The Republican state senator who endorsed Federal Medicaid
Mama Carol replied to LPPT's topic in RECENT TOPICS
And exactly what part did I say won't happen? The premiums won't increase? They already have. Substantially. Payments to providers decrease? They already have. Substantially. Insurance company profits won't skyrocket? They already have. I'm amazed and appalled at some of the dividends and profits on sales I have seen this year on stock sales. Primarily on insurance company stock but also on pharmaceutical company stock.- 230 replies

Since when were/are insurance companies regulated? Yeah, yeah, yeah I know they are supposed to pay within a certain period of time or face a penalty but guess what? Mine took five months to pay a bill. Here's an idea: regulate the pharmaceutical business. Pull ALL prescription drug advertising. Everything--print, broadcast, everything. Let doctors prescribe meds for their patients instead of insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies telling them what they can prescribe. It's sad when just a few years ago our individual health policies TOGETHER were not as costly as my- 230 replies

EXACTLY how has ACA changed all of this? If you believe the amount we pay will go down substantially over the next three years, you are drinking too much of the Kool Aid. Premiums will increase, payments to providers will decrease and insurance company profits will skyrocket. And if by some chance they don't, well, there's that little bailout that is written into the act. If you don't think insurance company and pharmaceutical company stocks paid better dividends in 2013 than they did in 2010, you didn't have any either year. I have been amazed at some of the figures I have seen- 230 replies

I would not have qualified unless there were ZERO, ZILCH, NO restrictions as to assets. We have my hubby's retirement pension in the bank. They would count that as assets. So, I wouldn't qualify for Medicaid even if Florida had expanded it. Why is that so difficult to understand? FWIW, I agree totally with Florida's stance on not expanding Medicaid. 100%. What I don't agree with is punishing the people who don't qualify for the "tax credits" but live in a state that didn't expand Medicaid. I got a JOB so I could get out of that no-man's land. And the job is about to kill me.- 230 replies

My husband swore that having sex in the backseat of a 1975 Camaro would cause him to have back problems later on.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I ain't saying a word about what they were doing. More power to 'em. A little discretion goes a long way though. Last summer we had a young couple get busted for that here. The really funny thing is where they were you had to make it a point to see what they were doing. And please, how can children be "harmed" by seeing that.

I fall into a special group. Have too much household income and too much in assets to qualify for Medicaid but don't have taxable income so I don't qualify for a "tax credit" which is the new term for the subsidy. Therefore, we had to pay out roughly 60% of our monthly income to cover the health insurance and the deductible. Remember, I have to continue to pay the insurance even if I never reach the deductible. The insurance itself is roughly 30% of our monthly income. I had to take a job in order to afford to pay things. Ironically, taking the job in order to afford to pay for the insur- 230 replies

2012 and 2013 are quite a bit different than "never". I definitely remember getting the health insurance that I had and being asked if I wanted maternity coverage. Hubby and I laughed and said "not just no, but hell no". I'm thinking that was in the summer of 2002. I bought insurance more or less through the marketplace but I get zero in subsidy, er, excuse me "tax credits", so I'm paying full price for my policy. I took a job so I could pay the deductible for my surgery. I'll pay roughly $5500 for my insurance this year, plus another $6250 for my deductible, plus only God knows how- 230 replies

That's the thing. You still have to buy coverage in your state. I cannot go outside of Florida to buy coverage. I must buy according to the county in which I live, as well. Smokers still pay more and if you have pre-existing conditions you still pay more. But thanks to Obamacare I get to pay just a few dollars shy of $500 a month for insurance that won't pay a penny until I have paid $6250. And now I have to find a different doctor to do my knee surgery since the one I have been going to, and who was shown in the "find a provider" section of information about the plan, is not in-net- 230 replies

Interesting. I was always covered. Of course, not when I was actually pregnant. I had an individual plan from about 2002 until 2004 or 2005. And I could have chosen maternity coverage but since I had already had my tubes tied years before that, I chose not to add maternity coverage. It was offered as an option. My birth control pills were covered when I was on them and having my tubes tied was covered. Now that I am 59 years old, well past menopause, my insurance requires maternity coverage as part of the plan. Why do I think this is just plain- 230 replies

Ralph Roberson. You can PM me for his contact info or do a Google search for Roberson Painting. He's done some work for some Pcommers who seem to be happy with his work. I know I was. I'd love for him to come paint this house but that would be a road trip.

Better report it and have one of the mods close it for you. Never mind, I reported it for you. Maybe one of the mods will take care of it soon. Pubby doesn't like posts being deleted.

Yes, for the first time EVER I have insurance that will pay for 30 visits a year to a chiropractor or 30 PT visits. For the time being, I'm paying for my chiro visits out of pocket and saving the 30 visits for PT.
-
I'm here to tell you that chiropractors do a bunch of good. One time when I was in my early 20s I went with a church group to an outing near Stone Mountain. Lots of time on a bus, turning my head looking out the window. Next morning my head looked like it was on crooked. I called my chiropractor ON A SUNDAY and he met me at the office to do an adjustment. I needed one more to get things back in alignment. In 1996 I woke up one morning and had a severely pinched sciatic nerve. Pinched to the point that I fell down when my foot hit the floor. It took my husband and my daughter to

Yes, Dr. Vaughn does. Not sure of his office hours on Saturday. But he did just have someone new come in with him, so I would think they have early evening and Saturdays covered all the time now. Great minds thinking alike again!

Another vote for Dr. Vaughn. Love, love, love him. Miss him, too. Trying to convince him to come to Florida.

Birthday card "Returned to Sender"? It had the correct address!

My daughter has gotten junk mail here. In her maiden name. She has been married since 2001. And hasn't lived with us since just before she got married. -

The closing attorney for our home sale mailed out the closing documents the Monday after closing on Friday. We waited and waited and waited for those to arrive. After about three or four weeks, I contacted our agent and the closing secretary. Yes, they were mailed on Monday the 21st and had not come back to them. Nor had we gotten them. Verified that they sent them to our address, yes, they did. They e-mailed me a copy and mailed a copy as well. I got the second mailing in two days! Not sure if it's Dallas that has so many problems or Milton. I do know that I mailed a package fro -
A certain Mexican restaurant was on the news
Mama Carol replied to michelay1000's topic in RECENT TOPICS
It must have been a REAL slow news day for the news crew to drive to Dallas to do a story on employees who had their employment terminated because they didn't know they should wash their hands. -
In my old house I had a Maytag JetClean. It was OK but if I were to buy another one, I think I'd get a GE. Loved it because it was quiet and roomy but it did leave a lot to be desired in getting things clean. Believe it or not, I now have one that is original to the house. The house was built in 1976. Yep, I have an avocado green dishwasher with no automatic rinse dispenser, only two cycles (short and long). But it works and it gets dishes much cleaner than that Maytag did.

I bet you're right about that!
