  1. Seems like a good way to cover up an epidemic that the government can't explain. I think this would keep "higher functioning" people from getting the help that they need. Autism and Aspergers are both real and both can be VERY disabling. As a parent of a young man with Aspergers it is harder than most people know. Looking at my son he is handsome, extemely intelligent, and well mannered. To most people they see absolutely no disability. No one knows how hard it is for him to keep up that appearance. He has an internal struggle going on every minut of every day. While most of us can
  2. How cool is it to have a Waffle house right in your church parking lot?
  3. Shew! I was hoping you were not one of those little Johnny supporters. I have read many posts of yours and thought that was definitely out of character! Carry on!!!
  4. Are you being sarcastic? Luring people to his home under false pretenses so that he could scare/threaten them seems like something he should be arrested for to me. I suppose it would have been more "fair" to let him continue until he got the nerve to actually harm or kill someone.
  5. Sounds like this boy was working his way up to being very dangerous. Using Craigslist ot hone his predatory skills. I am glad that he was caught before he got the nerve and opportunity to physically harm or kill someone. Sounds like he is someone sho needs to stay on the radar.
  6. My family was full of readers. I spent many, many hours in the lap of my Grandaddy while he read stories to me. My mom also read lots of stories to me. My most precious and favorite stories were my Grandmas. When i spend the night with her she would let me sleep in the bed with her. Before I went to sleep she would ask me what I wanted to hear a story about. I would usually pick some of our pets and she would make a story up. She was SO good at it.
  7. OnceI got my phlebotomy cert. the rest went pretty quickly. At my age, I couldn't afford to take my time. I would love to work in a doctor's office as a MA, but I am hoping that I love this too. I REALLY enjoyed going to school so I will probably continue to take classes. I may try the LPN route. I figure once I am working in the hospital I can see what looks interesting and just do it.
  8. I agree. I may have to have an agent orange today myself.
  9. Awesome! I hope I like my new job as much as you like yours.
  10. I went yesterday but didn't get very much because 25% off is still more than I regularly pay and I do most of my shopping at Publix. I know people think Publix is high but if you stock up on things when they are BOGO and get the things you have coupons for you can come out pretty good. I usually pick up meat at Sam's though. I really hate to go to Walmart or Kroger anymore.
  11. True. I hope my boys find jobs this quickly when they are finished with college. I did work at it though. I have probably sent over 100 resumes since November.
  12. I was not lactose intolerant before surgery but I sure am now. But, like you, I can eat yogurt. I can also eat cheese (thank goodness). Cereal and milk together make me feel like I am dying. B12 is the only vitamin I have to take (except iron when mine gets low). After almost 10 years I can eat normal portions too. This means that I have to really watch what I eat so that I don't gain more weight back. The one thing that really irritates me about having this surgery is the way other people treat you afterwards. They sometimes make really mean comments about losing weight the "easy" wa
  13. True. The safety of the drug would have to be proven to me first. It could come back to bite her otherwise.
  14. I feel your pain. I have a 2009 car that developed a squeak (styrofoam sound like you are describing) I have taken it several times to see if it oculd be fixed and nothing works. It will go away for a day or so and then come right back. Mine is coming fromt he dash. My son shoved a piece of plastic in a crack between the door and the dash and it works for a while and then shimmies itself out and I have to shove it back. I know it is not a serious issue but if you are like me it seems like it. I have some kind of weird sensitivity to background noises. I hear things other people don't(f
  15. Some of you might remember that I had an interview before Christmas at Tanner Medical Center. Last week I got a call asking if I might be interested in a different position than I applied for. Since I am trying to get my foot in the door I said yes...of course. They called my references and did a background check. Just when I was starting to think they had hired someone else, they called yesterday to officially offer me the position!!! I am psyched and a little nervous. I have spent the last 13 years working mainly in education. Last year was my youngest son's last year of high s
  16. I also had the same surgery in 2003. I lost 150 lbs. and gained back 30 but have maintained that for the last 6 years. I am healthier than before surgery but it did come with it's obstacles. My surgery was open because lap surgery was somewhat new for that particaular surgery at the time. I had to have an incisional hernia repair which was more painful and harder to recover from than the original surgery. I had my gallbladder out soon afterwards as well. I struggle with anemia but I am lucky that so far I can control it with supplements instead of the transfusions that many other people
  17. I hope the weather holds out for you. I have been watching to see how you do because I have a garage full of boxes just waiting for me to have a yard sale.
  18. Oh good grief. I have type 2 diabetes and I bake cakes, cookies and other confections for folks. I don't think of it as selling people my diabetes. They do not have to buy them or eat them. If the Food Network asked me to bake for a show I would jump on it and if a diabetic medicine asked me to promote them (and I felt it was helping me) I would take their millions too. Why not?
  19. The day after my husband got a ticket for crossing into the gore too soon I saw one sitting in the gore. I wanted to jump out and yell, "Citizen's Arrest".
  20. I don't think the crime rate has changed much but the things that they are stealing have shifted into the everyday items. Jewelry, electronics, money and that sort of thing may bot be worth as much on the market as jeans and hair. I find that to be weird. I think this says a lot about our society.
  21. I think that it often starts out with someone who feels powerless or out of control of themselves. The kind of men you speak of didn't start with murder and rape. They may have even started as children doing small things and getting away with it. Many of them seem to want to be loved and respected in their families and communities so the heinous things that they do are the polar opposite of the person they portray themselves to be. I just believe that the more they do and get away with the more powerful they feel until they finally get the feeling of being unstoppable, then their crimes w
  22. When I was growing up there was the occasional bank robbery, convience store robbery, mugging, shoplifting etc. These days the criminals are busting windows to steal hair extensions, shoes and jeans. We need to think about this. When did we, as a society, start paying so much for hair and clothing that robbers could make a big profit from stealing it? I just heard on WSB that the latest robbery was a smash and grab for several pairs of jeans that sell for almost 250.00 a pair!!!! REALLY? They would not sell for that if people were not buying them. I am all for being fashionable but I am
  23. Parents are the people who should be teaching kids to say no. The school is responsible for teaching them health. That includes body parts, STD's and pregnancy. Of course the parents need to know hwat they are teaching so they can follow up with the, "You know, we do not expect you to have sex." talk.
  24. I love that you know his name is Maxwell. My son told me the other day that was his name and I had to look it up to see. I had never noticed that he was called anything.
  25. You are absolutely right. If the wheel isn't squeaking it won't get greased.
