  1. I'm a little old fashioned. I think that what should matter in your job is your ability to do the job.
  2. To be fair, it isn't just Paulding. It happens everywhere. Yes, even East Cobb, Buckhead and places like Hilton Head. It isn't uncommon. Unfortunately.
  3. My credit card was used fraudulently in 1995. I reported it to the store where it happened and they took it from there. The young man was found guilty of credit card fraud and sent to jail.
  4. Same here except I have voted Democrat. Yeah, I was young and foolish and easily swayed by the good looking candidate with the understanding, forgiving wife.
  5. We've seen an airboat or two around here but they are few and far between. Carolina Skiff and anything that's pontoon is the big thing around here. I've never been one for boats but since we got one I love going on. Best thing next to flying. Can't wait to spot the first gator of the season.
  6. If I were younger, I'd join the Air Force or try to be a Navy pilot. I just love aircraft and wish I'd learned to fly when I had the chance. Now, the best I can do is look at the choppers as they fly over. Every 2 minutes on some days.
  7. That's a great picture!! The only picture I have managed to get was one going away from me and at a pretty good distance. They are freaky looking aircraft but I do love seeing them.
  8. We love seeing those things. They are neater than you-know-what. They are called Osprey. They have several of them based at Hurlburt AFB which is about 25 miles southeast of us.
  9. Yet, many continue to be fooled into thinking the ACA is the best thing to come down the pike since sliced bread. I like to refer to those folks as those who don't have a policy purchased from the Exchange.
  10. One of the few times I ever went somewhere willingly with my older sister was to Six Flags to see Mac Davis in concert. And now I'll have that song in MY head for the rest of the evening. Gee thanks!
  11. Those of you who "know" how the Exchange works and what those insurance policies pay, do you actually HAVE first-hand experience at getting a plan through the exchange and going to the doctor with it?
  12. Laurie, why would I go through the exchange because of pre-existing when ALL insurance companies must provide coverage to those with pre-existing conditions? I went through the exchange thinking #1--I could qualify for some assistance and #2--thought policies there would be cheaper. I did look at coverage from other companies, without going through the exchange and the policies were almost identical and the selection of doctors was virtually the same. I chose the particular plan I got because my orthopaedist and primary care doctors were both in-network. It wasn't the cheapest plan bu
  13. That is certainly nowhere near all the Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans available. Apparently there are plans that are JUST created for sale on the Exchange, i.e., Obamacare.
  14. Doesn't surprise me. What does surprise me is that it is "Obamacare" that has caused it. There are so many plans available on the Exchange it is difficult, if not impossible, to call one "Obamacare" and not another one. However, the office staff at my orthopaedists office knew exactly where I got my insurance. And yes, it came from the Exchange.
  15. Would not surprise me. As I stated earlier, one of the finest hospitals in the area is not on my insurance, which was purchased on the Exchange. One of the finest specialty facilities in the country is not on my insurance. They have a couple of doctors on staff who are but they don't have privileges at the hospitals that are in-network.
  16. Here is an actual example of how providers are being reimbursed. I had private insurance for which I paid $433 a month. I had a mammogram on 12/30/2013. The hospital did the mammogram and their radiologist on staff read it. What they billed: $658.66 What my insurance paid: $108.10. My insurance paid just slightly more than 16.4% of the bill. Considering the average salary of a radiologist is $170 an hour, they didn't get paid enough to cover his wages. Never mind the equipment, supplies, the building, the upkeep and the time of the mammogram tech. Once aga
  17. I'm with you. I'm 59, hubby is 63 (almost). We sure as hell better not have a baby and we certainly don't have kids at home. Why should we pay extra for health coverage that includes that? We won't be using it. As to the mental health, well, that's debatable. Seriously, I looked at the "hospital" provider list for my insurance. Two hospitals, one long term care facility and a mental health treatment center. That's IT. Some of the finest health providers in the entire country are not in-network. This actually broke my heart. I had planned for 3 years to have my knee surgery by
  18. The feds are punishing the citizens of the states that did not expand Medicaid. If you qualify for Medicaid under the ACA even if you DO NOT QUALIFY on the state level (for whatever reason--namely you have too much in assets or you make too much money ..and yes, $7.55 an hour would be too much), you should not be punished. My daughter and son in law are in the same position. He's working two part-time jobs so they don't qualify for anything. But they can't afford health insurance. It's more difficult in Florida to qualify for Medicaid. Apparently the girls do qualify for the Florida
  19. Wow. A $4000 deductible. Wish mine was that low. Rest assured, if that quote for a family of 4 at about $525 is through the exchange, more than likely has a huge deductible and only "preventive" care is not part of the deductible. If you're mostly healthy, all you will ever do is pay the premium. You'll never pay enough to reach your deductible. The only times EVER I have met my deductible, even when it was just $1500, was when I had surgery. Was I glad I had the insurance? Oh absolutely. Let's do the math. My insurance is $496 and change per month. I got it in February.
  20. But the insurance companies backed the ACA 100%, dumping billions of lobbyist money into wining and dining our Congress-weasels into passing the law.
  21. Explain to me how doing without things you need in order to pay for health insurance is better. Just because you paid the premium doesn't mean you're done paying. Not by a long shot. There's an equal, or greater, amount you have to pay in deductibles before the insurance will pay the first dime unless it is for preventive care. And guess what, darn near everything is NOT preventive. This country doesn't believe in preventing disease but instead of throwing money at the pharmaceutical companies and taking a pill, whether one is necessary or not. Explain to me how having more people
  22. I guess there would be no point to stating that #1--Bill Clinton is a Democrat. #2--his wife Hillary wanted to institute nationalized health care/socialized medicine. #3--he left office in 2001, a decade before the ACA aka Obamacare was enacted. Thank God, someone other than Bush is getting blamed this time.
  23. I am so happy to know that I finally made it to the group who "have to come of the hip". Now, if my income would just substantiate that, I'd be a happy camper. As it is, we have to pay almost 60% of our monthly income on health care when you factor in the deductible and the premiums. That leaves us 40% to pay the co-pays, homeowners, car insurance, utilities, groceries and miscellaneous items. Before the ACA went into effect, we were paying about 25% for health care. Oh yeah, I forgot. Hubby's Social Security went up 1.4% but his Medicare went up about 20% so he's getting LESS now per mo
  24. My bad. I did forget that. And good luck finding a doctor who accepts it. There is no point in having health care insurance if you cannot use it to obtain health care.
