I agree. The only contention that I have is with Mr. Cathey putting out his PERSONAL bigotry as a statement of corporate policy. He can say that "bi-gott" (where the word bigot comes from) gays shouldn't marry. That's different from the COMPANY saying that gays shouldn't marry. CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PEOPLE, my friends!Of course (((((he's))))) a bigot! The Company shouldn't have bigotry, though, as a corporate governance model. -

Why do you think that a straighforward reply to a nonsensical statement was "sexist"? Why "sexist"? I don't know who is a he and who is a her, so it's a little difficult to make a sexist statement without that knowledge! -

But it's NOT a bible-thumping business. The place doesn't have bible verses all over the walls or christian music playing. The company doesn't hand out religious tracts or even "god-bless" everyone who comes there. It's THIS ONE ISSUE, which is why I'm saying "homophobia" because THE COMPANY is taking a position on this ONE ISSUE and no other. -

That's what I'm saying! In this case, Chik-Fil-A sells fried chicken. If they're also selling homophobia -- or any kind of phobia -- I'm not buying! -

There is a fundamental difference between a person's beliefs and the CORPORATE GOVERNANCE of the organization. Besides that, there's no official position on teen age sex (for instance)! Why would he come out against homosexuals, if his intent is to show "moral uprightness"? Wouldn't he then be in favor of the biblical principle of the equality of all sins and letting the one without sin cast the first stone? It's homophobia. Corporate homophobia. My position is that I don't want to be lumped in with a group of haters. If you don't mind, that's on you. -

How about Lust? How about coveting? How about diddling your neighbor's wife? (not necessarily YOUR neighbor's wife). Why this ONE? And why don't they speak out LOUDLY against high schoolers having sex before marriage??? Why isn't that as bad to them, the company, as homosexual marriage? Why in the world would they choose THAT issue, if they are okay with homosexuality? If there's a "biblical principle" involved -- wouldn't it be taking a firm stand against all "sins of the flesh"??? Here's why they don't -- On a percentage basis, gays are a small fraction of their potential customers. So -

Whether Mr. Cathey PERSONALLY is homophobic or not is irrelevant. But as President and COO of Chik-Fil-A, he's announcing policy for the entire chain! When he says, "we, here at chik-fil-a believe....." -- that is a statement of corporate governance, no longer just a personal belief. When he institutes a statement of principles or beliefs FOR THE CHAIN, and those statements are discriminatory of homosexual relationships (because, duh, they are homosexual) then that position indicates a CORPORATE dislike, disgust and/or FEAR of homosexuals and the possible relationships that they might ente -

Okay - Let's go with THAT headline: "Chick-fil-A president says company opposes gay marriage" So one more time --- What is the COMPANY interest in adopting ANY discriminatory position? They give the customers chicken. The customers give them money for the chicken. That's it. Where is the company's interest in the PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS of the customers??? Not Mr. Cathey's beliefs -- The CORPORATE GOVERNANCE MODEL indicates that they discriminate against gay marriage, calling it wrong and, by inference, that those people are SINNERS. Their CUSTOMERS! Please note that the company doesn't "co -

Homophobia isn't a christian belief. Or it is, which would render "biblical principles" obsolete. It is or it isn't -- take your pick! -

Did you read where I said that it was disingenuous of Mr. Cathey to indicate that the company's position did not affect hiring practices, etc (paraphrasing)? Mr. Cathey is the PRESIDENT/COO of Chik-Fil-A. Chik-Fil-A released its "OWN STATEMENT?? The statement from Mr. Cathey WAS its own statement of policy! The subsequent statement was a walk-back to cover their backsides against potential lawsuits. What I'm saying is that the later statement came from the lawyers to keep Chik-Fil-A from getting sued by customers and employees. It would have helped if Mr. Cathey, who sets company polic -

So you think that it's not a calculated move on the part of Chik-Fil-A? That's what I think. It IS free advertising, but I'm not sure that "boycott" is the response that you want from free advertising. -

You're the one who is indicating that a RESTAURANT has an interest in the personal relationships of its customers. Chik-Fil-A is not my customer, so it's not a reciprocal relationship. In other words, that restaurant chain can't withhold its support of ME, but I can withhold support of it due to its discriminatory practices. I realize that this is a lot for you to process at one time. JSYK, there is no such biblical principle. It's plain old-fashioned homophobia/discrimination. It's true that as long as we live within the law, we can live as we want. As long as Chik-Fil-A obeys the laws, -

Let's try reading for comprehension this time! ["I don't begrudge Mr. Cathey his personal beliefs! However, we're not talking about PERSONAL -- We're talking about a corporate belief and culture!"] For his personal beliefs, I have no interest in what he personally believes. However, I do have an interest in corporate beliefs and practices, which should not take the form of discriminatory language FROM THE CORPORATION. I choose to not side with a group that includes, but is not limited to haters. Since Chik-Fil-A is a business, the only way that I can show my displeasure is through withh -

I'm still a little fuzzy on the interest that a chicken restaurant has in the personal relationships of its customers. They sell fried chicken and the customer buys it. You mentioned "bible principles". Which ones are you talking about, specifically? And what interest does a restaurant chain have in determining the "correctness" of the personal relationships of others? Why is it any of their business? If it's biblical, provide some kind of link information that speaks to this issue. -

"Most People"? Where do you get your information? One of the great things about the information age is that you should be able to provide qualifying links with just a click or two! I suspect that it's just a way to attempt to give your point some needed credibility. But I'll give you a chance to provide one of those link thingees. Doesn't it go without saying that the reason that this corporation is anti-gay marriage is because they are anti-gay? If they didn't believe that being in a gay relationship was to be judged as "wrong", would they oppose marriage between two consenting adults? A -

I contend that stand your ground isn't limited to gun use. If Trayvon Martin had cause to think that his life was in danger when a gun-toting Zimmerman chased him down because he was black and wearing a hoodie, then Mr. Martin could have been justified in SHOOTING Mr. Zimmerman, but he wasn't justified in striking him because he had no gun? I'd say that "stand your ground" just means that you don't have to retreat when you're attacked. That would seem to apply more to Mr. Martin than Mr. Zimmerman, irrespective of which one of them was armed. -

It surprises me! Here's the relationship that the store has with the customer: The customer gives the store money and the store gives the customer fried chicken. In what part of this transactional relationship is the person's personal relationship status germaine? I don't begrudge Mr. Cathey his personal beliefs! However, we're not talking about PERSONAL -- We're talking about a corporate belief and culture! It is disingenuous of Mr. Cathey to proclaim against a certain personal relationship on a corporate level and then indicate that no discrimination results from it. I understand
