Now showing the bulk of the video from the Paulding Business Association Business Expo held Tuesday at Stars and Strikes. We had some sound issues - I pulled the swticher to the floor two or three times - and we had a couple of false starts including one of about 45 minutes. This particular piece runs about three and half-hours beginning at about 3:30. BTW, the 45 minute segment from the EXPO is available via video on demand - check the menu on the media player below and select Video on Demand. In addition, with Video on Demand you can fast forward through the video clip. Clic

I talked with the SO about this this morning and there is an investigation. They have identified whom they believe to be the person and initially, it can be said this was in no way an abduction. That said, as parents take this kind of contact seriously, the investigation is continuing but the SO, I understand, is just being careful. What they do know is that the individual questioned has absolutely no history of improper interactions with children. They do know that there was no abduction and hence no obvious crime. While it may raise suspicions for an adult to in

EastPaulding Native: Thanks for your input on the matter. We obviously made the move to a full-stream approach for the news. Probably what we'll do is after the newness wears off, we'll set it up as an embed which offers that. I've not done that for the news at present. In fact I may do this in a news forum for premium members as the ability to fastforward, etc. is an option that ought to be available to the paying members. pubby

I think it is always a good idea for parents to educate their kids about the dangers of being suckered by strangers. As far as the description of the alleged suspect and suspect vehicle, I know that I'm going to take the OP's second hand story into consideration but also that I'm not going to get excited until I get a report from the local Sheriff's office. pubby FYI: I live off Cole Lake Road and this is in the county. I know the SO is not in the business of raising fears - which the suggestion of a child predator driving around does - but they do try to be proactive. I will

I agree that this is sad. I did not request nor did I get a report from the SO and they did not generate one themselves. Given the elements - husband shot/wounded and car chase - I half-way thought there might be a release but as I'm not 'eager' to put in the work to report these kinds of events - (sorry but I'm getting old and I was tired when this went down) I expect had the husband died, it would have made the news as a murder-suicide. But do know as a general rule, the media shies away from covering suicide - particularly the act - as the motivations are not only difficu

Let me say if it is a septic issue and the septic issue is tied to the recent flooding (as it may be - I heard water was running in Macfarlands back even before the big flood) then there may be SBA or even FEMA aid. As far as the septic tank in old-downtown Hiram ... the plain fact is that septic tanks fail... all the time. One of the things I've never understood is why the county has used its sewerage service expansion only for new building/construction/industry. I say this because literally all but houses in the city of Dallas and a handful of others before 1996, were on any ki

I didn't personally witness it, but Johnny J was in the PCOM office about two months ago and reported to me something rather strange ... If you can get him to talk about it. I do know that Oscar is encouraging LPPT to set up a visit with one of the paranormal groups. What I also know is that psychomom has been to the pcom offices before and I don't recall her ever getting a wild or weird feeling about the pcom office (one of the oldest office buildings in Paulding.) pubby pubby

Nope, no news on this here. I think the severity of the wound to the husband - i.e. not fatal - has not excited the Atlanta media to their usual "oh this is bad and in Paulding so lets cover it. Further, since it appears to deal with a douglasville couple, my interest was not so great as to unilaterally decide to disturb Deputy Gurley from his off-duty hours and demand an accounting Further, I have confidence that if we did have death on this, that SO would call the Deputy in anticipation of the onslaught of the metro news. So, given that if it is a couple of flesh wounds done b

I apologize if I made you feel uncomfortable ... wasn't my intention ... rather in this melting pot, I didn't want folks to think I talk like a native even though I have an accent. FYI: Surepip, who hails from Atlanta used to ride me relentlessly when I was reading the news as well as reporting it. (As to boss, I could insist but while my skin is thick, Surepip found a way to prick it. ) Oh, JJ ... I want to get you on the news. Another vision and version of the local accent. Jeremey, BTW, spent a good part of his youth in Kansas which is the heart of the "general American" accen

Lucky ... Think how boring it would be if everyone was like Jeremey with his general American accent. You are in the south and we do talk different. Actually, Laurie Penney and I grew up about 20 miles from one another ... with one mile of that being the big ole Mississloppie River ... so while our accents are distinctively southern; they're different from the native Georgians. If you listen to the news and hear Boyd or David Austin ... you'll hear a true Paulding County accent pubby

Given the way folks travel around the metro this could be any one of a two-dozen agencies, as well. That said, I understand how a cop showing up on your back bumper when you had no idea any LE was around was 'disturbing' ... If you're like me, you check your speed and you probably try to slyly snap your seat belt on if it is not. But beyond that, you got to admit, the little squirt of adrenaline does you good pubby

HB: Can't verify either way but from what I understand, it would not be a great surprise if your supposition of "again" was the reality. Just saying ... but I don't think his antics will make the front page again. pubby

... and when I read the title and even the OP's post, I was thinking tonk city Oh, I think that culture changes. When I was young ... or even younger - and we're talking when many of you were in diapers or yet even glints in your grandparents eyes - showers were for brides and women having children. I wouldn't know about now as culture changes. I mean men have earrings, everyone seems to have tats and ... well you can vote at 18 pubby

I read the NYTimes report of this incident and they say that several dozen or more are dead after an under-ocean earthquate a couple of hundred miles away let go. The tsunami hit American Samoa and the Samoan nation (two island groups halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand) with five waves about 5 feet high. The Pacific Tsunami warning system was initially activated but the magnitude of the underwater quake apparently was not so severe as to cause a region-wide threat and the warning was canceled. Here's the link. pubby

I understand that the OP and others asking pertinent questions have had those questions answered by a POST certified local authority. As the balance of the topic is more heat than light, I'm just going to close the window and keep the airconditioning in. Energy bills being what they are these day. pubby PS: topic closed

An extraordinary linguist and the conservative NYTimes columnist who called Hillary Clinton a congenital liar is dead at 79. Safire's thoughts were not ignored in the annals of Pcom over the past several years. (click here for references). Safire initially gained fame as the guy who set up the Nixon-Khrushchev "Kitchen debate" in 1959 and ultimate was one of Nixon's key speechwriters during his administration. Safire also wrote a few speeches for Spiro Agnew that included, for instance, the nattering nabobs of negativism comment. I particularly appreciated his efforts to expl

Naw... didn't approve the disaster for Fulton, DeKalb or even Gwinnett. I mean whats up ... it is only Paulding, Cobb, Douglas and Cherokee ... all counties on the northwest fringe of the metro that vote Republican that look and think largely like Glenn Beck. pubby
