  1. First, go over why your 16 year old daughter shouldn't have unprotected sex. That's the first step. That is the ONLY way you're going to contract HPV. Gardasil, by the CDC's admission, doesn't give a life time immunity to HPV. It's the hope during the years that teens are out there having unprotected sex that these young women won't contract HPV. Of course, it's only a hope. Not a guarantee. Not having sex is the only guarantee. Second best, is protected sex. Here's the CDC's page on Gardasil: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/vaers/gardasil.htm Other info: http://ped
  2. No, it does NOT make you a nut job. It makes you a concerned, empowered parent - who is willing to do their own research, and come to their own conclusions. Good for you! Just be sure to hold your ground once your decisions are made, and be prepared to be challenged by many... and yes, called a nutjob by some. And one should remember that vaccines are not 100% full proof, nor does everyone out there react the same to them. They are NOT a golden ticket guarantee of anything. Neither is any medicine. The best way to not contract HPV is to not have unprot
  3. Yep.... you can alternative between two colors. That looks great. You can also do white tissue paper with the black silhouette for an overall effect. Oh, and here's some info on paper mache -- you can also buy a product at Michael's that is like paper mache pulp: http://www.cockeyed.com/lessons/papermache...ermache01.shtml http://ezinearticles.com/?Easy-Paper-Mache...&id=1728493 http://ultimatepapermache.com/paper-mache-recipes
  4. Last year, my son was a character from a horror movie -- it was a VERY effective costume!!! Not sure what he's going to be yet this year. We're starting to work on Halloween now, so we'll see soon enough!
  5. Another way instead of the colored bulbs, is use a regular lamp you have in your house. BUT the negative space where the light would be shining just cover with orange tissue paper instead. You can make the silhouettes from corrugated cardboard, poster board, kraft paper, bulletin board paper (sold at area teacher supplies - on a BIG roll). It really adds a great spooky element to a house if you have the right windows!
  6. Yeah, I'm sure I can. I could also make a papermache face. We'll see which way we go with it. I also want to put in some window silhouettes on the front of the house -- as there are a LOT of windows to work with: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lesliescarter/3041894418/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/msmoot/287303393/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/devandsummer/2997089098/
  7. I definitely want to make a scarecrow similar to this. I already have a rain coat to use. Will be searching for the jacket, and figuring out how I wish to make the face. Also, will be out driving around the country looking for limbs, vines, roots, etc. The following image is from http://www.pumpkinrot.com These people are *very* talented and artistic... including their photography of their crafts.
  8. Looking for fairly quick, cheap, "do it yourself" decorating ideas for Halloween. Three families are going in together to put up the display. IF I can get to our stuff in storage, that will help. But if not - we're hoping for maybe a few displays in the yard, leading up to the doorway area. Mom/Dad's house is two story, so it lends itself to some spooky stuff. Here are a few links to sites I've found -- Post yours back to me! Witch & Cauldron (we're doing this!) http://jas.familyfun.go.com/arts-and-craft...p;craftid=10182 Tons of ideas: http://www.halloweenmonsterlist
  9. No "mask" is going to do what you need done - for serious allergies. You'd have to invest in a true respirator to be truly protected. Here ya go, EPA cleanup guide: http://www.epa.gov/iaq/molds/whattowear.html
  10. Then this family surely needs to seek professional help. There are major issues at play in this situation.
  11. Hugh Jackman was there to perform for people. And those people paid money to see him. They, I feel sure, all know basic etiquette to TURN YOUR CELL PHONES OFF - I mean, they even tell you in the movie theater to do so. It's common sense. So, you know, after it rang, and then continued, I can blame Mr Jackman for calling the person out. That's hard to be up on stage, you're the main attraction, just you and one other actor in the middle of a dialog, and to have that kind of distraction? Naaah, the only jerk was the dummy who didn't turn his phone off.
  12. PLEASE be careful with the mold! I agree, take LPPT's advice, register with FEMA and do this job right. My next door neighbor in Hiram struggled with the last several years with a serious mold problem in her home, due to a company she hired screwing some things up. It negatively affected her health in major ways!!! I'm very allergic to mold, as is my son. I can smell it in a room way before most others can -- it starts working on my sinuses rather quickly. Good luck!
  13. Hope everyone has a great day!! We're enjoying the slight "bite" of autumn in the air here. It's such a wonderful change from our normal near 100* weather!!!
  14. Oh, my!!! Sounds like they need to make plans in advance this go around where they may take him too once he's found next time. He may need professional help. I hope that this all works out soon. So sad.
  15. Great post. I agree 100%! We've all been guilty of it one time or another (distracted/distractions) in our driving career. It's a great lesson to discuss with preteens and teens both -- as it's a huge issue, all the things you described.
  16. Dragonboy and I just got off the phone with her. Gosh, we sure do miss her. Hope we get to see her our next trip up there. She's a special soul to our family.
  17. I hope they put fliers up at school. Do they even allow that? Usually there's another kid out there who knows where the missing ones are -- at least to begin with.
  18. Brought tears to my eyes.... I cannot even imagine. Prayers that he's found soon, safe and sound.
  19. You should have been at ours then. We know how to have fun!
  20. Awww! Thanks for letting us know CC! I'll have to give her a call. I sure do miss her.
  21. Sorry, I disagree. The thing is people need to let go of stereotypes of what a "shower" is suppose to do -- and instead do it like a fun gathering/party that it should be. We had a BLAST. People still talk about what fun they had with everything connected to our wedding, and it's been 17 years. It can be done. And real men can have fun in the process... without the hot water or the naked chicks.
  22. We had a BLAST at our couple's shower! We had one for our wedding, and then one when I was expecting our son. We wouldn't have wanted it any other way. It was great fun for everyone!
