  1. I was there about noon today and picked up a 333 box. Lots of 50 boxes and 333 left. Salesperson told my son they had pallets of it in the back to support the opening. I'm just glad they had the 243 I shoot, I'd been looking for some for Deer Season for a couple months.
  2. Ah, the old "Higher taxes means growth" argument. It also drives farmers out of business, destroys family land holdings that have been held for generations, runs fixed income people out of there homes and land and removes greenspace, etc. The last argument is the most interesting for me since Democrats are supposed to be the "Green" party. So you are for wiping out forest and green space for buildings just because somebody other than the government owns it? There is plenty of land for sale around here now, if anybody want's some there is 87 acres available on Dabbs Bridge Road, it
  3. I think that curve is a left over from the horse trail days of the county. Glad to see the DOT is working on it.
  4. Yep. I'm still not happy about what MIGHT have happened, but it looks like everything worked right and it was a great picture to see him seeing/hugging his wife without having a sheet of glass between them.
  5. I always figured it was from the black powder "flash" used for early photography
  6. Dang, it was a kick butt storm at Dabbs Bridge and 61. House at the entrance to the subdivision lost a huge oak, pulled up by the roots. Next door neighbor lost another that broke a 18" popular in half on the way down. Greystone is still pulling trees off the lines.
  7. Now I'm not saying if this was a valid shoot or not. For me, it all depends on the man's actions when told to drop the weapon by the police. I'd have to see the video to know for sure. If he yelled "It's not real" at the same time he turned and pointed the weapon at the officers, they have to think they are under threat and in that case, whether he understood it or not, he had directly threatened a police officer and that gets you shot and if unlucky, killed. No matter who you are, when a weapon is out of the packaging and looks ready to shoot, waiting around to see if he shoots you first
  8. Part of the problem is Six Flags own policy. From their web site: Bold is mine. So the question becomes... rude to who? Vulgar to who? Offensive to who? How the heck am I supposed to know that they won't like my clothing before I've driven 150 miles to get there? Silly vague rules like this are what causes most of the conflicts. If they said "No clothing with weapon related graphics" then it would have been obvious the shirt didn't meet the code. As it is, now they have made the code even more vague by saying that weapon related shirts that have connections to non-pr
  9. I just can't figure out why the ignore button isn't used more. My enjoyment of this site went up 80% when I ignored just a couple of posters. It would be 100% but too many people insist on arguing with the brick walls that I ignored and quoting their replies. What is the old saying, wrestling a pig just means you both get dirty and only the pig enjoys it.
  10. It's pitiful. A bucket of water with the sign "Wash your hands, stay Ebola free". on it. Right, when Doctors covered with protection gear and using the best disinfectants they can get are coming down with Ebola. If that's the typical government reaction, I'm not surprised the people don't trust their government.
  11. This seems to be totally out of control. With the story I read today about a young nurse who died after getting Ebola by grabbing the arm of a patient, I just don't see how they are going to contain it over there. It's too easy to catch. In a slum like that with no trust of the government they could have 10000 deaths just there. It's heartbreaking.
  12. Oh man that's obvious. Pubby was pushing the airport for access to the super park in cartersville. We said there is no good way to get from the airport to cartersville that doesn't nearly as long as getting there from H-J. This road is to fix that. Straight shot to 41. Then up to the park. They still are trying to make that work. Dang.
  13. It depends on whether the value increased more than the decrease in the mil rate. Some will be higher, some will stay close to the same, some will be lower if the value stayed the same with the decrease in the mil rate.
  14. When my MIL had a stroke at our house last year, the EMTs were there within minutes and had it diagnosed and sent us to the hospital very quickly. The hospital told us that her getting there within an hour was the most important factor in her recovery. I've had no problems with Paulding county Fire/Rescue and thank them for their service.
  15. A good portion of the department's equipment budget comes from the SPLOST, as I recall, it's built several stations. The problem is getting the money for the people to staff those stations since the SPLOST only buys things. If we had not added all those stations, we'd have the people to put 3-4 firefighters per station with current staffing. Also, we are going to have to give it time, King Jerry swiped all the fire money from the main budget and gave it out to his buddies in other parts of the county when the fire tax passed. (despite claims otherwise, here on Pcom) The fire tax s
  16. Even so, if you can replace 2-3 cashiers with four machines and one "assistant" it may still have an advantage.
  17. LOL. Don't know I agree about who is responsible, but agreed that increased property values are at the base of it. However, the BOC and School Board have the ability to bring down the Fire Tax rate and the School Tax rate but didn't.
  18. I don't know the details on the assessment process, so I can't comment on it. However, I do suspect that the primary reason that the BOC rolled back the tax rates and didn't raise the revenue numbers for the general budget like they did for the Fire Tax and the School Board did for their budget is the continuing concern of the public on just those projects you mention and the costs behind them. A rise in the county budget would have brought on increased calls for explanations of how those projects were "not costing the citizens a cent". However, the majority of your tax bill is from t
  19. You can blame the School Board and the Fire Tax for the majority of the increase.
  20. Pubby - I guess Just Green is a lot like I am. As I mentioned to you years ago, I don't watch videos trying to pull the tidbits of useful information from them. My time is too valuable for that. And that is true of video on CNN, the AJC, FoxNews, video product reviews as well as PCOM. With very rare exceptions, I feel the written word is the best way to transfer information from one person to another. Reading the Paper for an hour gets me MUCH more useful information that watching an hour of "Action News!" At the least, I get to choose the stories that interest me rather than list
  21. LOL, not really. It's consistent and applicable to multiple situations, which is important if you are attempting to apply something you learned to a new situations that are much more complex than the simple example problems used in school. What do you tell your kids to do if there are four levels of calculation? Pick a symbol at random? Ever teach programming? Try explaining to the Java compiler that you want to use brackets and parentheses interchangeably: In Java, brackets and parentheses have very specific meanings. Trying to interchange them randomly will get you n
  22. That will change depending on the valuation changes. For instance, my valuation stayed close to the same, I suspect I'll see a small savings. For those that had a large increase in value, their taxes due may still increase even with the millage drop. Of course, with the universal ripoff that is escrow accounts, *I* won't see the savings for at least a year. My bank will hold onto the savings interest free for a year.
  23. Thanks Pubby. Did they discuss what the reduction amount will be? Of course, since the school board is the majority of the property tax, I won't be planning on running out and buying anything major with my savings.
  24. Reminds me of a family story: South Ga farmer saves up his money and sends his kid to school up in Atlanta. Christmas break the kid comes home and at the family party the dad asks the kid to say something educated. His kid proudly says "Pi R Squared!". Dad grabs his hat and starts beating on the kid with it yelling "You Dummy, Pie are round, cornbread are squared!!" Wait a minute... what was the original topic?
  25. Another example of taking something that is pretty simple (stacked parens) and creating something complicated as heck out of it. (three types of brackets) What they gonna do when they hit a problem with 4 layers of operations? Dang... just Dang.....
