Just one more reason to tax the unhealthy foods
Mama Carol replied to OldGoat99's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Congrats on both!! I've lost about 26 pounds over the past year or so and I, too, feel sexy. -
I had a friend who had a blood red 1974 'Stang. That car would fly, too. Flew many times between Ft Bragg and Smyrna.

My first car was a 1967 Camaro. 327 engine. Sweet little car. It was red and had a black vinyl top, which suited me just fine since red and black were my school colors. I have a pic of it somewhere around here but have no clue where. If I find it, I'll post it. I have actually owned two Camaros. The second one was a 1975 LT coupe. 350 V8. Metal flake blue. Kept that car for about 15 years. Finally got rid of it because I didn't want to have to pay to have the front end rebuilt again. The red one above is similar to mine, but not exact. The blue one looks EXACTLY like mine.

Just one more reason to tax the unhealthy foods

Agreed. Not all obese people are unhealthy. Take me and hubby for instance. Doc doesn't even want to see me because IN HIS OWN WORDS, he can't make any money off of me because I'm so disgustingly healthy. Overweight, certainly. Same with hubby. Overweight, certainly but other than back problems due to arthritis, in great health. Niece and sister both are rail thin and unhealthy. Niece is fighting lung cancer (and NO, she has never smoked a cigarette EVER) and has high cholesterol and sister had breast cancer about 10 years ago. My sister also has a lot of other health problems especia -
We were very impressed with the eye doctor there.

Last year my hubby and I both went to Doctors Vision Works at the mall in Douglasville. He got the exam and glasses and I just got the exam. I ordered my glasses from Zenni Optical. I can't remember what just the eye exam is, but it was reasonable. They are on the left just as you go into the mall if you enter where Borders is.

Several years ago while at work we had this guy come in saying he had been stranded in Dallas and was trying his best to get back to the midwest somewhere (Kansas I think). He looked like he had had a rough couple of days. My co-worker had some leftover food from lunch (something she didn't eat, not something she ate part of) and offered it to him. He gobbled it down like he hadn't eaten in a couple of days. Not knowing what to do, I ran downstairs to the building owner and asked her opinion. She knows a lot more about the town and the various resources than either me or my co-worker. Sh

Just glad it wasn't my daughter who had to confront him.

YIKES! That is the Travelodge where my middle daughter used to work.

That explains why I still had the flea problem after using them.

I couldn't agree more. Being a cynic helps. About two weeks ago I got an e-mail from my daughter, or so it seemed. Seemed strange to me that she was e-mailing at that particular time of day because she is usually still asleep at that time. I opened the e-mail anyway, clicked the link which took me to a Canadian pharmacy site and a list of Viagra-like drugs. I sent her an e-mail back and asked why she was sending me a link to a Canadian pharmacy. She e-mailed me back that it wasn't her. I immediately deleted the e-mail and ran a full scan. Having e-mail addresses that you don't

He used to use Norton. Hated it. Said it slowed down the computer so much he was better off doing whatever he needed to do by hand.

The bad thing is my FREE antivirus program had expired at the end of October and I just never got around to renewing and updating it. Not sure it would have blocked that virus but it would have been better than nothing. I'm using Kaspersky now and have been amazed that it has blocked five viruses or trojan horses. I've only had it since December (yep, the same month I got the virus). I just have to cringe every time I see my husband go online because he refuses to use any antivirus software. I'll take a slightly slower computer in exchange for losing EVERYTHING or possibly having

Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap works great on dogs. I wouldn't recommend trying it on a cat simply because they generally don't handle water very well. Not necessary to treat the yard every time. We haven't treated the yard in over 20 years. That particular time we had fleas EVERYWHERE and I mean everywhere--every room in the house, the garage, the yard, the cars. We had to do an inside and outside treatment that time that took the better part of a day. But it stopped them for the year. Always follow up the foggers with a good bath for the dog and drops and/or new collars for dog

Stories like this are why I am a proud card-carrying member of Cynics International. I hate you had to learn this lesson the hard way.

That's what happened to me back in December. The virus blocked system restore and all antivirus programs that I tried. It was a nasty, nasty virus. Cost me almost $200 to have removed while keeping as much of the data as possible. Worth every penny, though!

Whatever you do, shut off your computer and don't restart it again until it gets fixed. BTDTGTTS. Every time you restart your computer, the virus goes deeper into the hard drive.

I The Bookworm. Just haven't had much in the way of "extra money" lately and haven't been in. Will make a point of coming by in the next week or so. Once they open the Lewis Road Extension, it won't be such a problem getting from my house to downtown Powder Springs and I can come by more often.

out-of-state telemarketing for Ga governor candidates
Mama Carol replied to Mama Carol's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Actually, I've had three different numbers come up for the same candidate--the latest one is in Montana. I agree about "building a local area code" for their calls. I agree. I am not swayed in the least by an out of state endorsement for a Georgia candidate. In fact, just the opposite is true. The thing about this that really saddens me is I was planning to vote for her until the calls started. -
We have had fleas LITERALLY everywhere in the house, even in the bathroom which has tile. The foggers work but I would never leave a pet, not even a fish, in the house. I do generally leave my houseplants inside. Fortunately, most of the foggers don't require you to be gone for 6-8 hours any longer. Most I've used in the last few years say 2-3 hours. I always leave them a bit longer than the instructions say. Like I said earlier, I've only had one time when they didn't work. I occasionally will use another round in two weeks just to make sure that I get all of the eggs, too.

Fortunately, other than all of us being extremely sore the next day, we weren't hurt and everything was replaceable. We think the lightning hit the TV antenna, bounced to the gutter, ran down the downspout and then ran the length of the fence. It got things at each end of the house but nothing in the middle and didn't start a fire. Sounded like you were just minutes from having your house blow up. Fortunately, you caught it in time and the fire department was quick.

Am I the only one who can't remember today is Fri?
Mama Carol replied to jennilyn77's topic in RECENT TOPICS
All of you whose kids went back to school are thinking it's Monday and I'm thinking it's Saturday. -
YIKES! I just read this thread and thank God you, your family and to a lesser degree your house are all OK. Our house was struck by lightning about 15 years ago. I just laid in bed sniffing to make sure I didn't smell anything burning. Finally after about an hour and not smelling anything, I went to sleep. A couple of WEEKS later, I was in the garage and looked up at the gutter. I asked my husband "what is that spot on the downspout?". Turned out it was where the lightning arced before it ran down the fence. There were actually two places on the downspout and one on the gutter its
