is one of those BI
  16. If you have a floppy drive, just copy them to your hard drive. You can email them, copy them to a USB drive, copy them to a SD card. Even an 8 MB SD card will work and anyone with a digital camera will give you one free because these days 8 gigabytes fit on the HCSD card. Anyway, the smallest SD card will hold more than a typical floppy which holds ... what ... not quite a megabyte? pubby

  21. Years ago - seven or eight - I bought an old Lincoln and it didn't have a tag and I had the paperwork. Didn't make any difference to the cop that stopped me ... he wrote me up. I went to traffic court (having gotten the tag in the meantime) and the judge asked why I was there. I said to plea not guilty to the charge of driving a car without a tag. Caused a ruffle of sorts, the prosecutor (or solicitor more precisely) can and asked what I thought I was doing pleading not guilty as if they had never heard of such a thing. I simply pointed the date on the bill of sale and the date
  22. I tend to think the discussion here is one of semantics. Having spent a reasonable amount of time in advertising (in addition to news) the technique described and the outcome of the associated youtube video does not, in my understanding of the onerous term, represent subliminal advertising. To me 'subliminal advertising techniques' are more aptly described as the inclusion of a frame of 'popcorn' or 'drink Coca-cola' inserted in a movie trailer going on before a movie. The idea is that the inclusion of a single frame that no one even cognitively sees, is subliminal advertising.

  24. http://www.midwiferytoday.com/articles/ultrasoundrodgers.asp This particular article tends to point to the role 'increased heat' may have on the development of the fetus. That the increased heat may come from illness, personal choice (lounging in a hot tub) or ultrasound is explored but some of the unique observations are that the incidence of autism is greater in nations with universal health care because all women get ultrasound during pregnancy vs. only about 70 percent among Americans (because of the gaps in insurance available). That the rise seems to parallel the use of
