  1. You'd be right if we were talking about the president and war. We're not. I would hope someone would wake the governor if there were a terrorist attack. The question is who should be responsible for notifying the Governor if a weather warning is issued? BTW - The warning was issued at 3:38, not :38. That's a 3 hours difference.
  2. The problem is when the Governor and state agency heads went to bed, the predictions for Atlanta were for just a small dusting if anything. Why would anyone expect them to sit up all night watching the weather in case something changes? (In fact, how many parents REALLY spent the night watching the weather rather than sleeping?) What needed to happen was when the warning was issued, someone in state government needed to notify the appropriate state agency leaders who would in turn notify the governor. That's something that obviously wasn't in place that hopefully will be in the future
  3. He used a police executive protection escort to leave the city to do an in studio nationwide broadcast. If the information was so important to get out nationwide, he could have done it by telephone.
  4. The real question is what would he have said on Monday if someone told them they weren't coming on Tuesday because of the forecast?
  5. Lowes and Home Depot sell pre-made storm doors with built in doggie doors.
  6. In a dark room, that tiny lit up screen can be very distracting if it's in your field of vision.
  7. Correct, but wouldn't zero tolerance demand the student in possession of the contraband be expelled?
  8. How hard would it be for one student to slip contraband in another's back pack or car, then anonymously report them? Presumed guilty with no opportunity to prove innocence.
  9. You can also find recipies for them under the name 'Cowboy Candy'.
  10. I can see it now . . . Each year you make sure your kiddos have the appropriate hat, scarf, gloves and coats to handle -10 degrees. This year they finally get to put it to use. You take care to bundle them up so they're warm and then you see them to the bus. When they get home and they're cold. Half the stuff is missing. There wasn't enough space to store it properly and they 'lost' it.
  11. It's not just that it will be 7 degrees in the morning, it's also going to be a minus 7 wind chill factor. Unless you're very familiar on how to dress and deal with that wind chill, it can be very dangerous. We haven't had temperatures this cold for nearly 20 years, so very few in the area are prepared for it or know enough on how to instruct their children on what they need to know to deal with it.
  12. The question is - will it be the same with the new rules, and will it apply to ALL schools in the state?
  13. 3+ pathways COMPLETED = 9+ full year classes. The question is, would you senior be able to complete all 9 of those classes under the NEW program?
  14. Lacking other information, I would assume the required courses are year long classes and a student has to take all 3 in the same career path to earn their diploma. There are also need the other required courses (math, history, language, etc.) so that leaves little room for 'experimentation'.
  15. Here's another question - who thinks getting career advice from a 14 year old is a great idea? That's what we're asking these 8th graders to do.
  16. I missed this the first time I looked: each pathway has 3 required courses (ending with an *) the rest listed are optional.
  17. Are you telling us the new rules will allow a student to follow 3 pathways and still graduate? My understanding was once chosen, a student is basically locked in to one thru graduation, that it would be nearly impossible to pick up the required courses for more than one path. -- edit to add -- After reviewing things, I think you're saying that the students will be able to take courses from other paths as electives. I guess that might be possible if there is room in the class and the student has the required classes well in hand. -- Each pathway has 3 required courses and s
  18. I'm still having a hard time deciphering what you're trying to say. I do see you've bought into the NYT's plan to trash Christy like they did Romney:
  19. In their minds you're the difficult one to shop for because they want/need to get you something but have no clue what. That sends them on a shopping spree to try and find the right things. I'd suggest coming up with one thing you each would like. That way instead of 'nothing' you're able to tell them something specific and hopefully they won't go overboard.
  20. With add due respect, I've read that rant 4 times and still can't decipher it. All I get is you're trying to blame local politicians for something but are I'm not sure for what. And you infer that you're a big man for giving a platform to the community.
  21. Apparently I'm not the only one who reads that phrase as meaning: "I may have gotten something wrong, but I'm not going to admit it and I really don't give a d**n!"
  22. I see you're a case study in "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." You were told by an unreliable source that refunds will be delayed 10 days compared to last year. You've been given proof over and over and over and over again that it's just one day - yet your old brain can't comprehend the FACTS.
  23. Other than you proving my point, what does the change in the number of union jobs have to do with tax refunds taking 1 day longer than last year?
  24. If one tries to follow his posts, I believe the only conclusion one can come to is that particular old adage passed him by long ago.
  25. I'm sure the OP can come up with a chart showing many lottery winners get rich on the backs of those who play but don't win.
