Parents - warn your kids about Frozen Ponds!
The Sound Guy replied to eym_sirius's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Sad. We just haven't had cold weather like this for a few years for kids to learn from. RIP http://www.ajc.com/news/news/georgia-boy-13-falls-to-death-in-frozen-lake/nc7wy/ -
Talked with my carrier yesterday. She was on the second attempt to get in our subdivision after turning back when she found ice on the road in the morning. She is out of the Dallas office and they were told to take no chances with being hurt on the ice. I asked about the wreaked truck my son saw, it turns out it was from Dallas and the driver was injured in the crash, but my carrier had heard the driver was going to be OK though at the hospital for a little while. The mail truck slid off on 61N where it is like a cliff on the side of the road and no guardrails after they turned around on th

<Sigh> Yea, the land was free. But penny wise, pound foolish I agree. At least they should have gone ahead and cut a back entrance into that subdivision so there would be more than one way in/out. -
Shout out to a tow Company

Due to several unfortunate occurrences, (lucky for us, none this week so far), I have had cause to use several of the local wrecker services and have been pleased every time. -
They are giving free total access to the on-line version of the paper to make up for the missed deliveries to protect their carriers. They sent me an email to let me knowa about it. The carriers use their own vehicles, I'm sure they don't want to wipe out. I haven't had my car in this mess either. We got mail today. The carrier was making a second try at our street, she said it was still iced up this morning and they were told to take no chances. My son came down 61 late Tues night and they were still trying to get the mail carriers jeep up the side of the cliff where she ran off th

Hi Surepip. A old friend of mine was also at the show, he sells chicken equipment out of Kennesaw and lives off of Wade Green exit of 75. He called yesterday and told me he got the word from his wife about 3:00 and didn't get home until just after 1:00 AM that night. I don't think he tried to go back yesterday either. Hope you both are able to make up for the lost contacts.

Great! if the meter doesn't fill full of water, hopefully all is well.
-
Hmmm may be the meter itself is frozen if the cover wasn't on it. Mess could be on either side of the meter when it thaws. Good luck and keep an eye on it.

Those Forecasters are sooooo full of Carp. Their forecast was *WRONG* just six hours before the event. The state was trying to be proactive and had sent their truck South in response to the INCORRECT forecast making the situation worse. Even I can look at the radar and see the snow crossing the Alabama border and predict we're going to get snow, they are paid the big bucks and have the expensive computer gear to do better. A weather rock would have only be 6 hours behind their forecast. Phooey.

Thanks Pubby. It's just really strange that this PC, everything works fine. My work PC, nothing works. Gotta love computers.

Bad intersections and very slick roads*wrecks*
The Sound Guy replied to LPPT's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Found this on CNN. Explains some of what happened: **************** While many pointed their fingers at the mayor, Atlanta's only responsible for surface streets in the city. It's actually the state that's responsible for maintaining interstates -- where much of the gridlock occurred. The Georgia Department of Transportation commissioner said crews had been deployed farther south, but then scrambled closer to Atlanta as the storm got under way. But the traffic already choking the roads also blocked salt and sand trucks and snowplows. Myers, who is originally from Buffalo, New -
Bad intersections and very slick roads*wrecks*

I heard early on Tuesday morning that the forecast was for rain first, then turning to snow, which is common for a winter event here. (obviously, that didn't happen this time) Under those conditions, any pre-treatment just washes off the road and is useless, therefore, they did not go all out with the salt spray. By the time the warning was upgraded, it was too late to get anywhere near all the required roads done. -
What drives me crazy is I have one PC that everything is fine on, the other, none of the editing buttons work and I can't figure out why. Letter from Cliff Cole school superintendent
The Sound Guy replied to Lady Raider's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Boy I need to make sure I bookmark these posts for the next time they close school and nothing happens and people start complaining about having to burn a vacation day looking after the kids and losing their spring break for no reason. You know, the county can't win unless the weather people call this exactly which ain't gonna happen in a Georgia winter. -
Yep. I was 11, but I remember it. Big pine trees around the house all leaning over and one in the empty lot next to us fell over. Power went off for a while, but not as long as we expected.

LOL, I remember the last big snow, was it Christmas 2 years ago?, there was a guy in Senator's ridge that had moved down from up north and still had his plow for his pickup. He ended up plowing DBR and a couple of other subdivision roads. Wonder if he still has his plow?

Lake Point Sports Complex and Paulding Airport
The Sound Guy replied to surepip's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Dabbs bridge was already planned for commercial buildup long before the complex was announced. The land across from the first subdivision on the left was in process of being developed (as a convenience store as I recall) when the real estate crash killed the project. The 86 acres at HGCR and DBR has been for sale on and off for the last 8-10 years. Whoever owns it must want a fortune for it and are willing to wait. Ok by me. We moved to a subdivision off of DBR in 2000 and I knew then that since I didn't own the whole road, that view was doomed. I feel quite happy that for all the pai -
I'll believe it when my good old fashioned weather rock turns white. The forecast last time was 50%+ right up to the time we got nothing. Forecasters my foot. More like Weather Second Guessers.

What is the version designation? All of them I see are 100,000 lbs plus and the Paulding runway is rated at Weight bearing capacity: Single wheel: 50.0 Double wheel: 90.0 <--- 90,000 lbs All the 737 I have seen are double wheel on the main gear. The newer planes are getting heavier, not lighter. I just don't see it happening unless the BOC and AA are planning on giving the airline a pass and destroying the runway in a couple of years and sticking us with the bill. (Which from what I've read, they are allowed to do under the FAA rules)

Not sure I agree it's misleading. They are 5.55. each When you buy 3, you get 2 for free. You cannot get those 2 for free without buying the other 3. You do not have to get your two free ones, you can just buy 3 and your cost will be $5.55 each. However, assuming you get five, including the two that you pay zero for, the final cost is the equivalent of 3.33 each. I love these types of deals when I have a coke rewards coupon for the cost one of 12 pack, or 4.99 whichever is lower, as my final cost will be $2.33 each! Gotta head over their in a little while. Cheers!

I did a runway study in one of the many other threads, turns out that Paulding has the strongest runway between both McCollum and Bartow fields by a long shot. I don't think 737s can even land at Paulding fully loaded without overstressing the field, but they for sure cannot land at either of the other two local airports.
-
Buy 1 or 2, they are 5.55 each. Buy 3 at 5.55 each, get 5, which is 3x$5.55/5 = $3.33 each. Dang, I knew doing those word problems in 5th grade would pay off! :)

Lake Point Sports Complex and Paulding Airport
The Sound Guy replied to surepip's topic in RECENT TOPICS
To get to Hiram from the Complex would take approx 30 minute according to google maps going down 92. It that same 30 minutes, I can go straight down 75 and get to a world of hotels around the 75/285 Windy hill area where I can go to the Braves stadium as well. Or, head north and go to Calhoun and have the outlet malls to enjoy after the games. Let me see, which place would I rather stay? Hmmmmm. No, building hotels in Paulding to service the complex is a long shot concept at best and I would hope no bank is going to use that as a business plan. (I'd take my money out of any ba -
To me, a good bit of the problems in the area around HJ came from not the airport itself, but the county allowing low income housing to be built on the west side. I don't know *why* they allowed all those apartments to be build under the runway approach, but that has got to be a major source of issues in that area.

Just watched them swap off on covering the eggs and watching the one fly off on the approach cam. Awesome birds..
