Would you allow people to buy you things -
eym_sirius replied to eym_sirius's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Well, sure myste! But you humor-topic was based on a degree of realism (otherwise, where's the humor, right?) where people WILL take money, gifts, etc, in exchange for access to them - whatever that means. People can be bought - and I'm not implying that you are one of those folks. -

I'm having trouble coming up with a single scenario in which a person could offer to buy me something to access me personally (as opposed to professionally) and it would be proper for me to accept it. Do you have any ideas, situations, etc in mind? -
Jobs are related to one thing only - demand for goods and services. Does anyone disagree with that assessment? Anyone?

Are you familiar with the world of politics? Politics extends beyond, but also includes, elected/appointed offices. People try to buy people's attention all of the time. A person's sex is only sometimes related to attempting to use other people or otherwise gain access to them, by appearing generous. -

I agree with DG, except for the (sigh) ! You can't buy friends or love or happiness for others. It would be an exercise in futility. Besides that, the premise assumed a desire for access..... -
A comment by another poster made me think - Can someone buy access to me with gifts ? Maybe it's a guy thing? Or an independent thing, I'm not sure. But I do know for sure that the answer is, "no", regarding personal social matters. I wouldn't accept gifts as a way of someone getting my attention. I can buy my own stuff, but I think that's beside the point, which is personal pride and ethics. If I like someone, it's not because of what the other person can do for me. How about you all?

The problem is that TRAINING advances leaped ahead of changes in the rules. The brain and spinal chord were not designed for intentional punishment. The skull protects us against some accidental falls, but violent, repeated, continual collisions with grown men who weigh over 300 pounds? The fact is that you'd have to change the game completely in order to avoid brain injuries and complications from modern-day football. The game today is not the same one that I played in college in the 70s. I no longer watch or have any interest in the sport at all. I've seen enough young men in their prim

Valentines day is almost here - Is there anyone here who does nothing for Valentine's Day? That is anyone who is in a committed relationship? No flowers, no cards no -- nothing???

Yes, they were thick around here when I was a kid. I grew up in DeKalb County and the woods near where we lived were full of plum trees, just like you described. We also made jelly from the fruit. I don't get out into the woods that much during summer anymore, so I'm not sure if the plum groves still flourish like they did back in the day or not!

About the serial reporters/complainers: There are certainly posts and reports that are valuable and/or insightful. Then you have the "complaining" (or the equivalent misogynistic epithet) posts. Some posters probably consider their posts/reports to be the former category, unaware that everyone else considers them to be the latter Oh -- there is another category -- the "citizen's arrrraaayyyuuuhhhsssttt" category.

I've stayed away from this topic mostly because on its face it seemed stupid. But -- I hadn't looked into it that thoroughly. Tonight, I looked at the issue thoroughly. I was right. It's stupid. -

I'm glad that you're taking the position that life doesn't start at conception. You are making real strides, LTD! But you're right - it's where he was born, of course, when he entered the world in the usual way. In Hawaii. -
Yes - that's why I did the little quote thingees....

Wasn't Obama's Mama in Hawaii when she got pregnant? What difference would it make WHO the father was (are we going to start requiring paternity tests?)? The mom was an American citizen and especially if she got pregnant in Hawaii and the President was born in Hawaii - What's the deal? It's already been settled! -

What's funny is that I thought that I had made that "tale" up years ago! I didn't know that it was an urban myth!!

My kids didn't sag. If they had, I would have communicated to them the history of sagging. The young people are copying what they saw prisoners do because they thought that it implied toughness. Actually, it's not, See, in prison there's little opportunity for sexual encounters and the signal that you're available is that you have your pants halfway down already and the deed can be done more quickly, before the guards come around. So THAT'S what the sagging is all about . If a young man insists on sagging, tell him he only needs a tube of vaseline to complete his look!

Right - there's a liability issue. Besides -- what would be the upside for the school? A church member might be able to get the church to allow this, but again, the permission should be written so that it can be produced for anyone who is looking into why a group is gathering somewhere. In any event, the group should have a clean-up crew to make sure that the area is not trashed when they leave.

No, PRIVATE PROPERTY is not a great place, unless you have written permission to be there.
-
That's private property! If there's a meeting that involves some sort of money exchange for goods, I'm pretty sure that the local businesses wouldn't appreciate a group meeting there regularly in their parking lot when they are not there for business with the merchants. However, most strip centers have a management office. Wherever this meeting of people would take place, it needs to be with written permission if it's private property. A public park would be a better option and some public parks have a covered area with several picnic tables for small group events. Those areas can be rese
