  1. It's not legal to keep venomous snakes (See GA. Wildlife Dept. Regs) as pets in GA. They are listed under "exotics" , the main, but not sole danger (Cobras???) being the possibility of breeding in the wild.
  2. Go with it, Mark! If they pay you what you require and you pack the place for them - Win/Win! And then the good folks of PC will have the best Karaoke show around! Let "The Dugout" take care of accomodating the guests. Who wouldn't make room for paying customers? I'm betting that they can do it.
  3. It's not clear, but the stats seem to be related to AVERAGES, not raw numbers. In other words, Atlanta comes in lower than Dallas and Hiram, because there are so many people in Atlanta and relatively few in Dallas and Hiram. So pretty much ANY violent crime will cause the numbers in Paulding to spike, while it would take a wave of crime to spike the numbers in Atlanta. What is more telling than the averages (i.e. 1 in 21,500) is the number of crimes per square mile. IMO THERE'S your likelihood of being a victim. I also have an issue with the unspecified term, "violent crime" which doe
  4. Oh - and about a world war "HELPING"???? It helps in terms of population reduction. When you blow stuff up, new stuff has to be bought. True, it's bought with our tax dollars, but a behind-the-scenes view shows that this having perpetual wars is an economy in itself that, after a while, is self-perpetuating. Similar to the Congressmen, you will never find Generals who say, "We're done here - Send our soldiers back home to be with their families" because that would decrease their power. People who seek power do not seek power reduction for themselves. They always want more. Hence, our curr
  5. The answer about term limits is twofold. First, there's a fox guarding the henhouse situation involved with getting that legislation introduced. The very people whose power needs to be limited - Are the people who would vote on the legislation. They will never vote to limit their power (which is why, regardless of the rhetoric, government has never and will never get smaller). The other component is partisan political entrenchment, where constituents FOR NO REASON EVER, UNDER ANY CONDITION will vote for a member of the opposition party. It happens on both sides, hence most of the country being

  7. For the record, when it's my turn to go -- Mrs. Sirius has my blessing to get on with her life as soon as the pronouncement is made if it's a sudden event. If it's one of those "linger for years" situations, I'm fine with her making the most of her life as she sees fit. How about you folks? Are you fine (now) with your own spouse moving on immediately (when then happens)? Or would you rather that they do -- something else?
  8. What do you all think? I was friends with a fellow in high school. We had only reconnected a couple of times over the years and he had divorced and remarried during that time. Unfortunately, he developed cancer which was detected about six months ago or so. His wife dutifully stayed with him. and kept all of his friends aprised of her husband's condition. He passed a little over two weeks ago. So here's the grieving part. I was somewhat surprised to discover on FB that the wife (they had been married over a decade) has moved in with another fellow already. I'm not one to rush to judgment b
  9. Thanks, President Obama! I've heard that the country's economic situation is a referendum on the President's policies. If gas prices are down, housing starts and sales are up and retailers are holding their own, then it must be due to the President's leadership, if the critics who blamed him before were correct about the economy being a basis on which to judge the President. I've heard people blame the President for rising gas prices. Prices presently are falling as we enter the summer driving season, so -- again, the President's economic policies must be taking hold and turnin
  10. I'm pretty sure that arbitrary dates that foretell the "end of the world" are made without proper regard for the reality that in some parts of the world -- It's already tomorrow! Our measure of time is a man-made construct, of which everything else in the universe is unaware.

  12. I agree with you. It's a little bit like someone stopping for directions and somebody saying, "if you don't know where you're going, you shouldn't be driving!" Regarding a person carrying a firearm with little or no shooting experience -- If someone has an issue with that situation, they should summon up the spirits of the founding fathers, who thought that the right to keep and bear arms was for all citizens. Whether a person asks PCOM or Jeeves or calls the probate court -- what does it matter as long as the person seeks and gets the proper information? I can't tell you how many peopl
  13. With the award being so small, it seems likely that there are only a couple of benefactors. I think that it's a great idea! I'd suggest that the position-paper should be geared specifically at the "Conserve" aspect of conservatism. Like, "Explain what it means to live the life of a conservative, especially what is it that you plan to conserve?"
  14. Thermacell? I think that you can get it from Dick's. For clarification, Thermacell is a device that wards off biting insects. I didn't want you to think that it was an STD.
  15. Like a $500 "scholarship" would preclude the need for an educational loan???? $500???? No doubt. In ANY economy every penny counts. I just think that there aren't enough pennies to justify the description of "scholarship".
  16. $500? Sorry, but that's not much of a "scholarship". Maybe an "educational honorarium"?
  17. I think that one of the problems lies in the statement that Romney made - "Corporations are people". Because the inverse isn't true (people aren't corporations), "We, the people" in Romney-speak, are now "We, the Corporations". In other words citizenry-that-matters has been morphed into a money battle for power. Interestingly, nowadays corporations are worldwide and have interests that may not coincide with those interests that are uniquely American. Those uniquely American interests have already started diminishing to the point that Congressmen are openly taking payoffs from foreign corpora
  18. Here's another nautical phrase for you, DG: By-and-large http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/by-and-large.html Not to be confused with "Bi-and-Large".
  19. Here you go, DG! http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/batten-down-the-hatches.html
  20. Nope, It's your basic tax and spend Republicans. Sorry "FEE and spend" - big difference.
  21. It's a Perfect Storm! Batten down the hatches, assuming that you have a hatch to batten.
  22. What brought this on? The subtitle is backwards?
  23. She may need to start with a medical consultation to discuss all of her healthcare challenges. Along with her physical challenges, she may be suffering from clinical depression. If that is the case, then she will be more receptive, possibly even proactive, when it comes to developing a new life here in GA. Without a positive outlook toward the future, she is likely to experience increasingly serious health issues, not to mention presenting a possible relationship hurdle for the new dynamic.
