Reputation system encourages good posts

Now folks have a limited number of 'votes' each day. The idea is that should avoid the 'personalities' in making their selections and instead judge the posts on their own. for instance, I gave a + vote to the post by Mill Creek talking about the 38 pets that were transferred from the Paulding Shelter to a shelter in Connecticut where their chances of adoption are infinitely higher than here. That post deserves, IMO, a plus and Mill Creek deserves the positive reputation point finding that information and posting it. That, frankly, is how and why the system usually works. I -

Here is another idea ... Maybe we do the post rating for the regular members and opt out the paid members? I mention that because I suspect it will get spur a little conversation ... and since the paid members seem to be among those most concerned ... such an approach could mitigate in their opinion. You know it now becomes a 'not in their back yard' as opposed to not in my back yard. pubby Again, this is an experiment, let me know what's going on. -

It is something that came with the new board that we're experimenting with. I honestly don't know how it will work ... What I do know is that given the options, we're open about it; second, it tends to work in larger diverse communities (we are) and it does nothing if everyone sets their 'viewing' to show all posts. If you set your viewing to hide posts from those whose reputation scores are -30 or more, you'll have to click on their post to view it. I'm not 'pushing this down the community's throat anymore than I will engage the 'facebook' integration (another option made poss -
Joe: If you read the intro on this, you'd know it was an experiment. I honestly didn't know what it looked like or how it would work in action. And it remains an experiment. pubby

Actually, the votes are cumulative and are displayed on your profile (green box just down from the top) ... at least for the admin view. I set the ratings visible on a per post basis and I assume the rating points are otherwise visible in cumulative numbers in your profile. One option available is to set the ratings invisible. pubby -
Pcom found the right page and instituted the user-driven reputation system. All members will have a minimum of four votes - two positive and two negative - which they may 'cast' every day to say what kind of site they really, really want. You cast these votes by clicking on the the little +/- at the right bottom of every post. If you like news, click on the person who starts an engaging news topic. If you find snarky gossip not your cup of tea, pass out a negative vote on that post/topic. These scores are compiled and user ratings will arise. This, I might add, is an ex

Well MsGaStorm, I'd like to meet you too Thanks for the recommendation to your chiropractor. You ought to stop by the office one day early in the week - by that I mean a Monday-Wednesday. Usually we're there around 11-2 most days. PM if you want to make sure. You never know what kind of trouble you might get into. pubby

I think I found the 'anomaly' ... that resulted in the skins being hidden. pubby
-
The settings for the skins are 'public'. This is a new board and while poking around, I just found about four more pages I didn't know were there for members and permissions. I seem to remember from earlier versions that there may be a switch that allows specific groups to choose skins and others not. I'll have to check... but my intention is for the skins to be visible and available. pubby

You should have that option as we speak. look at the bottom left of the page. Where it says IP.board is a drop down. In it there is IP.board, Halloween(fall) and Classic Blue. You can choose any one of the 'skins' ... including the green (halloween) board. We'll have additional skins as we go on. pubby
