  1. Ok, so you are saying that Republicans have such low self control that unless forced to balance the budget, they will spend like drunken sailors? Oh boy, that's a ringing endorsement for the party... NOT!
  2. Mount it on the front of the car as a protest, that's what we will do next year. If the tag hadn't been due the next day, I'd prob done it this year.
  3. The sad part is antagonizing non-Christians is so non-Christian to begin with. Yes, I know Jesus pushed the Jewish *leadership* of the time, the Pharisees and others, but he didn't go around insulting the temple or anything like that. How are we supposed to proceed to convert them (or at least live peacefully with them) after he's insulted them like this?? Wonder if he's thought that along with the troops, he's also very much endangering every Christian missionary and health worker over there that are really trying to extend God's hand to the poor of those countries. They may end up
  4. My wife has the Labrador Retriever one, she just thought it looked nice. The one time fee to get it, I didn't mind since it is "special". But this gouge fee has me changing my mind. If it's on there next year, I'll drive down and get a regular one and put this one on the front.
  5. <RANT> Got our first tag renewal since the new government fee change bill when active in July. You remember, the bill that all our Republican politicians touted saying that it would "start balancing the actual cost of doing a function with the fee involved". Well, that's not all it does. If you have one of the zillion "special" tags out there, be prepared to now be paying an additional $35 "Special Tag Annual Fee" every year you renew with that tag, even though it costs the the county absolutely nothing extra since you already have the blasted tag!! My renewal went fr
  6. We have four around the house that have found the feeder. One thinks he owns it, he sits on the branch near the feeder and watches for any of the other three, if he sees them, off he goes in hot pursuit! Then the other two come in and drink. I think they are pulling a Smoky and the Bandit on him.
  7. Did you follow HAZMAT procedures?!? That stuff is VERY dangerous. I'm trained in handling it, if you PM me I'll get it hauled off for you for a minor fee.
  8. Yep. A total threat to our national security. Nothing here citizen... just keep moving...
  9. Well as it stands now, looks like NC is just barely gonna miss having the overabundance of homes taken care of. However, depending on the track, my Uncle and Aunt may find themselves short one house. They are not in it, but they have been trying to sell it for a while. Oops.
  10. Here's a few of my favorites. (Yes, I have a weird sense of humor) What do you call a boomerang that doesn't work? A stick What has four legs, is big, green, fuzzy, and if it fell out of a tree Would kill you? A pool table What's the difference between an oral thermometer and a rectal thermometer? The taste These friars were behind on their belfrey payments, so they opened a small florist shop to raise the funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, the rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He went back and begged the friars
  11. Well, if we want to call a spade a spade, then we'd all have to agree that the *BOE* needs the big bow, they are close to 2/3s of our tax bill and they kept the rate the same (pretty much had to, they could not raise it past 21 mils anyway) and that produces most of the savings. But I have to say that the argument that a decrease in value means that net taxes should go down is just not correct. The very people complaining about the rate change being approved before the budget prove it. The budget comes first because it controls the amount of taxes that the people of this county will pa
  12. Oh yea! I especially like the big jump in 2007!! That 2 mil backdoor increase Jerry hit us with by dropping fire from the general budget was such a smooth move most people didn't feel the hand in their wallets. Looks like the only increase you had in 2009 was the state $300 increase with the cancellation of the tax credit.
  13. Yea, but if you look, most of that increase is in 2007, the School Bond, Wildlife bond, and I think the fire tax hit that year too (Jerry's free 2 mil General fund increase) You need to compare to 2007 after the new taxes were added. Also you are paying $300 more a year last year and this year due to the state canceling the property tax credit, don't forget to add that to calculation. Still have to see what millage rate for the bonds for the new government center Jerry built is. The current BOC can't do anything about any of those costs. There are too many pieces of the t
  14. Thanks!! Down over $500 this year, lowest it's been since the big jump in 2007. If the state had not jumped the state taxes by $300 last year we'd been down two years in a row! On another note, I don't think I like the new on-line system as well as the old one, as I recall, the old system would let you see the individual charges for county, BOE, Bonds etc didn't it? I don't see any way to do that with this system. Has anyone been able to do that?
  15. That sounds like a great use for it. I'm glad to see they are not just letting it sit.
  16. When we bought our feeder, I got one of the squirrel resistant ones from WBU and been pretty happy with it. I've seen squirrels on the suet feeder and picking up dropped seeds from the deck, but they haven't been able to empty this feeder like they did my home built ones. Love the finches. We haven't seen our woodpeckers much either since summer started. We use a WBU choice mix and get the finches and many other smaller birds up to Cardinals. Even had a hummingbird finally at the hummingbird feeder!!
  17. Been in Idaho Falls this week and it's been perfect! Lows in the low 50s, highs in the 80's and DRY. When I open the front door of the house and fish swims in the air is TOO WET.
  18. Surepip - Where did you read that logic has anything to do with their arguments? What I want to know is why if the GOP "leadership" thinks the county should be able to run off of the 2005 budget or so, where were they in 2005-2008 when Jerry was running up our taxes? Why were they not all over Jerry when he stole the 2 mil fire budget when he transferred the cost to the fire tax, but didn't reduce the tax rate in the general funds. Jerry should have dropped the general fund tax rate by that 2 mils but didn't, he just had a spending spree by the other departments with the money, running u
  19. I personally left the computer out of the loop. I wanted a Blueray player anyway, so I got one that has Netflix and YouTube built in. Extended my wired ethernet to the TV and it's great!! My wife loves having all the old movies and shows on netflix available on the big screen. You set up your instant queue on the PC, then use the remote to select which Item in queue you want to watch. My wife has something like 50 items in queue now. (And I get to use the computer for other things. I highly recommend it. I currently have the $10 a month broadcast basic. If that goes to
  20. Better question is what mandates will we be stuck with that this money won't cover?
  21. Pubby - do you own the ad server or is it a service you hire?
  22. Sounds like it would also disable texting for passengers, in which case 1.6 million parents would be irate since it's only their kids texting that keeps them quiet during long trips... It would be back to counting cow's legs and dividing by 4 again...
  23. Today is a *very* important anniversary for me, it's been 25 years since I married my best friend. My saddest is now thinking about May 16, had my company not gone bankrupt, last May 16th would have have been my 22nd year with them. We're still lucky enough to have both our parents with us.
