  1. We go to Michigan every summer to visit family. My parents (Dad and Step Mom of 25 plus years) still live there and my siblings all come with their families for the week. I have 4 siblings and all live in different states (CA, TX, IL, SC, GA) so this is usually the high light of our year. We won't all be able to make it this year due to my daughter having band commitments but I'm still hoping I can get her up there for a day or two and then fly her back. We are also hoping to make it to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in September.
  2. Wish you all were closer to us. I have only made it out once but you had exactly what we were looking for and whoever was working at the time could not have been nicer. Maybe you could open a second location in the Publix shopping center in New Hope and have a little coffee bar?
  3. I thought they did away with the Graduation test? Maybe they were just phasing it out or maybe I have that confused with another test.
  4. Pardon my ignorance but what is the GHGT? I have a 9th grader and she is taking the AP Human Geography class.
  5. Wow, thanks for all that. I thought that I had heard pretty much all that happened reading The Patch's minute by minute (well not EVERY minute) account but they didn't say anything about Dr. Fraker. I see there is no news on Mr. Sailors from Moses. I'm torn because I hate for everyone who is currently there to go/retire/move but I do want the best for him and would hate it for him if he did not get a promotion like Plunkett. Hopefully they will pick a new band director for North soon. I know those students and parents are eager to find out and get things rolling for next year.
  6. I get the whole an hour is an hour argument but I would also understand a place looking for community service that say needs someone to clean port-a-potties being allowed to give some incentive like a 2 or 4 for 1 in hour credits. I mean who is going to choose to do their community service hours there over, I don't know answering phones in a air conditioned non-profit? All jobs should not necessarily be counted equally. If they are so be it but I am certainly not going to be complaining if they aren't. I was hopeful that most everyone was satisfied with the punishments and all but I g
  7. We usually give our kids a $2 bill. Of course they usually get something extra for the first tooth. My husband went a little over board the first time around and I think my daughter got a goodie bag with a movie, coloring book, etc...., the second child goodie bag for his first tooth had a DS game in it, the youngest had no clue about the tooth fairy and when he lost his first and second tooth he didn't even know when it happened. One I noticed was missing when he woke up one morning and the other when he came home from school one day. Both times when I asked him what happened he just shru
  8. Sad, I remember hearing his age a while back and being shocked at how old he actually was. I think American Bandstand was ending when I was old enough to be into that kind of thing but I can hear the theme song in my head right now so I must have watched a bit of it. I remember listening to his Top 40 radio show on Sunday morning on the way home from church and of course New Years Rockin Eve.
  9. When Directtv raised our rates last summer I really wanted to cancel but we had another year on our contract. Instead I dropped to a lower package and went down to 2 TV's. We still pay about $65-$75 a month and we all had to learn to live without channels we liked. The thing was the channels we liked weren't offered at the next package up but several packages up. I miss my Golf Channel, the 5th grader misses Disney XD and the teenagers miss FX, teen nick, AMC and the SciFi channel. And my husband and I both miss the extra ESPN channels.
  10. My kids go back to school. There are still things to learn that are not on the CRCT that the teachers save until the end of the school year. It has never occurred to me to take the kids out simply because the CRCT is over. Don't get me wrong it is a more easy going time of year but there is still a lot going on. Now my middle son, who attends GCA will probably be finishing up a week or two early but that is because he has put in a lot of extra hours and time and as long as he is finished with all his work he'll be done.
  11. Thanks for clarifying that all appeared to be there. Also, the way I read it the $7,500 ( or whatever the final tally comes to) is to be divided by all that take the deal, meaning if only one person takes the deal they would have to pay the full amount, two people, half, etc....
  12. I also read where the DA said several of the teens did not pick up the letter inviting them to this meeting? Can anyone who went confirm that? I couldn't imagine if my child were involved NOT going.
  13. I saw it with my daughter over Spring Break. Loved it but the fact that is was 3D didn't have a lot to do with it and to be honest I expected to love it even more in 3D. Still the three and a half hours went by fast and I teared up several times.
  14. It might sound stupid but I wouldn't be surprised if some of those kids took pictures on their phones. You might not be able to prove everyone who did more than the road but I can totally see students wanting pictures of their Senior prank. Of course they could have been totally caught up in the moment and not taken any but I just think that a few of the kids may have.
  15. Sounds harsh but not too harsh and like a fair deal to me. What does everyone else think? I may change my view once I camp on it a while. Edited to add: Thanks hitch for the update
  16. I'm not sure how you have come to the conclusion that they have gotten away with anything. From what I read they have basically been expelled and are not allowed at school functions. And lets not forget they were arrested and fingerprinted. I don't know about your kids but my kids would be devastated, ashamed and remorseful if they had received any one of these punishments. If there are kids out there who don't feel punished by what has happened to them so far then I would think this isn't there first time getting in trouble..
  17. I hope things go smoothly this afternoon and as a parent of three kids who do or will attend EPHS I am anxious to hear what happens. I'd like to think lessons were learned all around. I was reading last night about a school in another county (Chatsworth?) whose seniors got ISS and are banned from prom and graduation as a result of their senior prank. What did they do? They rode their horses, ATV's, tractors, dirt bikes, and bikes to school. After reading this and what someone posted about thinking the North kids should get in trouble for the traffic cone prank I am thinking my kids
  18. I first read the book when my middle son asked me to get it for him a couple of summers ago. I was so glad I didn't have to wait too long for the third one to come out because I would have gone nuts if I had. Ironically middle son is the only member of our family to have not read it. He couldn't get through the first chapter. He said something about it being about hunting and how boring he found it. He did see the movie with us though and now wants to read the book.
  19. For some reason the school will not sponsor the dance or allow for the tickets to be sold through the school. It seems silly to me too but for whatever reason the parents at Moses has always had to put this on themselves. Before I had a kid in the 8th grade at Moses I didn't understand what all the signs for "ticket sales at Rodney's" were all about. Don't get me wrong I love the admins at MMS but this is one of those few things I didn't really get. I know some of the other middle schools have the 8th grade formal put on by the PTSA so ticket sales are allowed through the school and I was
  20. Simply Floored. Not closing just not doing residential anymore. The address I received was 1691 Sands Place Suite A Marietta, GA 30067. Heading there now. I hope they have what I'm looking for.
  21. I'm glad you are going to go. I think most pastors would require it anyway. We got married in my husbands church and his pastor met with us a few times for pre-marital counseling. He basically covered what a previous poster mentioned~~kids, money, religion. The thing that I remember most about it and found most telling in hindsight was this. The pastor gave us a shoe lace and asked us to try and tie it~~ we each had one end of it. My future husband sat there dumbfounded and I finally just did it one handed. The pastor was so impressed with how quickly and how well we worked together. L
  22. I like it but am not letting myself get too attached. It's not that kind of show anyway. I just hope if they cancel it they wrap it up. They've already answered more questions than I thought they would at this point but of course now there are just more questions~lol. I was watching Touch last night and my hubby informed that it has already gotten the axe. They really don't give shows a whole lot of time to make it these days.
  23. I'll keep my eyes open. Please keep us posted. Hopefully no foul play is involved and it is just a case of a Mom needing a little time for herself.
  24. I don't even know where to begin. Some of you act as though these kids painted racial slurs on a rival school or something. You talk as if you think they were trying to harm someone. Before I start, my comments and thoughts are in regards to those who participated in the painting of the road not the ones who threw benches and painted bad things about the principal or whomever. First, it is not the kids who has set the precedence that the painting of the road is an acceptable "Senior Tradition". I am sure they wore black and did it at 2 am because the point is to pull it off without an
  25. All three of my kids were speech delayed. We live in Michigan when the first two were "diagnosed" and the way they did things there was a bit different than here but they all ended up speaking just fine. In fact all three of them were/are Venture kids so it didn't hold them back at all in the long run. My oldest was 2 1/2 when she was tested, my second child was 18 months old at the time and they felt like he should be talking as well so he was put in a speech program at the same time she was. The process took so long though that by the time he was accepted in the program he had started ta
