Apples and Oranges again. You like those don't you? World of difference between sitting in a tent with the flaps open in 90 degree weather and in a closed car with sunlight streaming in clear windows. If you don't think so, please go spend 2 hours in each and get back to me on the results. Lots of people have survived entire days in tents before. Since the *PARENTS* of said children sent them out into the desert with nothing, I feel they are happy to have some shade to sit under. I would be. Those parents are as much idiots as the parents listed above as far as I'm conce

Bd of Ed Tax Hike Hearings Tuesday & July 22
The Sound Guy replied to AustinPlantation's topic in RECENT TOPICS
If more money is coming out of my pockets, then yes, my taxes have been raised. Period. However, by that definition, I have to say I had several years of tax cuts as my value went down but they kept the rate the same. The BOE had one+ more mil they could have legally raised the rates during the recession to try to maintain some of their budget and would have had every right to do so. My understanding of the law would be that they wouldn't have even had to have public meetings since the revenue would be lower than the previous year even with the rate hike, but I could be wrong on that, perha -
As I have been saying we need to do to protect our industries, the US had applied punitive tariffs on steel, solar panels and imports inputs from China and India, saying that their "Government owned" status results in them benefiting from both overt and hidden subsidies that lower their cost of production. (Like being the only employer in the country so they can set their wages and tell the people to take it or starve), not having to pay back investors, etc. How can business afford to manufacture here and pay a decent wage when competing against imports like that? The WTO has now ruled

Bd of Ed Tax Hike Hearings Tuesday & July 22

I guess it's a point of view thing. Since the tax digest was increased 14%, total tax revenue collected will go up 14% which is a tax increase. (By law, hence, the public meetings) *However* , since the board held the rate the same all through the digest drop from 2008 and did massive budget cuts instead of raising rates, I have no problem with them holding the rate the same while tax digest recovers at least part of the way back. I do hope that they are able to use the lessons of the recession to get the most out of the increased funds. Should they look to be using the windfall i -

But the rate is not changing, so it it's not a tax hike according to many on here. -
Even if there was no "conspiracy" and they were attempting to truly do what they thought best for the county, kinda like the old fashioned type of "public servant", they still had to know that doing this all in secret, while required due to the forces you mention, was going to backlash on them terribly. There used to be representatives who actually did that, but it's gotten rare to find as we teach our elected leaders to lie to us to get elected. Anyway, whether they did it as patriots willing to sacrifice themselves to do something that would be for the greater good of the county (Kinda

Near the north part of the county, several of the stations on/near 3rd Army Rd sell it. (Recommended for boat motors as well) .

Pubby - If the existing commission had just done tried and true attempts to get business in here like assisting in development of spec business parks and buildings rather than promising *our* money for these high risk, pie-in-the-sky projects like the movie studio and commercial traffic at the airport I think you'd seen a lot more support for them. I really did approve of the way the commission had handled the recession, but the complete lack of communication to the public on the airport deal was another nail in their coffin as it made many assume the worst about what they were trying to

Good to see you back Pip!! (And quit holding back and tell us how you really feel)

Obviously, liquor was the prime cause of the incident, if they outlawed that then we'd have no more issues like this one. The punk's gun was already illegal and that didn't stop the incident, so we need to attack the liquor!! On the serious side, with the way the news media is, I believe if the vet had threatened first, they would have written it up that way.

So I'm confused. Did Denzel Mickiel have a permit also? If not, how did he get a gun? I ask since Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. Thank goodness the veteran took the time and effort to get a legal permit or this story could be completely different. Also, 2 shots, 2 hits, in a very tense situation. Sounds like good gun control to me!! I hope the woman in his party that was hit (twice) recovers OK! Doesn't say if they caught the other two in Denzel's group that started shooting.

True. But if the commissioner's pickup day was today, you can bet it was open....

The web site states: Closed Thursday, Sunday & All major holidays I would expect it to be open. The Garbage people depend on it being open to do their rounds. They can't afford to miss two days in a row and have to make it all up.

I suspect that the owner of the building would be the one to pay just like property taxes. Yes, the renter actually gets the coverage too but then they are paying for it in their rent also. Oh yea, if you don't want coverage, move out of the country. Very freedom loving you liberals. And the ACA is stupidly written that I never have to suffer the consequences since I can buy coverage in the ER if I want and only pay the one month premium. Protecting the stupid and lazy from their consequences is the liberal motto. The tax penalties just make sure that I pay for all the -
The "marketing" installs (especially the "pre-checked" ones) really tick me off. Every Flash/Java Update (and there seems to be one every couple of weeks) makes me carefully read the download page and uncheck all the crap-ware installer options after getting caught a few times. Pain in the butt.

Apples and Oranges. Only those who actually own property pay for the protection for said property. Here the amount you pay is actually in proportion of the amount of property (value) that is being protected. If I sell my house, I no longer have to pay property tax on it. (Same for mandatory liability insurance on cars) With the liberal plan, the only option I have to not purchase health coverage is to kill myself so I'm no longer alive. Not exactly a great option. (But typical of Liberal "Choices" and "rights") Not to mention that those of us that actually work for a livin -

You may also find the terms changed with only fine print as warning. We've had our deductibles raised several times when our old deductible was discontinued. -

I don't get it. I guess all of you who are complaining don't carry collision coverage on your cars either. They are offering a plan that for $x a year, you never have to worry about paying for fire services. This is just like collision coverage on the car. You either pay $800 a year towards the collision coverage or pay $25,000 if you have an accident without it. Many professions offer services like that. I have a legal plan that I pay $15 a month and if I ever need a lawyer, I just call them up and get an appointment. No concerns on fees. Right now I pay 3 mils of my value -

Did they pass the proposed budget or a different one? This tablet has issues with video. -
Stayed at the residence inn on Amelia last week. Agree on the water not being particularly clear, but it was a nice beach. Not very touristy if you know what I mean. However downtown has restaurants and shopping if desired.

A/C set on 71 but 77 in house; I can barely breathe
The Sound Guy replied to MissSophie's topic in RECENT TOPICS
From my experiences, it could be a combination of issues. YMMV. I have seen a thermostat wired wrong where the heat and the A/C came on at the same time, but it was caught pretty quick. Doubt that is the issue here. Humidity has been high around here the last couple of weeks, your A/C dehumidifies as well as cools, if it's very humid in the house it will use all it's cooling power pulling the water from the air. Is there a lot of water coming from the unit drain outside? I had one house that we had a puddle form at the drain that frogs mistook as a pond, I had tadpoles grow to c -

Senators call for a 12 cent increase in gas tax.
The Sound Guy replied to CitizenCain's topic in RECENT TOPICS
It's another way to try to force people to drive more fuel efficient cars without outlawing them completely. Kinda like it's legal to be a Christian in Egypt, but you'll pay a lot more in taxes. So they leave and the problem is solved without shooting them. Of course the politicians have caused the problem themselves as consumption of gasoline is going down as wear and tear on the roads is going up as cars and trucks are forced by law to get more miles from the same gallon of fuel. (and electrics get to use the road FREE, but that is another issue as well) In fact, gasoline demand in th
