  1. You could have had this information Friday on the Paulding.com news ... you know pubby
  2. The fine and charge is based on the curfew issue. She got the ticket for driving with a license that asserted she was out after curfew. Essentially, the understanding is that the restrictions on the license held are binding on the individual even if they over 18? Further discussion shows that it took the officer a good 20 minutes to come up with the charge ... my daughter said she was waylaid - her car bathed in bright flashing lights - that amount of time before the officer came and presented her the ticket. I wonder if there is prior case law on this point. pubby As
  3. My daughter will turn 20 this December. She got her license when she was 16 and, of course, it was a class D - i.e a restricted license that prohibits her driving after midnight. Of course, as a 19 year old going on 20 college student, she's not always in by midnight but when she turned 18, she didn't upgrade her DL ... largely because my wife told her not to do so. (Why? I haven't the foggiest but I thought it nice that she followed her mother's guidance on the issue.) So, about two weeks ago she was coming back from her boyfriend's house a little after midnight and got
  4. You need to reduce it to about 800x600 or so to fit most screens. There are many ways to do this. One would be to bring it into a photo editing program like photoshop and just resize. This link http://www.paulding.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=29240 will link to a widget from microsoft for XP (It may work on vista, I don't know) that will resize images from windows explorer (file manager). Picasa and other programs that say, "email this image" will usually resize the image to 640x480 pixels in the process. Just email the image to yourself (this works sometimes). If wor
  5. GEAgirl: A preacher can refuse to marry a couple - same race, different race, gay, not ... whatever because as a member of the clergy he represents an institution that is not bound by secular law in the same way that a Justice of the Peace - a representative of Government. For instance, I'm sure there are Rabbi's who have refused to let a princess marry an Irish Catholic before; ditto the Baptist minister and the desire of one of his congregants to marry a Islamic woman. However, as a government employee and represenstative the individual is acting on behalf of the government an
  6. Some people are obsessed with publicity. I happened to catch a rerun of the wife-swap episode he appeared on the other night and the dad was really out of control - hyperactive. Wouldn't put it past this guy to concoct the entire episode. pubby

  10. Here is the official SO release on the matter. Apparently the state no longer protects the names of 17 year olds and they are taken to the county detention center. Arrests Made at South Paulding High School (Paulding County, GA) Tiara Darby, 18 year old female, was arrested yesterday after being involved in a physical altercation at South Paulding High School that involved multiple people. Darby was charged with Public Affray, Obstruction (Felony), and Disruption of a Public School and taken to the Paulding County Detention Center. A Paulding County Sheriff’s Office S

  12. Three youths arrested in altercation at local high school An 18 year old female South Paulding High School student is in jail tonight having been charged with felony obstruction, public affray and disruption of a public school after that student attacked the School Resource Officer, according to the Paulding Sheriff's office. The 18 year old student was apparently in the midst of a fight with two other girls, aged 16 and 17, when the officer sought to stop the fight and she turned on him, said Deputy Brandon Gurley, public information officer for the Sheriff's office. The officer then us
  13. FYI: It has been confirmed by the SO that an observer mistook a wooden ROTC rifle being taken into the school for the real thing, alerted authorities and EPHS was put on lock down. That lockdown was lifted earlier this morning. pubby PS: Lumak, it must have been your honest face that kept folks from getting fearful that you were up to no good.
  14. Can you clarify what you mean by can tops/tabs? Are these like the one's from soup cans? Maybe I'm showing my age but when you said can tops/tabs I was thinking cola can tabs that have been redesigned to be virtually eliminated (they stay with the can) and anyone trying to get them off would likely, over the course of a couple of dozen, end up with a nasty cut. pubby
  15. I think the moral of the story is that with the availability of the automatic defibrillators, we ought to plot a map showing average response times in the county and to place, whether it is in a convenience store or a SO patrol car (which being on zone patrol may be able to respond more quickly than Fire Rescue ) make it so that most points/places in the county most of the time are only five to seven minutes away from emergency care. As I believe you pointed out if you are in Dallas or Hiram proper, you probably do have a sub 8 minute response time for Fire-Rescue which ought to be the
  16. Big Lee ... Think about the importance to society! The trip to the moon in 1969 and the probes to Mars and other planets have been like ... well maybe Lief Erricson's first visits and even Christopher Columbus' trip to the so-called "new world." We've already created 'distinct environments' ... i.e. glass domes cut off from the balance of the earth ... that were designed to subsist and even flourish with a minimum of resources from the earth ... i.e. water. A domed facility like these experimental environments can survive and even output things like rocket fuel from H2o and
  17. Freebird: I got interested in the topic when Dr. Sanjay Gupta was on Larry King and started talking about this 'new' protocol - i.e. continuous chest compressions. Basically, the assertion is that if the person had been having normal aspirations, there is enough oxygen in the blood to last eight to ten to twelve minutes ... i.e. the blood contains enough oxygen that by simply moving the blood through the body - keeping it moving - the prognosis for recovery without significant damage to the organs is good for up to about 10-12 minutes. If you are there alone with someone, ob
  18. You can post images that are updated but tickers that require scripts are prohibited in signatures because the risk of these bits of code being corrupted is too great. (this is how folks get viruses on places like fb and myspace.) Hackers like to go after the sites that host/produce tickers and while it is relatively rare, they do get in and pollute the scripting codes. pubby
  19. Wife called and reported a three car pileup ... no car descriptions and apparently only minor (if any) injuries at an accident in the east bound lanes at Old Harris Road (road in front of Paulding Bowling Center) and US 278. At roughly 8 a.m. traffic was backed up to Kroger and the intersection of GA 61 and US 278. It should clear relatively quickly but if you plan on coming through there before 8:30a ... you may want to consider the Business 6 through Dallas alternative. pubby
  20. Basically, the belief is this: That it is important to keep the blood moving throughout the body and that there is enough o2 in the blood (along with whatever residual aspiration tha comes through the compressions) to keep the persons organs from dying within about an 8-10 minute window ... without the mouth to mouth. And that Fire Rescue/EMTs will arrive within that time window with a defibrillator and if the balance of the organs are 'okay' ... the person will be much more likely to survive. This is true in cardiac arrest cases because usually the respiration was normal in the minute

  22. New research ... actually pretty new research ... came to my attention tonight and I was astounded that I had never heard about it. The research suggests that three times as many adults who collapse from cardiac arrest, could survive if this particular procedure was followed by bystanders. Answer and vote in the above poll before you view this video ... but DO VIEW THE VIDEO! It could save a life - it could save MY life! pubby
