  1. I have one thermostat for a two story house. It's in the dining room, which is on the north side of the house, next to the kitchen. It stays cooler in the winter (or at least did until we added the sunroom), so the heat runs more which means the bedrooms stay too warm. It stays cooler in the summer, so the air runs less which means it stays pretty warm upstairs.
  2. While I'm not going to do a lot of research on this one, I am going to say "what are you thinking???" This is more an issue for the HOA and not the recipient. The HOA is paying the bill, right? You are not getting anything of value actually. The HOA has to file a tax return and I would HOPE that they have reported the cost of the cell phone and any compensation to officers. As to how much reward you get from the IRS for reporting tax violations, it depends on the tax amount involved. For something like this, you would probably get a form letter saying thank you for your help.
  3. I really makes a HUGE difference! I kept trying to tell my mom to turn the fan the other way and it would be cooler and she would always argue with me about it. Finally, one day I went in the kitchen and turned it myself. She later asked me if I noticed that it felt just fine the way the fan was going. I told her yes, I did and I guess she was right and I was wrong.
  4. I have a cousin who was getting married on the last Saturday in May. Another cousin was about 8 3/4 months pregnant at the time and was in the wedding. She left the reception and went straight to the hospital where her daughter was born just hours later.
  5. I went to Wally World but went to the one in Powder Springs. Lots of people there, people driving like idiots (made me think I had gone to the Hiram Walmart for a minute) but thankfully nobody cursing anybody else. Glad I decided to forgo the trip to Suntrust. I despise that Walmart. Absolutely HATE it! Love the one just up the connector, off Powder Springs Road. Don't know where anything is in there yet but love the store.
  6. Those of you who have ceiling fans make SURE they are turning the correct way or you may be counteracting your a/c unit. They MUST turn counterclockwise in order to push the cooler air *down*. It really makes a difference! I had painters in on Tuesday and somehow they switched the kitchen ceiling fan to the wrong direction. I didn't notice it at first but wondered why in the heck it was so hot in there. Looked up and saw the fan turning clockwise. Then I knew why and changed it. It really made a difference in how hot it felt. Our house is roughly 1700 sq ft, two story, one A/C uni
  7. I know I shouldn't but I gotta ask: HOW in heavens name do some of you have power bills THAT high? My daughter has Ga Power (which is higher than Greystone), a woefully inadequate a/c system, a 24/7 household with two under 26 months and she doesn't even have a bill as high as $200! I know she washes clothes about twice a day with the two little ones around and has an older big screen TV that runs 24/7. I wouldn't have to worry about a second month of a bill being $300+ because I'd have a heart attack with the first one!
  8. Wow. $160. Total electric. One computer runs all day, another computer runs almost all day and occasionally all night, dishwasher runs every day and sometimes twice, workshop out back with fan going when we're out there and some power tools being used, A/C on since the end of May. Ceiling fan in bedroom runs all night, ceiling fan in kitchen runs from time we get up until time we go to bed.
  9. We were getting married on Easter Sunday, between sunrise service and Sunday School. Easter was early that year, too. Anyway, I get to the church around 7:45 or so since we were getting married at 8. I walk up and my soon-to-be mother in law comes up to me and says (and I quote): "don't worry, but you're going to have to take him to the emergency room when you leave here". My hubby was going to take a motorcycle with us on the honeymoon. He was loading it into the van earlier that morning and forgot to duck, catching his head and the back of his neck on the door latch. Sure enough, we l
  10. I don't have to pay a fee to transfer between my savings and checking. Or at least I didn't the last time I did it back in April or May.
  11. Believe me, we have had all of them the last few years--BCBS personal plans, BCBS group plans, United, Aetna, back to BCBS, then back to Aetna. I really liked United and BCBS. Currently have Aetna and they have been difficult to deal with on one item (hubby's pain specialist).
  12. We have GEMC for our Money Market, joint checking and joint savings. Other than the fact that we live in Powder Springs and it is a good 15 minute drive to their Douglasville office and a 20-30 minute drive to their Dallas office, we LOVE GEMC. Wish we had started doing business with them years ago! I still have my personal checking and savings and we have our business account at Suntrust. If GEMC offered business checking, we would have ALL of our accounts with them. Their tellers and service reps are awesome! The only other bank branch that comes close is the Suntrust in Hiram. I al
  13. Suntrust. Hands down, far superior to Walkalloverya. Never dealt personally with BOA except for my credit card and I don't really care for them.
  14. The ones I've been fighting all summer seem to be attracted to cat food. At least in the beginning. Then nothing in particular seemed to be the draw for them. We have killed two nests of them and STILL had thousands more. For some strange reason, they seemed to have disappeared recently. We may have a stray one or two but no more sink being covered with them when I get up in the morning. They were literally *everywhere* in my kitchen. Countertops, sink, dishwasher, range hood. Ant baits seemed to do just that--bait them and attract them. I accidently found two things that they di
  15. A closed litter box helps. I also generally keep a rug of some kind under the box.
  16. Not me. I just want that hunky actor in "Independence Day".
  17. Since we have made our living in the paper industry since 1991, I sure would like to see this come to pass. Sadly, I doubt it will EVER happen.
  18. I literally stumbled across a website for local governments a few days ago and they just may have something you're interested in. http://www.gmanet.com/ then click on "marketplace". That's where the job listings are. Yes, they hide them pretty well, don't they? Good luck to you.
  19. You got some great advice in the other thread about this.
  20. I would start by reporting it to: 1) the office/practice manager and then 2) the other doctors in the practice if reporting it to 1 & 2 didn't stop it, I would then report it to: 3) the county medical society and 4) the state board of Medical Examiners if 3 & 4 have no effect I would consult an attorney. Quite frankly, I wouldn't even bother reporting to anyone because I'd be out of there so fast they would think I was a figment of their imagination. I used to work for a doctor who was a real jerk. In fact, he gave jerks and a**holes a bad rap. He was HORRI
  21. What's interesting to me is you don't have to show your license to buy WD40 at Home Depot. Or canned air at Staples. Or spray paint at Lowe's. What's priceless is the look the person working the self scan aisle at Kroger gives me when I buy beer. Not only am I well over 21, I look it! Still remembering one of the doctors I used to work for. He must have been 45 or so at the time and got carded for wine. He was In all honesty, he looked young enough to be carded! I have my license in my wallet to where I don't have to take it out to make a purchase where I have to s
  22. Or canned air, like you use to dust your computer keyboard.
  23. That's how my now best friend ended up in medical assisting. She decided she would see more of the guy she liked if she worked in a doctor's office! No joke. Fortunately, she flunked out of the class and got over him.
