  1. I know that you were smiling when you wrote that last line.....admit it I would much rather see the occasional general interest topic moved from the Political Forum into the Cafe than to have every post by certain people thrown automatically into the political forum by the mods no mater what the subject. Is there no reasonable expectation of privacy in a "private message"???? "Nasty" is covered under the freedom of speech, but terroristic threats are not. The Block feature is always available too. I'm just sayin..... my 2 cents. (BTW, it wasn't me )
  2. How about making "Coupon Clippers" and "Homeschooling" a closed forum. Very confined interests.
  3. As Paul Harvey would say.........An Open Letter to Northern Trusts Shareholders, Clients, and Staff I'm just sayin' that there are 2 sides to every story and they don't always make the headlines. Not taking sides.
  4. This would be funny if it wasn't so sad. I'm sure this will be off to the political forum to die a slow death in no time though.
  5. Unfortunately, they functionally do not. What started out as a way for credit card companies and others to save litigation costs turned into another collection agency with the force of a court order.

    Smoking

If they can ban Cigarettes, they can ban refined sugar and hamburgers. Who decides where it stops?
  7. I wouldn't worry too much until a couple of weeks before, then you can call Aetna and raise cain. it is a negotiating tactic. Aetna hopes that you call Wellstar and "demand" that they negotiate "in good faith". BabeCake is completely right.
  8. 1966 Mustang convertible that my dad bought new and I bought off of him in 1969.
  9. What's not to like about acute little red headed sweater...er... I mean weather girl? Southside Steve has her Flummoxed:
  10. What a horrible week to be famous. Karl was an original.
  11. Firefox rocks! I accidentally let Internet Explorer 8 download and install and it crashes every time now. I tried to back up to 7 and it still crashes. if I could get it completely off my computer I would in an instant. Firefox and Thunderbird are the best. Low overhead too.
  12. If your point is that he was popular, I agree. My point is that the death of someone who is a part of popular culture is news only for a short period of time. His contributions to the music world were minimal, but his popularity was great. Your examples of Sinatra and Elvis along with Bennett are well taken. Lets see how many hours of wall to wall coverage on CNN Tony's death elicits. The death of the Pope didn't get this kind of coverage. This is just like Anna Nichole Smith. Voyeuristic curiosity over the life and death of train wreck.
  13. Some weeks it just doesn't pay to be famous.
  14. Please. If it wasn't for Quincy Jones, this little pervert would be as popular as a root canal. He's a "POP icon", a creation of MTV. Had he not "moonwalked" and choreographed his way to Video stardom, he would be singing in some Holiday Inn in Boise. Prince has more musical talent in his pinkie than Jackson has shaken hands with. I'm sorry for his family that the little freak is dead, but he brought dance and choreography to music videos. That's about it. He will be ultimately remembered more for his freakish life and death than his music, although he will live on in video infamy.
  15. While I see the common sense involved in your assertation, and I thought the same thing, just the opposite was found to be true when New Mexico lifted the ban on Sunday Package Sales. From an abstract of The Study. On July 1, 1995, the state of New Mexico lifted its ban on Sunday packaged alcohol sales. New legislation allowed licensed package stores to sell alcohol between noon and midnight on Sundays. The law also included a provision allowing individual communities to hold an election to reinstitute the Sunday ban. Advocates for the legislation asserted that the law would red
  16. Lord, I can see it coming now. We really seem to live in a sick society sometimes.
  17. My word I am so over Michael Jackson. A "pop Icon"/ suspected pedophile dies and you would think the whole universe was set on fire. Congress is still in session with important topics to discuss, Iran is still in turmoil, the economy still sux, and all I have heard since 5 pm last night on purported "news" outlets is Michael Freakin' Jackson. He was the original celebutant. This would be a great time to slide one by the American public while no one is watching.
  18. I'm sorry for his family, but I personally believe that his work was not only extremely derivative but he was a waste of a human being in his personal life. Names like Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly, Janice Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Frank Zappa, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Duane Allman, Otis Redding, Elvis Pressley, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jerry Garcia, even Kurt Cobain pop into mind as far better musicians and more influential writers who did more for music than Jackson. The only thing Jackson did was sell popular formulamatic albums that ushered in the MTV era.
  19. CNN and Fox only confirm that he was brought to the hospital in cardiac arrest and that he was not breathing when paramedics arrived (as of 6:15 pm.)
  20. I am so sorry to hear this. Your food and hospitality were and still are first rate. We'll be there.
  21. If you got his name you should tell the newspaper. Great story.
