  1. Oh BS. This isn't about NIMBY any more, this is about a government agency and government leaders that spend 65 million + dollar and will not open up about how it was spent, yet want millions more for another project. Same answer I gave the school board when they couldn't explain where the 60 million SPLOST went. NOT A DIME MORE UNTIL YOU GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER.
  2. I would be hoping you are kidding about that being the answer from the firm except I remember that the School Board tried giving us that same answer when we asked how the 60 million dollar SPLOST was spent. "Hell if we know, somebody got it" is a heck of a way to run a school board or an Airport construction project. It's completely and totally unacceptable. I cannot believe that the records are not available, they don't want to release them, which means there were some crooked deals going on. I don't ever remember seeing any FAA money in the county budget, I guess the AA must have be
  3. Now as I recall, not a dollar of that is from Commercial Airlines landing there correct? So why the heck is an airline so important to our Airport? Sorry, the more I look at this, the more it smells. If this could be a commercial success without massive taxpayer subsidies, the supporters would lay out the business plan. Instead we get insults and crickets chirping. I have to say I'm leaning against this now just from the lack of information.
  4. Yep, dedicated Mom!! I took a look at the approach cam, the tree appears to be holding up well, no noticeable bending of the branches, hopefully it makes it through fine.
  5. Frick. The forecast just keeps changing. Now showing 1 to 3 inches of SLEET for North Paulding, followed by 1 to 3 inches of SNOW on top of it. This just keeps getting better. Overnight Sleet. Low around 29. East wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Wednesday Freezing rain before 8am, then sleet. High near 32. East wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New
  6. LOL, yea my wife says I'm a little on the pessimistic side... don't know where she gets that idea from. Of course, I just saw the tweet from WSB that the latest models are now showing a third round of snow Friday night.... "Models show 1-3"snow across north GA Fri night"
  7. Carp. Of course, this happens when I'm out of town on the left coast. Hope I have a home to come back to. Hope Hartsfield is up and running by Friday! With all the cancelled flights I bet it will take over a WEEK for everyone to get home once the airport re-opens. Then I have to hope I can drive back home by then. I just hope the ice doesn't get thick enough to start bringing down the high voltage lines. In Montreal in 1998, they had nearly 5 inches of ice that dropped the massive metal towers like dominoes. Of the 4 main lines that fed Montreal, 3 fell and were down for
  8. Be aware that that last time I was there I found that the county recycle center will take everything for free *except* tube type monitors. It is a 10.00 a each fee to recycle the monitors. However, for 10.00, you can dump up to 250 lbs of monitoring in the transfer station.
  9. While the track shows most of the ice to our south right now, the thing that scares me is that with the snow storm 2 weeks ago, the forecast track moved 60 miles north within 4 hours of it starting. If *this* storm does that, we could find ourselves right in the thick of the 1" of ice. Dang.
  10. Took a look on the Berry Eagle Camera this morning. Poor mama Eagle does NOT look happy. I hope the eggs make it. This is some crazy weather to be incubating eggs. I think the early hatching estimate for the first one is the end of this week. At least the forecast looks like the freezing rain will be south of Rome, so not much of a chance of the nest tree falling from ice. Hopefully the snow load won't damage it either. Right now, you can really see the snow falling on the approach camera and some on the nest camera. http://www.georgiawildlife.com/BerryEagleCam
  11. THere is a person on Harmony Grove Church Road in NE Paulding that has one in the front yard with a for sale sign on it. At least I think that is what it is.
  12. I am usually busy giving my goldfish their weekly baths.
  13. Great! I just rebuilt an older XP PC for my uncle and aunt that wouldn't have run Win7. Also, I guess this means I should install the unopened package of XP Home I have on some PC before May.
  14. The one page I found (I wish I'd bookmarked it now)had a lot more information on it and that was what it seemed to say. Who knows with the gobblebygook that AT&T (and Comcast) present on their web pages as pricing data.
  15. "Greatest Hope of bringing new jobs and industry" ??? While I am of split mind on the practicality of this project without loads of taxpayer subsidies, I sure as heck hope that this is not our "Greatest Hope" for industry in the county. We're freaking doomed if that is the case.
  16. After much looking around on the web site, finally found the catch. it's not a bad one, but you should be aware of it. The $15 a phone is if you: Already own your handset Are paying for a new handset separately using their "Next" program. But the next time you want to go in and do a two year commitment deal for a "free" or "discounted" handset, it is going to jump to $40 a month per phone to cover the cost of the handset or you have to pay the extra $15 - $30 a month per handset for the "Next" program. So if you like your current handset and want to keep it's a great deal.
  17. Hey, thanks, will check it out. We are paying $320 a month now for 5 phones (3G data for each) and the contract is just running out....
  18. All heating products seem to have really jumped. Have you priced Kerosene lately? We paid $50 for 2 2.5G jugs at a local store to get the turbo heater going at the shop last week. Ouch!! Gotta find one of those that runs off of Diesel. Might die from the fumes, but I'd die warm!
  19. A Heat pump is a reversible Air Conditioner. In the summer, you pump heat from your house to the outside, making the house cooler. In the winter, you pump heat from the outside into the house. Using 1 KW of electricity can move many KW of heat from outside to inside. However, when cold enough, the heat pump cannot move the heat because the outside temp is so low. So, most heat pumps use backup heat. In an all electric home, the backup is electric heat strips which will *really* pull the power! My dad has a gas furnace as his backup heat since he has natural gas. Propan
  20. Which circles back to the point. We are saying that there are differences in kids. All will not be able to learn at the same rate, etc. However, then many want to split up the kids into various groups ***and expect to see the exact same percentages as the whole***. Ain't gonna happen. THE KIDS ARE INDIVIDUALS. As much as we hate it, we MUST admit that due to history, there are groups that have social economic handicaps towards learning. There are also group that more advantages. If you create a group of brighter students, more of the second group will be in it than the
  21. Not so much the trucks or their drivers, I'd bet it was the SUV driving idiots that cut off the Semi's, then slam on the brakes that caused a bunch of those accidents. These guys drive in powder snow all over the place, but the drivers up there know that if they cut off a semi that's on ice, they are going to pushed over the edge of the road.
  22. Pubby, this is not a old model that they are clinging too, it's the new model. The old model was the way my high school was 30 something years ago... you had multiple levels of class to meet the needs of the students where they were. This is the new "Democratic" model where everyone will be the same... or else... [Note: "Democratic" is not referring to a particular party) I remember reading a short story years ago about a society where everyone was to be same. They had equality police to make it sure. If you were faster than the other people, you had to carry weights on you
  23. Ours came again on the North End of the county.
  24. rant It's a self fulfilling prophesy. You lump of the high end kids with the all the low end kids and you end up with no child left behind alright, they are all at the slow kid's level. The high end kids get bored out of their minds and become the troublemakers just about as bad as the ones that don't give a carp about learning. Instead of "No Child left behind" it should be "Every Child: All they can Be". To do that every child needs to be in a class where they are challenged, yet not overwhelmed. When I was in High School we had three levels of each subject. Scie
