  1. OK, got the bill, yea it doubled from May, $113.00 to $244.00 and it hasn't even gotten hot yet. Got some filter cleaner for the pool, we'll see how that does.
  2. Add a 3/4 horse pool pump running 12+ hours a day trying to clear up this stupid pool and I am really afraid of what my bill will look like. It looking like I will have to dump the 10,000 gallons and refill, at summer rates. My water bill is going to look like my power bill this month.
  3. I've seen one twice, heard one a third time. The first was in NJ, I was out walking near a wild park that was next to the hotel and saw an unidentified animal up ahead near the sidewalk. Slowed down, but as I approached, it gave a very loud squall and ran off into the park. Really weird sounding call. Second time was while deer hunting. It was amazing how easily that fur blends into the background when it stopped moving. It was less than 50 yds away in grassy brush and every time it stopped, I'd lose it, even with the scope. Watched it for about 10 minutes. It looked at me in the s
  4. I think you have a point. The government continues to harass businesses with regulation after regulation on what they should give their employees, how to treat their employees, who they must hire (whether qualified or not), make it dang difficult to get rid of a non-performing employee, and with Obamacare, increasing taxes on the employer based on the number of employees. Is it any wonder that businesses are doing their best to get rid of employees where they can? Each time the minimum wage is raised, it makes it that much more economical to use automation to replace an employee, look
  5. I agree with this. Lots of people tell me I'm wasting money to go to a dealership for repairs, but if you find one you trust and after getting ripped off to the tune of $2000 for a transmission overhaul that wasn't, I don't think it's a waste. These cars are not the cars of the 60s that all had a carb and worked the same way no matter who built it. They are high tech complicated computer control systems and it takes someone who has access to the actual service documentation and the correct diagnostic equipment to truely *diagnose* the problem and true replacement parts rather than throw
  6. Which reminds me of a comedy song I heard on the Dr Demento Show years and years ago... From Proctor and Bergman's (Firesign Theatre alumni) "Give Us a Break".
  7. Sounds cool. Haven't had a lot to do with radio since the CB craze of the 70's but have always been interested. Have to see if I can carve some time out this weekend to drop by. That's the station near the Silver Comet right?
  8. And from the comments that I read that South Fulton made, it was all about the money for them too.
  9. Well, they got that wish then. Smart critters.
  10. My pool sure Algae bloomed this week while I was out of town... Green as grass...
  11. I'd be surprised as heck if the State (since Hwy 61 is a state hwy) allowed a traffic light between the bridge over the SCT and 278. Traffic backs up too much already with that one light at 278. IF the shopping center goes far enough down 278, they might allow a light at the back entrance (like Kroger, near Ruby Tuesday) but I wonder how long it would take to get state approval.
  12. Will they be doing full background checks on the people they give these arms to? The clips will be limited to 8 rounds right? Their won't be any Assault Rifles included will there? I guess freedom to bear arms against a repressive government is only for those who are fighting some OTHER government. The hypocrisy of our President with this action is incredible. After the war (or even during it) these same weapons will be used on innocent civilians. Count on it.
  13. I wouldn't think that this location would be much better, ever try to get out of that shopping center when PCHS is getting in or out or rush hour? 61 seems to be getting close to as busy as 92 has been. An it has a Kroger on the other side of the intersection that has multiple ways out with lights.
  14. Publix had a store in Hiram and closed it, wonder how long this one will last?
  15. Got the 2013 assessment, went down a little less than 1%. OK, but since it went UP 17% last year, I was hoping for a better correction. Had it gone up again, I would have appealed, but 1% down is acceptable. Loan escrow should be reviewed next month, the 17% rise will be applied then. Not looking forward to it. Anybody have a major change in value?
  16. Was trimming the bushes in the front yard this afternoon and found two little baby snakes, each about 8 inches long. Not sure what kind they were, but they were not vipers, so we moved them away from the house and let them go. I'd love to have a rat snake move in the area if it would eat the chipmunks and squirrels.
  17. They ask a question of inmates that a positive response to the question will get their captors in trouble. Hmmmm not sure I'd take those responses as gospel quite yet...
  18. It may have been there as a private track, but I don't remember hearing it 13 years ago when we moved in. In any case, I haven't asked that the owner be prevented from riding on his own land. However, going commercial *after* the homes around it have been approved by the BOC is another matter. The non-commercial use they have now doesn't really bother me, my point was that *if* those that enjoy the hobby worked on reducing the noise it generates, they might have fewer people complain about their hobby. I used to fly RC airplanes and our club had a strict noise policy our of res
  19. Mankind has been genetically modifying stuff we grown for thousands of years. Every mutation that occurs is due to a genetic modification. (Every Golden Delicious apple can be traced back to a single mutated tree in West Virginia) Mankind has been mixing hybrids and cross breeding since time began attempting to genetically modify our plants. (and animals for that matter) Modifications are done to make the plants more pest resistant, which allows the same food to be grown *without* using near as much pesticides on the fields. They can increase yield and allow the reduction in use of f
  20. It's the ONLY way from Hwy 61N to 41. Only alternates are the Dallas-Acworth Hwy all the way south in Dallas and in the northern direction, Old Alabama Road by the Bartow Airport. They've closed it before for culvert work, there are two alternates, one is using overlook trail, which has a STEEP downhill at one end and is curvy as heck, or Harmony Grove to Cedarcrest.
  21. There is a private track there. Very noisy and annoying when they are using it. (and I'm just over a mile away and can hear them running on it) The owners tried to get a permit for commercial operation a couple of years ago, but the commissioners turned it down based on the outcry of all the residential owners around the site because of the noise. If the motorcross people would use good mufflers, they would have more options, but the insistence that they have little or no mufflers make them their own worst enemy, IMHO.
  22. I guess I was luckier than I thought after your story. In 1992, my wife had taken our 11 month old minivan into the dealer for an oil change and checkup. I get a call a few hours later and long story short, was told that it had fallen off the lift and was heavily damaged. (The lift had run low on oil and the float valve that should have shut it down was bent. Thus air got into the lift control valve instead of oil. At 4 ft in the air, the lift (with van on it) jumped about a foot in the air, then the lift stopped but the van kept going up, fell back down, bounced on the lift, slipped
  23. I would add getting an automatic cleaner. We have an above ground 24'x 4' and it makes life soooo much more easy. I balked at the price when my wife suggested we get one when we bought the pool, then said I'm sorry for doubting you and went and got it 2 weeks later. Worth every dime. I close the pool rather than leaving it open during the winter. That way I have no cleaning, timers, thermostats, anything from Sept to April, just drain the cover after big rains. If you decide to close the pool, get skimmer guards and leave the water level up while it's closed. Saves a lot of wate
  24. All ears here... don't leave us hanging....
  25. Note that those fines are for first offenses. If you have ever gotten a ticket anywhere else for speeding, the limit jumps quite a bit as seen below. Also, you are correct, that there may be many court costs and other fees tacked on to jack up the total cost. My link
