At one time, Mr. Meek, as cheif building inspector, was the closest thing Paulding County had to a professional planning and zoning staff. I did several stories with him just prior to his retirement. My prayers are with the family. pubby

Paulding.com Is A New Kind Local Media
gpatt0n replied to a topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
Here are a few of the earliest users and their member numbers. antraveous (3) chindog (4) thedeerslayer (5) annar (6) Meltid (9) What is not known is that earlier in July I had been out putting goodies on the Silver Comet Trail and other locations ... just hiding stuff in a treasure hunt. This was done with notices being broadcast on the 'earlier' version of Paulding.com (a Ultimate Bulletin Board version that had been around since May of 2000.) That site was largely 'on its own' from Sept. 2000 on through July 2003 when I renewed my interest in Paulding.com ... and -

Folks you're nailing us to the wall. As shown yesterday and today, our server can deliver over 13000 pages an hour which is pretty good. So, why was the server between 3-4 today only able to deliver about 6,500 pages? The answer is simple. It was answering multiple requests of many people. It would seem the ability of the server to respond spirals downward when demand just exceeds supply and peaks and folks click, click, click in a vain effort to make it go faster. Indeed, the effort of click, click, click just makes it go SSSLLLOOOWWWEEERRR. Said differently, what the

PCOM going down for maintenance tonight Paulding.com will be going down for about an hour at about 4 a.m. this morning. Hopefully it won't be noticed but by the five or ten people who will sign on, miss us and wonder. We should be up by about 5 a.m. but I am not anticipating any kind of issue at all. This is just a quick notice so not one gets excited.

publisher@paulding.com is and has been operating. I don't, however, think it is linked to the pubby member name, however. I removed the image above and, thankfully, feel pretty refreshed today. pubby -
So, what is happening? Hummmm?
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Welcome and learn about the NEW Paulding.com
Bwitchy Unfortunately, voting won't determine the truth and what I've got to do is find someone who can get to the crux of the matter quickly and efficiently. My area of expertise is in content ... not bits and bytes ... and forcing me into it is like forcing a painter, stuck on an island with nothing but a cell phone to perform an appendectomy with a first aid kit and what information he gets over the air. (or in my case via the internet.) For instance, until a minute ago when I was looking, I had no idea there was reported to be a hacking group called losercheats ... sugge -
So, what is happening? Hummmm?

LR: If it is a setting thing, then I need to get someone to tune up the server. If it is a server capacity thing, then certainly, I already have pricing and a plan for expansion. (but it doesn't sound like a server capacity issue if at 6 am when there were only six people on, the server was acting like a turtle). If it is a mis-use of the server by an undisclosed third party for whatever reason, (hijacking the server to send spam, a deliberate denial of service attack) I could have twenty times the capacity I have now and they could still bring the site to a crawl. What -

I understand the frustration that folks are feeling. I know it is not at all good for my business. I can only apologize and promise that things are in motion to either expand the server base, if that is needed, or otherwise improve the situation. I'll simply reiterate that it does not make sense to me that the server is being brought to its knees by the number of folks we have online right now. I offered a picture of what I'm seeing that may help someone else explain what it transpiring. pubby -
Paulding.com has slowed tremendously today. Amazing isn't it? Being hacked last week ... we've had a few 'slow days' and all of a sudden it is like molasses and with not that many people online. Makes one go hummmm? What also makes one go hummmm is a chart like this one pulled about 20 minutes ago. I'll show it and then say what I see. What it tells me is that the little bitty (1kb) avatar with that number was consuming 15% of the cpu ... Hummmmm? What it tells me is this ancient topic from Learjet (pre-election 2004) had a reply by TBAR was TODAY consuming
