  1. My only tears were tears of JOY Wore my Carolina shirt to the supermarket on Friday, got more crap (some good natured, some not) from Georgia fans than I've ever gotten. My response? Yes, I love my chickens. But guess what - no matter who wins, I will still get up the next morning and my little part of the world will be no different. It's a game in which I had no effect on the outcome, so I just don't feel the need (or right) to go around obnoxiously bragging about it. Now, if I were Marcus Lattimore or Stephen Garcia, it would be a much different story! Best part of it all is
  2. sure looks like her to me. I'd give my right arm to have skin as beautiful as hers (and I'll take that voice, too)
  3. ME TOO!!! Needless to say, I have never been the kind of friend who will hold your hair after you have too much fun at a party. If I did, you'd have to move over & make room for me
  4. Actually (and I can't believe I'm wading into this quagmire), the zealots/radicals/terrorists aren't following the full example of Mohammed. Like any extremist in any religion, they have picked & chosen the parts of the Koran that fit their way of thinking, twisting & interpreting until they get what they want, then they scream loud enough & often enough that people who can't be bothered to go beyond the sound bites & think for themselves assume they are speaking for the entire religion. Have I read the Koran? no. Have I at least tried to find out if what people say about
  5. Watching TV & hearing my brother say "let me hold that remote for a second please, I just want to check the score on _______". when I taught high school, hearing "you see what had happened was....." immediately sent my blood pressure up! hearing a knock on the door (back or front) when not expecting anyone, because the way the house is laid out, there is NO way to see who it is without them seeing you ...
  6. DITTO!!! I don't even like driving past it!
  7. Try www.vrbo.com (Vacation Rentals by Owner) I think the only 2 hotels on the beach are the Ocean Plaza & the Desoto Beach Hotel. There is a newer one called the Sea and Breeze hotel as well, I don't know if it is beachfront or not.
  8. Batman. Because he's so stinkin rich...and he has really cool toys
  9. NW would take it right into South Carolina Forecast models are still suggesting that it could end up tracking farther west. Even if it stays out at sea, this is a HUGE storm and even a glancing blow will cause problems. AND if anyone is planning on going to the beach on the east coast this weekend, STAY OUT OF THE WATER. These types of storms produce some NASTY rip currents even from hundreds of miles out.
  10. I remember David very well! I was 8. My mom & I were supposed to spend the weekend down at the Sheraton together, just me & her. Those plans got scratched. We didn't evacuate since we lived on the Southside (behind Oglethorpe Mall). We didn't have power for a week afterward, and it was HOT and MUGGY the whole time...ugh Savannah is so far overdue. After Floyd & Hugo turned away at the last minute, I think most people here have a bullet proof mentality. What people forget is that the area was hit 3 times in the 1890s, and 3 times in the 1940s. All it will take is for the Bermud
  11. I'd be right there in the bullseye with you and we are WAAAAYYYY overdue (last one was Labor Day weekend 31 years ago) this thing was supposed to turn more northerly long before now. The Chatham Emergency Management folks were thisclose to starting to evacuate folks with special needs this morning. Hopefully the fact that they didn't means it's starting to do what we hoped it would do... me too
  12. ahh...we have our ways! sorry to hijack your thread KRM! I know there have been lots of threads on here of people asking where to go / what to do in Savannah. When you know the dates you are coming let us know & I'll see what's going on around then (I know Oktoberfest is the first weekend in October )
  13. not me...I'll wear my flip flops & sandals until it's cold enough to make my feet turn blue...I hate shoes
  14. nah...you can usually tell who the locals are on the tours, they're the ones looking at each other saying "that's not what happened!", or they are like my Mom, who has no trouble correcting a tour guide! you'll also be the one saying "when did they build that?", and you know the correct pronunciations of the street names
  15. I dunno..all the tourists look alike to me
  16. don't know about which one is the best or such, but I'd be more inclined to take one of the walking tours. You can get a bit closer to everything, and there's just something way too cheesy (to me) to being on a tour in the back of an open air hearse If you're coming in a couple of months, you're pretty likely to have great weather, hopefully it won't be so danged hot by then (it's usually pretty nice here in the fall
  17. the fact that cleaning up houses like this, "hoarder houses", etc. is a BOOMING business tells me it is way more prevalent than I'd like to think about. these pictures are after the brother tried to clean up the place. the place was so bad that some of the cops had to come out & vomit off the front porch...
  18. Julie Hagerty was the stewardess in Airplane, who has to blow up the "autopilot" Billy Ocean sang "Caribbean Queen", "When the Going Gets Tough", "Get Out of My Dreams, Get Into my Car" (why in the heck do I know all this?????)
  19. Mac Davis Helen Reddy Leif Garrett Peter Frampton Shaun Cassidy David Cassidy Debbie Gibson Tiffany Menudo (all of them) Night Ranger Corey Hart Rick Springfield Jimmy McNichol Kristy McNichol Ralph Macchio C. Thomas Howell most anyone who was on the cover of Teen Beat and/or Tiger Beat in the 1980s
  20. My brother used to eat a bowl of cereal every morning. No biggie right? Well, his "bowl" was the lettuce keeper, yeah the one big enough to hold a head full of lettuce in the fridge. He ate us out of house & home, the only way mom could keep anything for lunches was to hide it in her closet, in a suitcase. He found it anyway, ate a whole box of little debbie oatmeal pies in one sitting. He's 35 now, I moved in with him a few months ago. I used to have enough leftovers to last 2 or 3 days when I cooked. Not anymore
  21. The fact that an adult is an ADULT (and that a teacher is a TEACHER) should be plenty reason enough to show basic respect. My great-grandmother was an evil, horrible, vile woman who never did anything to "earn" my respect, but I still said yes ma'am and no ma'am to her, and never cussed in her presence. Why? Because she was my elder, and I was raised to be respectful. Same with teachers I couldn't stand, who were mean and played favorites. It's just good manners, and they are FREE. As far as the situation the OP was talking about, sounds like classic elder abuse. I'd bet money the
  22. AMEN! My title is snug as a bug in a rug in my safe deposit box Mailed my last car payment 2 weeks before suddenly becoming unemployed. First thing I thought of was "at least I don't have to worry about a car payment!"
