  1. I would never be able to pick these girls out of a crowd. They look like every other high school age girl I've seen around. One looks just like my neighbor.
  2. Most of the nurses in doctor's offices/hospitals I've been to the past few years wear Croc's (sp?) Barf!
  3. Dammit I choked on my own spit when I read that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. My husband and I were talking about exactly the same thing last night. Most of the kids my son's age have never had to lose or be last in anything. They have never had to pick themselves up and start over because their parents have made sure they never fail. When they get older and nobody is there to make sure they succeed, and then they don't succeed, they don't know what to do.
  5. the same thing happened to my brother. His daughter came home very late, got mouthy and told my brother to "f&*% off". My brother slapped her across the face. My niece called her mother, the mother called the cops and my brother was arrested. In court, the judge asked what happened and my brother told him what my niece did and said to him. The judge said that he would have done the same thing if his daughter talked that way to him and he dismissed the case.
  6. We spent a small fortune siding our house. We went with vinyl and we upgraded the insulation and had all new gutters installed. It looks nice and we have a warranty against it fading as long as we own it. We got it from Home Depot. It was installed about 10 years ago and it still looks new. We paid about $17,000 to have it done. Yeah, I know - we got "screwed" because we paid so much (that's what everyone tells us) but it looks nice and it doesn't look wavy like our neighbors houses who each spent about $5,000 getting theirs sided. Now, they both have problems and neither one can find t
  7. We rarely fix anything ourselves. My husband is not a handy man (I'm being nice - that is a gross understatement, God love him) so we call somebody when things need to be fixed. I would rather pay to have it fixed right than try to fix ourselves and then have to turn around and pay for it to be repaired. The key is to have it fixed before the problem turns in to a bigger problem/mess. I can't say if our house was built good or not. I guess it was, although when we had our floor put in last week, they had to lay the tile out on a diagonal pattern because Doug said none of our walls were
  8. It has always amazed me how some people live in a house, do nothing to it as far as maintenance goes, and then sell it when stuff needs to be fixed or replaced. The house we bought 11 years ago was one of those houses. It needed siding, a roof, a new A/C system and upgrades throughout. We bought it cheaper than the other houses in the subdivision were selling and we have replaced/renewed as needed. Keep up with maintenance and it won't be such a big deal down the road. On the other side of the coin, the house we sold to buy our current house was a doll house and in perfect condition. Noth
  9. Beautiful!! I especially like the pink cake with Kaidence on the top. That is really cute!
  10. You do beautiful work! That's why we hire you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. I don't think that's weird at all! I have a sister who also vacuums every day. I think I'll do the every year thing and touch up as needed. We have a dog (beagle = sheds constantly) and one 21 yo son in addition to my husband and me. It shouldn't be too bad to clean. But, like I said before - I have a certain knack for spilling/dropping things. I will need to keep the heavy duty cleaning ideas given here on hand.
  12. I'll just seal it and see how it goes then. If I have to do any heavy-duty cleaning, I will re-seal as needed. Doug suggested re-sealing once a year so I'll try that. Thanks again to all of you for your suggestions and tips!!
  13. So, how often do you have to re-seal it? Every time you clean it?! I hope not! I clean every week.
  14. That's good to hear! It looks beautiful and I'm very happy with the job Doug and his guys have done on it. I just hope I can maintain it correctly. I'll look in to the Swiffer system. I use the dry Swiffer cloth on my hardwood.
  15. Thanks everyone! I was thinking I should probably wait as long as the manufacturer recommends. I guess we will just be careful about getting it dirty until then. I'll try the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide when I need to clean the grout good (because I will stain it eventually!) The tile is not laid out in a straight line pattern. It is in a brick/offset angled pattern so it would be very hard to tape any edges before sealing the grout. I think I might have to use a brush or sponge to keep the mess to a minimum. Man. I should have gotten linoleum!!!! Thanks, you guys!
  16. Well..................... the grout I picked out is kind of a light tan/beige color. It is called harvest and it looked really good with the tile (it was used on a display with the tile I picked out). So there's no changing it now since it is on the floor already. I just don't know when to seal it. My floor guy (Doug Sanders) said I can do it this week - like tonight or tomorrow. I looked up the grout on line and it says to wait 7 days. I can do a lot of damage as far as spills and stains in 7 days, let me tell you! I think we need to do it as soon as possible. Also, any suggestions
  17. We have had a tile floor installed in the kitchen, small hallway, bathroom and laundry room. They are doing the grout today as we speak. I know I will need to seal the grout but I have the following questions if anyone can help: 1. Do we wait to seal it or do it right away, as in tomorrow? 2. The tile itself does not need to be sealed because it is porcelain. Do I get the sealant that you spray on the grout lines or the kind that you brush on with an applicator? 3. Once sealed, when can I clean it (i.e. mop my floors)? Or do I clean/mop before seal it? (that's kind of a stu
  18. Good luck to your friend. Cancer sucks.
  19. I'm pretty sure my mom got her wigs through the American Cancer Society. They sent her to a wig shop and they fit her with a wig and she paid nothing for it (this was in Illinois or I would give you the name of the place). I would call the Cancer Society. Also, I think her insurance paid for a wig for her, too. Mostly she wore turbans - they weren't as hot on her head. I remember my dad sending the wigs back to the cancer society when she died so they could give them to somebody else who needed a wig.
  20. Update on the gardenia - I looked again this weekend at the gardenia bush because I was going to dig it up and throw it out but it does have new growth on it. The dead leaves have not fallen off so it still looks mostly dead, but there is new growth on it!!

    Rhubarb

I guess it tastes like a fruit with sweetener mixed in. It looks like celery except it's red. The leaves are poisonous and you have to cut them off before using the stem. Hmm. I guess I can't really describe what it tastes like. It has its own unique flavor. Very, very tart.

    Rhubarb

You need to add plenty of sugar to anything you make with rhubarb. It is very tart. I like to mix rhubarb with strawberries and make pie. Also rhubarb crisps and cobblers are good. The main thing is it needs to be sweetened quite a bit - I don't know anyone who eats it unsweetened. Most people either like it or hate it.

    Rhubarb

I knew the price would be high but that's just ridiculous! I wish I could get it to grow here. Maybe I'll try a farmer's market. Did the weekend farmer's market start up again in Marietta on the square? I know they have it during the summer months but I wasn't sure when it started.
