This does not sound like an airbag problem. Unless I misunderstand what you're saying, the light goes off when you wiggle or press the connection together. If this is the case, you should be able to disconnect the wires at the connector and then clean both sides and reconnect the two parts of the connector. It should be very easy. Why the dealership wants to trace all the wiring makes no sense....based on your description.

I called the tech who has been servicing my Fords for 4 years at Team in Marietta - a 97 Crown Vic (sold), an 06 AWD 500 w CVT (sold), and 11 Fiesta, and a 12 Focus - and he has always done excellent work for me. About All I Hear is Blah Blah Blah's F150, he believes that the squeak is not caused by the step but by the retractable springs that support the tailgate. I do not own an F-150 so I cannot confirm what he said through personal experience. However, he said that if he can hear the squeak, he can find it and fix it.
