Genetically Modified Grains - What's your take on them?
MrsB replied to surepip's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Not everything is organic, we can't afford it. But, I buy as much as I can. Almost everything BabyB eats is organic, for sure. I'm going to make a run to Trader Joes next week to stock up. Also, Kroger has a line called "Simple Truth Organic", and it is reasonably priced. It's about the same or just a bit more than national brand. I'm in love with their peanut butter finally an organic peanut butter that's good! -

Thanks, lady I've made other changes as well, but I'm on my phone and it's hard to type it all out. Lol For those interested, here is a link containing a list of "high risk" foods (most likely GMO): http://www.nongmoproject.org/learn-more/what-is-gmo/ And, also keep in mind there have been no trials or studies on human consumption. Why is it okay for us to be guinea pigs, so the politicians and folks at Monsanto can get rich? -
Genetically Modified Grains - What's your take on them?

This is true. I have switched to organic or have using something else instead of things that most likely would contain GMO. I've switched from using canola cooking oil to using coconut oil most recently. I only buy organic corn, no high fructose corn syrup, very few processed foods, and organic peanut butter. Food cannot be labeled organic if it contains GMOs. But chances are high that we are still eating food containing GMO since its not labeled. Monsanto has done a great job of lining politicians' pockets. And I don't believe GMOs have anything to do with being able to feed the world -
Genetically Modified Grains - What's your take on them?

^this. I am very anti-GMO. Think of it this way: the corn you buy at the store has been modified so it can be sprayed with round up and NOT die. It is drinking Round Up, aka "Round Up Ready Corn". There are other crops that are Round Up Ready: soy, sugar beets, canola, etc. Folks, do your research! If you want to eat it, go ahead, but as for me and mine we won't. I don't buy anything i think may contain GMOs, but without labeling this is very hard. We've switched to organic as much as possible, but I for sure don't buy corn unless its organic. Also, what kind of havoc is this wreaking -
I know. MrB is shocked every week at what I get for the amount of money I spend. He couldn't figure it, and thought I was buying items that were too expensive. So, I made him go to Kroger to buy all of his lunches for work himself. It was a huge eye opener for him. He hasn't been to the grocery store since the Kroger in Hiram was still open.

No, it's all going up. Ive noticed it as well. I was looking for chicken at Publix and I didn't want to pay 2.99/lb, the butcher saw me price comparing and asked if he could help me. When I told him of my dilemma, he, in a very nice way, pretty much told me to get used to it and to brace myself - it was about to go up again. This was several weeks ago.

Ack! I found one in my bedroom the other day! MrB thought I'd stumbled upon an intruder the way I screamed and carried on, lol.

Yes, this.

This. We bought a house with an above ground pool, with the intentions of probably taking it out. We decided to see how it was the first summer (cost, usage, maintenance, etc.) it has a very nice deck built around it, with a fence around he deck and a locking gate. We are on septic, and the previous owners had originally wanted an in ground, but couldn't due to the tank/lines, etc. The pool and deck ended up more than the in ground. So consider that if you're going to do above ground only to see if you want an in-ground.... The maintence for mine is the same as an in ground, and we have a chlo

How? I need to lose 10!! BabyB eats around 5, and then MrB and I eat between 6:30&7. BabyB can't wait to eat when MrB gets home, that's too late for him. He's starving at 5. Lol
-
No you didn't. However, in he meantime for those that are trying to get away from GMOs, etc, Kroger has a line called Simple Truth Organic. I may be wrong, so please correct me if I am, to be labeled "organic", the product must not have any GMO ingredients. Nevertheless, read your labels, folks. And do some research.

They are good people. She let me bring BabyB over one day to feed the ducks

That is sad. When I say "career" I just mean that I was a GS for a long time. I have very find memories of it, but most of the things we did was as "friends" and not as a GS troop as the council really didnt allow us to do a lot of things. Not fun things, anyway.
-
I'm not sure what your story is, but at any rate it must be sad. I may not agree with everything the Boy Scouts do, but all in all it's a good organization. Maybe I feel this way since I was almost a career Girl Scout...

Have a roast in the crock pot with carrots, red potatoes, and onions. That and rolls. Maybe corn, too. -
Thanks, General. I had no idea there was hydrogen used... I have been checking the news outlets and nothing had been specific.
