  1. I loved Gone Girl (well, I loved the book, but HATED the ending). Cutting For Stone is a good book, and the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a very good book
  2. We usually get ours at Sam's. They sell them two to a pack. They are usually between 14 - 16 pounds total for both butts.
  3. If you feel like driving to Marietta, I highly recommend Thaicoon sushi. It's amazing (right off the square). recently, I was too lazy to make the drive and my husband and I tried Taki. It was good as well, but nothing beats Thaicoon in my opinion
  4. Tonight we're having turkey chili that I cooked on Sunday. It's a bit of prep work, but not bad if you do it on a weekend and eat it during the week http://healthandwellnessclub.com/features/articletype/articleview/articleid/247/low-fat-turkey-chili I also make chicken breasts coated in French's fried onions. Very easy to make. I usually prep them the night before and stick them in the oven when I come home from work. Takes 30 mins to cook - the recipe is on the can (basically, crush the onions with some flour and coat the chicken and bake)
  5. Ugh. I know we need rain but I have to drive about 70 miles on Wednesday and 50 miles on Thursday for work. I hope it stays away
  6. I live near that area and there are always a ton of accidents at that intersection. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that if you are driving east on Bill Caruth (towards Dallas, etc) and you try to make a left, there is a terrible blind spot because the cars coming west are driving uphill and it's hard to see them. THere are also accidents because people making a right onto Hiram Sudie have to yield to the drivers making a left and it's hard to see them. I absolutely hate that intersection.
  7. I'm having a smoked pork chop from Patak's and hubby is having leftover smoked ribs. And we have some corn on the cob too.
  8. I'm not a member (too young) but both my parents were members, and the most valuable thing they got through AARP was supplemental medical insurance. It covered everything that Medicare didn't cover. My mother had some major health issues and didn't have to pay anything because of that supplemental insurance.
  9. April - We have Greystone too, and we switched to average billing. It's helped in the summer. I'm sure it will be more in the spring/fall then it usually is, but it's been about $375 the last two months, which is less than it usually is in the summer.
  10. Vet: We love East Paulding Animal Hospital Dentist : we love Austell Dental Associates
  11. I second Fusco's in Acworth. It is delicious. I also like Aspens in West Cobb a lot. If you want to travel a bit but stay out of Atlanta, try the Old Vinnings Inn in Vinnings. There's also South City Kitchen near there which is good as well.
  12. Just wanted some opinions on the hotel and the area and things to do while we're up there (my husband doesn't hike :-) ). My husband and I are considering going for 2 nights for Labor Day weekend. Thanks! Valerie
  13. I would love a Trader Joes and a Whole foods.
  14. My husband and I (also NY transplants) love Tasty China in Marietta. It's a bit of drive from Hiram but worth it. They have a lot of authentic szuchean food (like intestines, etc) but they also have a lot of the "american" chinese food. I'm addicted to their sauteed green beans with minced pork and olives.
  15. onion coated chicekn breasts, steamed squash, tomato salad.
  16. We are having oven baked chicken, steamed broccoli, and grape tomatoes with marinated with salt, pepper and lime juice (couldn't resist buying them in Aldi's for $0.69 a pint)
  17. Aspens at the Avenues in West Cobb has a great buffet brunch
  18. We're having onion baked chicken (use the French's fried onions to coat the chicken and bake - it's delicious), steamed brussel sprouts and grilled tomatoes
  19. I save and re-use for leftovers. My freezer is full of them. When Marty first moved down and I was commuting back and forth, he asked me if I could bring him some of those containers from NY because he got them all the time in NY when he got food delivered, but he never ordered in food down here, so he was running low. I didn't feel like packing containers in my luggage, so i went online and ordered him a case :-) I think at one point we had about 300. LOL. Now it's 4 years later, and our supply is dwindling (gave to friends, or just had to throw away after a lot of use). I literally use
  20. I would love a Trader Joes and a Whole Foods. Right now, it takes me at least 50 minutes to get to the TJ in East Cobb. I'm addicted to their pot stickers and granola bars. I would also love to see more independent, non-chain restaurants. I went out to Little Five Points a few weeks ago, and it was so refreshing to see little cafes, restaurants, tapas bars, all on the same street. My dream is to have an Alon's here, like they have in Atlanta. www.alons.com
  21. We are trying a new recipe - turkey stuffed peppers, and steamed string beans
  22. My DVR is set to record it. It's gotten great reviews
  23. Does anyone have the contact information for the City of Hiram Attorney? Thanks! Valerie
  24. We had "onion chicken" and steamed broccoli. Basically just crush french's fried onions with some flour and coat chicken breasts and bake in oven for 30 minutes (recipe is on the onion container). It's sooo easy and sooo good.
