I talked with the SO about this this morning and there is an investigation. They have identified whom they believe to be the person and initially, it can be said this was in no way an abduction. That said, as parents take this kind of contact seriously, the investigation is continuing but the SO, I understand, is just being careful. What they do know is that the individual questioned has absolutely no history of improper interactions with children. They do know that there was no abduction and hence no obvious crime. I agree that this is sad. I did not request nor did I get a report from the SO and they did not generate one themselves. I read the NYTimes report of this incident and they say that several dozen or more are dead after an under-ocean earthquate a couple of hundred miles away let go. The tsunami hit American Samoa and the Samoan nation (two island groups halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand) with five waves about 5 feet high. The Pacific Tsunami warning system was initially activated but the magnitude of the underwater quake apparently was not so severe as to cause a region-wide threat and the warning was canceled.
