  1. Ours dropped $21000. Upside down is an understatement. Since it looks like we will be here forever I guess we need to figure out a plan to turn our starter home into our dream home.
  2. When I pulled out from Nebo a couple of weeks ago a car almost got me. He didn't even slow down. I had to slam on my brakes and he just kept on going... pure idiots are dangerous. I am not sure how this big boy ended up in this predicament. Maybe he was turning from Nebo onto 61 and cut too short. If his trailer got in that ditch it would flip him on his side like that.
  3. Another view. My cell phone picture is a little fuzzy...I don't know why. Definitely avoid that intersection for a while.
  4. Since we are transplants all of our family (both sides) are in Kentucky. I got up there several times a year to stay with my mom and most of the trips are 3-4 days. If my husband goes with me he has 3 day rule. After that everyone seems to just start getting on his nerves.
  5. I have already had my share of chiggers this year. Note to self...don't wear your gown out to the koi pond in the morning.
  6. I don't have a problem paying for the service and expect to pay more for a detail oriented person. I agree that windows are a pain...that is why I don't want to do it myself. I have been telling myself for the last 2 years that I will clean the windows when I have a few days off, but every time I get a few days off I can think of hundreds of things that I would rather be doing.
  7. I don't think this should be moved to the school vent since I was not venting about any particular school but education in general. That is not to say that I think that the school here are comparable to many of the other schools across the nation, but that was not my argument in this thread.
  8. 3 bedrooms and two baths. Standard split level home with about 1800 square feet. The windows would be a one time thing of course I wouldn't expect them to be done every time. I want someone who pays attention to detail.
  9. It is sad that something like this has to exist. I think that our educational system needs to get back to basics. kids in K-3rd grade should focus solely on reading, writing and math. Handwriting should be taught at the very early ages. No child left behind should mean that NO child, regardless of age, goes past 3rd grade until they have mastered basic reading skills, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. To me this is just common sense and I can't wrap my mind around a system that does not function this way. There is plenty of time after 3rd grade to learn science, social
  10. What is a fair price to pay for this? Clean 2 bathrooms Clean kitchen (including wiping all cabinets and stuff on top of cabinets) Dust everything including blinds in each room vacuum or mop all floors clean baseboards clean windows and window sills inside I am looking into finding someone to do this for me about 2 times each month, but I don't know what a fair price is.
  11. South was truly a nightmare last year. Hopefully they learned something and things will get better. I was lucky because I worked there so I had a parking space. However, it still took nearly an hour to get to the parking lot from my house, normally a ten minute trip. I was also there early so I got to see my son graduate. Some people didn't get to see their kids graduate because they had to park and shuttle and didn't allow for the time it actually takes. Like the others said, go early...I can't stress that enough. Take cushions to sit on too. The bleachers get hard!
  12. Ticks are bad this year. Really bad. But I don't think you should be worried if he was crawling on you. That means he didn't bite you. You have to be bitten to contract Lyme disease or other tick borne infections. I also have to say that I grew up playing outside in the woods and in the country and I cannot even being to count the number of times I have found ticks on me, crawling and stuck. It is really very rare to contract a disease from them. However, you should make a note on your calendar if you get bitten. That way, in the rare circumstance that you become sick in the next few w
  13. I would certainly hate to think that all of my bad decisions as a teenager were going to be what people looked for on a resume. Jeeze...he's a kid...he did something stupid...he's paying for it....get over it!
  14. I have had this discussion a lot with my the people that I work with at the hospital. Almost all of them feel the same way that you do, but from a parent's perspective I can understand doing everything to say your child. What a terrible awful situation these people are in. I know they were at the ER 3 times before the diagnosis and maybe if it had been diagnosed earlier she may have had a better outcome, but it is such a rare diagnosis that it is hard to blame the doctors for not seeing it. I am not sure if she was or was not given early intervention antibiotics when she the wound was firs
  15. My pest contral guy told me that if you sprinkle ground up moth balls around the perimeter of your yard then you will not have any snakes coming in. The down side is there will also be no frogs, lizards, etc. You need to make sure you don't already have them in your yard though because they will be trapped in. He also suggested that this be done outside the fence so your pets are not exposed. I have not tried it because I really like my lizards and frogs but if I see a snake in my yard that may change my mind. Part of our property is woods and a creek and I have seen snakes there this y
  16. I read it half way through and then started another book and never finished it. I could see there was a story line somewhere in there but if you took away all the very descriptive sex scenes the book could have been written in about 3-4 pages. My opinion was that it was the shock factor that kept me reading it as long as I did.
  17. Ahhh...a fellow Kentuckian. We grow them right there.
  18. I aam not going to weigh in on the "blessings" part of the conversation but I am glad to hear about your friend getting help because of her. Did they find the same bacteria in his body? I work at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton where she was initially treated so she has been a very big topic of conversation there. The theme of the conversations often turns to the question 'Would you want to wake up and have not hands and legs?' Most people said they would not but everyone seems to understand the parent's will to keep her alive at any cost. It is such a tragic situation. If she has
  19. I have not seen anything on PCom about her. Maybe I missed it. This is a terrible and scary story of a young beautiful local girl that has made international news...yes international. I am so inspired by her father's faith and upbeat attitude. Here is the brief timeline: Aimee’s timeline, in brief: 5/1/12 Tuesday: Zip line accident Tuesday- Thursday: multiple visits to hospital and doctors 5/4/12 Friday: necrotizing fasciitis takes over leg, leg is amputated, goes into arrest, transferred hospitals Since Friday: on life support Earlier this week slowly regains consc
  20. I am not for or against breast feeding. I breast fed one of my sons and not the other. (not my choice, it just didn't work out) I bonded with each of my sons equally. It is the mother's choice. Having said all of that, I see no reason for a 3 year old to still be breastfeeding. When any mammal is able to masticate their own food the mother stops nursing. I think the "attachment parenting" is more for the mother's benefit.
  21. I started 50 Shades a couple of days ago when I finished the Hunger Games series. (which coincidentally I did not find that great) I made it about half way though 50 shades and just stopped reading. I am not a prude but there is only so much kinky sex I want to read in a book before there starts to be a plot and I could not find the story there at all.
  22. We used Child Neurology Assoc. for years until my boys were no longer peds. Dr. Goldstein is the neurologist that was saw. They are a really great team, located across the street from Children's of Atlanta.
  23. Don't trust 'em...not the people on the list but the list itself. I know there are some really bad people on that list who have done some really bad things but as someone else said, that list is absolutely flawed.
  24. The crooks are getting braver all the time. But, I guess the cops were just hanging out together in the same area becuase they had nothing else to do. I suppose that is a good thing. As fara as quotas...that was and is not the intention of this topic. My curiosity was the only motivation. OH...I am sorry for all the typos in my post too. I was using my phone and those dang little keys are hard to hit.
