That little gem went into effect in 1997, the year our youngest turned 17. And you don't get it if they turn 17 at any time during the year, including December 31! You probably never qualified for it because your income was too high. We actually got it in 2012 and haven't had kids at home since 2000. That's how low our income was in 2012.

She should file injured/innocent spouse. It would be best for her to sit down with a tax professional (and this does not mean go to H&R Block or similar places). The state, or the IRS, has the legal authority to take any and all refunds to pay outstanding debts.

Awesome!!That's something we have missed about living in the panhandle. We don't get to see the sandhills.

You're right about that. About all HIPPA has done was make it more difficult for YOU to know what is going on with YOUR health. Oh, and making it to where you play telephone tag with the office when you miss their call and they won't leave a message because you forgot to mark the box that says "leave message". Shortly after HIPPA went into full effect, I went to the doctor. They had the little label things that you signed in on, then you sat down. They would come over, remove the label and viola! nobody would know who was there. Except for that great big waiting room. And trus -
Apparently it IS OK to beat an elderly white man. http://www.wkrg.com/story/24769383/da-beating-suspects-wont-face-murder-charges MOBILE, Alabama - Three suspects accused of beating and stabbing a man inside his home in Chickasaw will not be charged with murder. Carroll Jordan was attacked in his home last month and died at USA Medical Center a week and a half later. Three people were arrested for the crime, 21-year-old DeAngelo Terrell Smith, 19-year-old Yasmine Munnerlyn and 20-year-old Carlos Nottingham, and were initially charged with capital murder. Hindsight is 20/20. Try making a decision based on literally a split second.Really sad. I pray as much for the officer as I do the kid's family. -
What is a refund?
-
That's only required if you itemized the prior year. If you did not itemize and got a state refund, it does NOT have to reported.

One of my co-workers and I were discussing this EXACT thing this morning. No joke. Almost word for word the same thing. Yes, kids need parents not friends. A good example would help.

Y'all can debate this all you want. If you want to know what it LOOKS like, I'll post a picture of my mother in law.

Florida has a higher black population than the national average. Smaller percentage than Georgia but still higher than the national average. The ones who should be outraged are the taxpayers in Duval County who may have to pay for another murder trial and those who have to deal with the media coverage that Al and Jessie will create. I seriously doubt Al and Jessie are going to show themselves around Mobile in support of the elderly man who was beaten. Nooooooooo, they will likely show up, if at all, in support of the killers.

Since the parents of this kid seem to think it's OK, that should be the end of it. Bottom line is this man did not get off with a light sentence. And just ask anyone who has lost a child if watching the killer get mowed down in front of a firing squad would help. I seriously doubt that it would. You've lost that child. Forever. NOTHING will make up for that. Nothing. The parents will have a lot of anger and grief to process over the coming years. I still don't know how the DA thought she could get a conviction on a first degree murder charge. I think the most punishment allow

I had to laugh today when I saw the Boy Scouts selling candy at the entrance to the store and the Girl Scouts selling cookies at the exit to the store. Well played kids. Well played.

I for one enjoyed the blog. I read more of them. The more I read the more I saw my in-laws, particularly my mother in law. Nice to have a name to put to her other than the one I've used for the last 36 years.

Agreed. At least someone is being held accountable for it. My friends murderer was released from prison when his conviction was overturned. That added insult to injury.

Yes, the charge that had a mistrial was first degree murder. That is premediated murder. I tend to agree with the jury on that. I'd have a hard time convicting anyone in that circumstance on that charge. I was happy to hear they convicted on the other charges. Like I said, the man was wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. But a first degree murder conviction would have been wrong as well. And yes, he needs to be in jail for a long time.

We did like the area closer to the beach--Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach. We did like Arlington. We stayed where my husband had stayed when he was working in the area and he was very disappointed in how run down that area had become since the last time he was there. And OMG! the traffic was like downtown Atlanta! We decided the panhandle was more to our liking after all. A bit slower pace here.

A murder CHARGE, no. They would have been charged with the same crime he was. They also probably would have been had the same outcome. He was charged with first degree murder but a mistrial was declared on that charge. My guess is if this man is tried again, with the same evidence, he will be found not guilty. From the definition I read of what constitutes first degree murder, he shouldn't have been found guilty on that charge anyway. I'd guess that the jury couldn't decide because the blacks on the jury were pushing to convict in spite of the fact that the circumstances would not h

We went to Jacksonville a couple of years ago to look for a house. Thought maybe we would rather be on the east coast of Florida than the panhandle. We felt like we were in southwest Atlanta. And felt just about as safe as if we had venture down around McDaniel Street or West End. We couldn't wait to get the hell out of that town. I read that the jury was made up of four white males, four white females and the remaining jurors were a mixture of blacks, Hispanics and Asians. But I am trusting that a jury made up of four black males, four black females with the remaining jurors the sa

I'm with Grumps on this. According to this, they couldn't have gotten a conviction on first degree murder:In Florida, a person is guilty of first degree murder when it is perpetrated from a premeditated design to result in the death of a human being. A person is also guilty of first degree murder if they cause the death of any individual during the commission of a predicate felony regardless of actual intent or premeditation. The predicate felonies that will support a charge of first degree murder under the statute are:[2][3]• Drug trafficking• Arson• Sexual battery• Robbery or home invasion r

I'm not defending what he did. Not in the least. He was wrong. Premeditated murder might be a stretch though for this. I think it was probably emotional and spur of the moment. Wrong no doubt. He should have got in his car and left. Period. End of story. The jury made their decision and that is the one we must abide by. Public opinion is not binding. As the mutual friend of a murdered friend said to me one day "you may escape punishment on earth but there will be punishment for your crime". I'm sure had the jury been convinced the evidence for first degree murder was

The 12 jurors found him guilty of three counts of attempted second-degree murder and a count of firing into an occupied car. A mistrial was declared on the first-degree murder charge as jurors could not reach a verdict. That's how our justice system works, folks. 12 jurors. Unanimous decision. Or we could use public opinion.
