I said absolutely nothing about the school board. I did not say that the BOC reassessed anything. My example does not include any reassessment whatsoever, because it has absolutely nothing to do with a reassessment. This is why your sales tax example has nothing whatsoever to do with what I said. Do you see the word reassessment in my statement? No. I said that on August 9. 2010, the M&O per 100k of ACV (or $40k of assessed value, your choice) was $266. On August 11, 2010 the M&O per $100k ACV (or $40 k assessed value, your choice) was $304. Pigpin, what happened on August

Not the same at all, because a direct action by the governing body did not lead to the increase if the only thing that increased was the price. The government is the happy recipient of a windfall due to no action on their part whatsoever. Pigpen, in this case the BOC absolutely did vote to raise my taxes overnight and that is precisely my point. My only point. Let me use real numbers. $100,000 home Assessed value $40,000 County M&O of 6.65 mil as of August 9,2010 .00665*40,000= $266 Had the Board done nothing, this would be the County M&O tax bill per $100,000 co

Follow along. It will be less than last year, but that is in no way, shape or form the discussion we should be having. The discussion we should be having is how did the BOC action affect our coming tax bill. It is going to go UP from what it would have been had the BOC not acted. Therefore, by simple deductive reasoning. their action caused my bill to be more than it would have otherwise. Therefore, stick with me here, they INCREASED my taxes. I will now pay more this fall than I would have had they not acted. It really isn't rocket surgery. Don't get caught up in semantics and politica

US Soldiers Punished for not attending Christian Concert
lotstodo replied to stercus tauri's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Jerry. I think that not being able to play and having to work instead of attending the concert could only loosely be called punishment. If punishment was the intention, there are far more strenuous activities that could have been assigned. That is where the problem lies. Surely you don't believe that they should have been let off duty to talk on the cell phone, play video games, or otherwise lounge around in lieu of joining the rest of the group. Time off should never have been an option. 76% of Americans declare themselves to be Christian, yet by their own admission, half or the group -
In many parts of the Country, the cafe can discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation also. No federal law prevents it.

Y'all can play word games all you want. The fact is, if I would have paid $1000 in property tax this coming November under current (right now, not last year) valuation and millage rate, and the BOC acts so that I will pay more than $1000 this coming November, then that's a tax increase. To state it any other way is ludicrous, in fact it's pure BS. Two weeks ago my bill was to be less than it is going to be under current law. Something caused it to go UP. That something is action by the BOC. It's really that simple.

Federal laws protect people from discrimination on the basis of race, sex, creed, age, and disability, but not sexual orientation in the private sector. There are, however, strings attached to certain types of federal funding. Some states, counties, and municipalities have their own laws against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

US Soldiers Punished for not attending Christian Concert
lotstodo replied to stercus tauri's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I would hazard a guess that they regard being shot at as a lousy way to be treated, probably worse than having to listen to a Christian Concert. They signed away that right also. The Military, particularly boot camp and specialty training, is not like going to Summer Camp. They understand what they are getting themselves into, or at least they should, even if you don't. The Military owns these young people. They give up all but the most basic human rights when they sign that paper. They are physically and emotionally broken down and rebuilt in the image of a soldier. Be grateful for their -
Certainly wouldn't want to call anybody names. Passive aggressive works every time.

US Soldiers Punished for not attending Christian Concert

If these soldiers were trainees, I fully understand why their attendance at these types of events is mandatory. I do not however understand why the Commander disregarded his own statements as to the content of the program. Spiritual is one thing, Consistent Christian proselytizing is another. -
So far, the FCC has ruled active jammers verboten except when used by the Federal Government (nice, huh) or when used by prison officials within prison compounds. The FCC has said previously that in spite of the good intentions, they will not consider active jamming for automobiles, because of the likelihood of interference with surrounding communications when used in aggregate. ie: when you are surrounded by them at a traffic light in a low coverage area. They have also said that in keeping with previous rulings, any application or signal that originates from the base station that disabl

Some Jews eat pork butt and some Catholics use the pill. They are not necessarily the norm, and certainly are not in the majority worldwide. My point is that this yahoo is right here right now, today, in New York City, being held up as a moderate spokesperson of his religion, not a radical, and he indeed does see the United States as ripe for an Islamic State based in Sharia. I think that we should listen to his words, not the words of his apologists, or inexplicably attempt to explain away his statements by comparing them to Christians of 200 years ago, if I am understanding you correct

JSYK, this particular Muslim is the one in charge of the ground Zero Mosque. He is personally the guy all the bruhaha is about. He is the one being held up as the bridge builder, the moderate, the voice of reason.. The United States government has him on the payroll. He is no random off the wall far extremist whack job on the TSA's no fly list, and he isn't the Islamic Michael Bray or Eric Rudolph. That quote is the statement of a so called moderate spokesperson for the religion of Islam, and it very much indicates a desire for and ability to create an Islamic State based in Sharia in a de

You mean like the one in charge of the Cordoba Project? "It is clear an Islamic state can be established in more than just a single form or mold. It can be established through a kingdom or a democracy. The important issue is to establish the general fundamentals of sharia that are required to govern." - Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf

How can you not see it?

We weren't given that option. What if any services would need to be cut? I don't think anybody knows, do you?

We were talking about unheralded top notch guitar players the other day, and Roy Clark's name came up immediately. My father said for years that us teenagers made fun of Hee Haw, but every damn one of us was lined up on the floor like kittens at milking time to watch. He was absolutely right.

Dam Tea Partiers. Always raising hell. -
Unfortunately, in many cases the government will simply eat you up in motions and delays and the increased atty's fees until you give in. I agree that you need an expert on your side if you think that you aren't being treated fairly.

It's true that it is technically illegal to post any sign or marker on a state right of way. The two reasons are that it is improper to use state property for advertisement, and it could also be considered a road hazard. Obviously, the maintenance people try to avoid knocking the memorials down, out of respect for the family of the deceased. It is a shame that these people need attention so badly as to cause pain to the families by bring such a suit, just because they have the right. Some things are legal, some things are proper, and some things are kind. They are not always the same.

Fixed it for ya.

She is sooooo hot. She would be the only reason to watch that joke of a news cast. If I hear "Tough Questions" one more time i think I'll scream. I'ts like giving microphones to a group of middle schoolers and telling them to pretend they are Michael Moore. Irritating and amateurish. Did I mention that Dagmar is hot?

I've never really been for the questions being given ahead of time. When that happens, you get the answers that the campaign brain trust has come up with, not necessarily the words or opinions of the candidate. I am much more an advocate of the questions being compiled or created by a neutral third party, or for allowing questions from the audience based on a lottery to see who gets to ask. Both ways intend to insure a neutrality while also insuring that the answers come from the candidates themselves and not some think tank or political handler. I already know what the two party platforms

I've seen Bob Saget, and his stand-up act is crude and not very funny, JMO. He is a far better actor than stand up comedian, and that isn't saying much.
