  1. /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ this says it all in my book. Let's not pick and choose and let's not let it be OK for one group to throw around racial slurs or statements and not another group. Then and only then will be truly have people who are not racists or bigots. Oh, forget that. We'll still have them. They just will be more careful who they say what to.
  2. Much stranger things have happened than a wife and a girlfriend teaming up. And take that anyway you want. Where is this woman going to get 1.8M to pay the wife should the lawsuit go through and this tramp, er excuse me, woman lose the case? Seriously? Do they still have alienation of affection lawsuits? I thought that went out with disco.
  3. My guess is the wife he was cheating on got together with the girlfriend. Maybe they decided to split the profit from the divorce. It would be a win-win situation for the two of them.
  4. What better opportunity for a selfie than when you cross the state line into Florida?
  5. There's another line of them between Pensacola and Tallahassee right now but it appears to be moving faster than the last system. Hopefully both lines will be long gone before morning. Tell her to get out at the Welcome to Florida sign and do a happy dance. http://www.heavy.com/news/2014/04/pensacola-florida-alabama-flooding-damages-pictures-photos/15/
  6. We got out and rode around a bit to see what the damage was like. Not really as much as we were expecting but we didn't go to Pensacola. We went by each of the three houses we had tried to buy but thought today they would be flooded. Two were fine though the water got really close to one of them. The third one wasn't so lucky. It looked like they had water under the house if not in the house. Entire yard was flooded and up to the hubcaps of their truck parked in the driveway and up to the wheels of the car parked in the carport. Pretty sure the water is down a bit as well since it
  7. No, the rain isn't over. Drizzling now and we still have a little more forecast the rest of the day. Then again on Friday (I think).
  8. Winn Dixie in the southern part of my county. A Naval Air helicopter landing field
  9. For real! I'm too old to start over. We have said over and over for the past year that we are exactly where we need to be. High ground, one level house, walking distance to the Winn Dixie.
  10. Yep, roads are washing away. We had a reported 19 inches at the high school a mile and a half from my house but some areas to our west, like around Pensacola, got 27 inches of rain. If you're familiar with Pensacola and Scenic Highway, part of it washed away. All schools are closed, all government offices are closed, all military bases are closed and all elective surgeries have been cancelled. Not even sure if you could get to one of the hospitals as most of the roads in the area are closed. It's a mess. Most of that rain fell between 5 p.m. last night and 6 a.m. this morning. It s
  11. Fortunately we are on high ground. We might know the reason we didn't get some of those houses we tried to buy. We're guessing that at least three of them are flooded this morning. I told my husband when we started looking for a house that I was too old to get flooded out. Maybe someone upstairs heard that.
  12. You really have to wonder about this whole thing. Here is a man who was raised as a Jew, sleeping with a mixed race Hispanic/black woman young enough to be his granddaughter, who was up for an award from the NAACP and he is being accused of being a racist. But we have bigger problems than Donald Sterling in this area. We have loss of property, loss of lives and will be digging out of mud and rebuilding washed out roads for months, just in time for hurricane season to start. We have had 25 inches of rain in this area since yesterday.
  13. So it's only "racism" if it is white on black? Not if it's black on white, black on black or black on Hispanic or other ethnic groups? Talk about a double standard.
  14. You might want to do a little more research about that. He has been fined in the past by the NBA. $10,000 in 1982 and $25 million in 1984 (later reduced by the league to $6 million after he filed a lawsuit against them). While those fines were not for being an "open bigot" (whatever the hell that is), they were fines imposed on him by the league, presumably by the commissioner.
  15. I doubt they will give back a penny. But if he is such a racist, they should give it all back. It would be tainted money.
  16. My answer is the same as yours. And we know what would have happened had it been a black guy telling his hot young white mistress that he didn't want her hanging around white guys. He had every right to expect privacy when talking with his mistress. Yeah, that sounds wrong but a right to privacy should exist regardless of the relationship. My husband said he heard Mr Sterling was a big contributor to the NAACP. If that's the case and he is a racist, they should return the money he gave them. With interest.
  17. No, Social Security is not considered income for the subsidies. That was what I was told by the navigator. Because at the time I applied all of our income was from SSDI and none was from earned income, it did not qualify me for a subsidy. Had I had income, like from the job I had, it would have qualified me. That was part of my reasoning for taking the job. Well, that and it would help pay either the premium or the deductible so we wouldn't have to dip into savings to pay for the surgery. But it was a temporary job. It ended. And now I'm facing surgery and can't work. I'm hoping to be
  18. You are correct. We don't qualify for Medicaid because of our assets and still wouldn't under the guidelines for the expanded Medicaid as I best understand the asset limitations. They were increased but not significantly. We were very blessed in 2013, receiving hubby's retirement buy out and selling a house we owned free and clear. However, that is our retirement nest egg. There is a good chance in the next few years that my husband will require full time care, perhaps in a skilled care facility of some kind. And he does not qualify for any long term care insurance that I can find.
  19. I had a job, thank you. It ended. I needed it to pay for my insurance premium. And as I stated, I was told by an Exchange navigator that I did not qualify for a TAX CREDIT (the new, friendlier name for the subsidy) because I had no taxable income. Not that we didn't have income but that we didn't have taxable income. Social Security disability does not qualify as taxable income. But I have to ask the question, why would you need the subsidy if you have the income to get it? Isn't it more sensible that people who don't have the income would get help paying for it?
  20. Yes, I should have been subsized but as I stated, unless ALL asset exclusions were eliminated from qualifying for Medicaid, I would not have qualified even if the the state had expanded the program. Even the programs that expanded the program did not raise the asset limit to where I would have qualified IN ANY STATE. But I was told by an "Exchange navigator" that I was not eligible for the subsidy because I had no taxable income. As I also stated, I am glad my state didn't expand the program. I applaud my governor. I simply don't think that those people who live in Republican state
  21. Our only income right now is my husband's Social Security disability. He couldn't work if he wanted to (and he could give anything to be able to work). I was working but it was just temporary and has ended. He is on Medicare. I am not old enough for that. My insurance went from $433 a month to $497 and change, not a huge jump but still a lot when your income only went up $20 a month. My deductible went from $1500 to $6250. Previously, I had an 80/20 policy. Now I have to pay 100% before my insurance pays anything. My husband's Medicare went up, as did his prescription plan. Ironicall
  22. That's what I have said all along. The law requires insurance companies provide insurance coverage for pre-existing conditions but does it say they must pay for care for that pre-existing condition? I have an acquaintance who is in hospice and some of his meds are no longer covered by Medicare. One of them is absolutely, 100% necessary.
  23. Even back in the 1990s grown children could stay on their parents plan if they were in school and under 24. IOW, as long as they could be claimed as a dependent on the parents tax return.
  24. Thus far I have had to pay right at $2000 in premiums and a little over $200 for medical care (that doesn't include the lab work from last week or the compression stockings). My insurance company has paid zero. I had to find a new doctor. My orthopaedist who is about 2 1/2 miles from my house is not in-network so I have to go to one 20 miles away. Am I happy with my insurance? Not now. Ask me again in six months. I'm with you.
