  1. Dang! Balanced the checkbook and noticed that the deposit from my paycheck had dropped quite a bit. Pulled up the check stubs and low and behold, the entire amount is due to the GA withholding going up nearly 30% for the same Exemptions. WTH? I asked our company payroll about it to see if it's an error and they say that they believe that the income tax for GA changed this year in some way to cause it and the payroll company is just applying it as it should. Ah, Gee Thanks, you are so helpful... NOT. So I ask who to contact at the payroll company and am told they won't talk to emp
  2. Interesting! We are on our 12th year with using CFLs in a lot of our lights. I need to look into this for sure. Thanks.
  3. If the powers that be would give up this "Free Trade" crap (read, Big Business wants to make the highest profit possible) and set up a series of tariffs on imports based on the difference in wages between the county of manufacture and the equivalent wage here in the USA, we'd do two things. 1) Increase the amount of manufacturing being built here since imports would cost more due to transport and tariff. 2) Have a huge influx of cash into the USA's coffers via first the import tariffs, then the taxes from wages of new workers in the USA as plants were built and came on-line to replace th
  4. I have to say, I feel pretty bad every time I have spend a couple of weeks in Jersey and can't wait to get home either. IMHO, the NE is not the most friendly part of the nation. I was up there one time and thought I was going to have to break up a fight between the two guys I was working with all day long. Turned out that's just how people relate up there, with argument and sarcasm. Well, you have to admit that it goes both ways. Remember the theories that the Bush Govt shot down TWA flight 800 or did the first World Trade Center Bombing to get support for the Gulf War. Th
  5. Weather Rock If rock is dry, it's sunny If rock is wet, it's raining If rock is white, it's snowing if rock is blown away, it's a tornado. Simple!
  6. Should be around $80-90 or so. I think I've used S&S and had good service as I recall.
  7. Interesting, wife said something this afternoon about hearing thunder rumble last night. High Sonic boom? More problems at Plant Bowen?
  8. One thing about the armed forces, for many, training is about as dangerous as real missions.
  9. Carp, guess I'll be dropping that last 110 ft Sweet gum that is damaged in the backyard tonight. I had two of them that started rotting and learned that if you know they are damaged, insurance won't pay if it hits the house. Dropped the first one last weekend. Anybody need some Sweetgum firewood? Timber!!
  10. Guesstimate is 2018 on the Paulding County Website.
  11. Guy on a motorcycle forum is renting a room in a house. Landlord decides to build a an outbuilding to store his Rototiller and other "stuff" When the renter sees the construction, he has to post it. It's great. As the original threat has LOTS of comments, I'll have links to the main posts below, but read to the end, some of the photoshopped pictures are priceless!! There are comments from around the world on the thread, it's had 2 million hits in three weeks. Quotes below are his: First Page of Thread Post of Second set of Pict
  12. I beg to differ. Between the bridge and the top of the hill at the horse farm, I've seen that fence for the subdivision have posts destroyed six or eight times since it was put up. That plus the pine trees dropping across the fence, I bet they've built that sucker at least twice. Before the fence was put in, you could see the marks on several of the pine trees where someone took the curve too fast and hit the tree about 10-15 feet up in the air.
  13. Interesting... Used to shop at the the "Cost + 10%" on Powder Springs Rd about 15 years ago. I thought everyone had given up on that concept.
  14. 4 x 12ft lanes + 20ft median + 20 ft ROW = 88 ft they will need, plus flattening and straightening the road. That's going to be major reconstruction. I am not looking forward to 2 years of construction.
  15. Dang, I think I remember those threads... I must be an old timer! Have a safe trip and enjoy the sun for me!
  16. By my admittedly SWAG: 4680!
  17. According to the Patch, the General called it: Carterville Patch Not sure why they would want to use a flammable gas to cool the turbine, lots of other things they could use. Remember the Hindenburg? Bad week for power plants: Entergy's Arkansas Nuclear plant did an emergency shutdown when a generator Stator (500 tons)for unit 1 fell during a lift, damaging water and power equipment, causing unit 2 to auto shut down. Emergency generators are providing cooling to unit one, while commercial power is being used to cool unit 2. One worker killed. Platts
  18. Dang, I was in the basement this afternoon off of Dabbs Bridge and the house and windows rattled from a boom. If that was it, that was a heck of a explosion. Glad no one was hurt!! SG
  19. For 19.95 a month with BS, you would have max rates of 0.768 mbs download and 0.128 mbs upload. You are meeting specification for upload, but still running pretty slow for the download service. If you are not really, really far from the roadside box (DSL rates drop as you get further and further from the box), there is an equipment fault somewhere. A chart I found on distance vs Rates: Data Link Distance in Feet from Central office or Roadside "Box" Less than 5000 - You will have little trouble getting all speeds of DSL 5000-10600 - You may have trouble getting the highest
  20. He may be able to do that, but the efficiency of the storage sucks. The energy efficiency of water electrolysis varies widely. Reports range from 50–80% The reports I saw on it also state that the ultimate conversion efficiency is at approx 1.5v, anything higher than than drops the efficiency as heat begins to be generated. So there is the efficiency of the conversion of the voltage from the solar array down to 1.5v that must be configured. (And conversion of DC voltage efficiency must be considered also) Then you have to store the Hydrogen. Pumps and tanks all take energy to pla
  21. The problem with Wind and Solar production is the same problem that we have now: There must be enough backup capacity to cover the load if the sun's down and the wind stops at the same time. That means coal/gas/nuclear plants sitting idle waiting for that moment to occur. That's a lot of capital just sitting there costing money with no income. Not to mention, a power plant is not like your car, you don't turn the key and it's running, it can take hours to bring up to full power. So with Solar, the coal plant shuts down about 10:00 AM after the sun get's high enough to generate pow
  22. From ATT billing page: FastAccess® DSL Xtreme 6.0 Download Speed 6.0 Mbps Upload Speed 512 Kbps I got a letter from ATT saying Uverse is available here, I'm looking into that.
  23. I was hoping to head down there today.. but work got in the way. Did they happen to mention what gun show they are going to this weekend?
