If so, then that guy and his wife are even more stupid than I thought. From what I saw in the report, it was a grass fire, then a shed fire, then a house fire over a period of two hours. If they didn't manage to get the animals out of the house in two hours, shame on them. I feel quite sure had a person been trapped, they would have fought the fire at least up to the point the person was out. Then let it go. It's like the gun laws, protecting life has different rules than protecting property.

Be interesting to see how often that fire department really gets paid after the fact. It's kind of like surgery, or an ambulance ride , it's a service that cannot be repossessed. If the house burns down anyway, would you pay up a $700 bill or get mad and refuse to pay it? I doubt it is worth the hassle of the department suing for the payment. I will say that after seeing a trash fire burn down my Dad's place 20 years ago, I'd fork out $75 a year for fire without a whimper, considering my fire insurance now is over $1000 a year just to replace what does burn. $75 a year is nothing. 11-year-old found with handgun at Paulding County school
The Sound Guy replied to onekidmom's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Not to mention that at a minimum, it should have had a trigger lock on it. All mine did while my kids were that age. -
We're on DSL and I have no idea how I would find out what we've used, but since my wife is on Netflix all the time with downloaded movies, I imagine we could use a *lot* of bandwidth if you figure a DVD is about 5 gigs.

I have them do that when I buy a car too... I've always wondered if the extra tax money went to Paulding or Cobb just got a windfall tax.

It's a small thing, but it won't affect this year's bill, it won't start until Nov, 2011. Also, I never have understood the joy about tax deductions from taxes. The deduction would only be worth at most 30% of the property tax saved, so take 30% of the property tax savings and send it to the IRS. You are still left with 70% of the savings in your pocket. That's worse than paying 100% to the county? I'm still not understanding your reference to a property tax increase with respect to this vote. There is no increase, you are already paying these taxes (and will be for the nex

Hi CJ - I think the confusion is coming up because there are two different types of bonds that the BOE has issued. Upon the last SPLOST passing in 2005, the BOE were so desperate for funds, they included wording on the SPLOST that allowed them to issue 5 year bonds for something like 60 million dollars, so that they got all that money up front, and were planning on using the SPLOST collections to pay off those bonds. That way they didn't have to wait on the money. If there was anything left over after the bond payments, it was to go into the building fund. These bonds are totally differe

Actually, I looked at the SPLOST presentation on the BOE site and this one is NOT for the kids. It's for the property tax payers. Primary task for this SPLOST is to pay our School Bond tax of 2.9 something mils for the years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. Look at your current tax bill and find the line for the BOE School Bonds. That amount would be paid for you for the next 5 years by the SPLOST. What happens to to any other raised by the SPLOST is still unknown, but it is secondary to paying part of our tax bills for the next 5 years. Pretty smart on the BOE's part. I think

Comcast about to lose another customer
The Sound Guy replied to The Sound Guy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Well, may be PMing you soon. Tried to get on the Comcast site to see about expanding my service and get full digital. Enter my address into the screen, hit go, and ... it goes back to the address screen. Try again. Same thing. I guess they just don't want my business... -
Or, from the information posted earlier, it's more like the "I like paying the 2.9 mils on my property tax for school bonds, thank you very much!" vote.
-
Well, now that is interesting! From Kim's comments I was thinking it would be an attempt to pay off the older bonds above and beyond our normal payments, not using it instead to make the current payments for us. I like the idea of dropping the bond rate to zero. So as I read this, we will pay next year's bond payments in November. The BOE starts collecting the new SPLOST in March, building up a reserve until Nov when the SPLOST takes over paying of the bonds. So in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 we get approx 3 mils of bond payments made for us. Not bad. Using Cliffs number

Actually, if you assume that the funds each LOST produces would have to be raised via a millage rate increase one way or another, then each LOST stands on it's own with those numbers. The numbers I generated were for a 1% tax compared to the tax reduction it generates. If you are looking at all three LOST, you save 3 times as much, but your property taxes go up 3 times as much also, so it's a wash. From before, for this tax you would still have to purchase per the chart to break even: Property..Assessed...Taxes..In-County Value.....Value......Saved..Purchases $50,000..$20,000...

Thoughts on the BOE SPLOST on the Nov 2nd Ballot?
The Sound Guy replied to The Sound Guy's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Hi Kim - Yes, many of us noticed that you didn't raise the rate and appreciate it, though I myself would have understood if felt you had to. I also realize that you cannot come out and directly support voting for or against SPLOST. I also understand that some words have specific legal meaning and have to be used to describe the legal limits on the vote.. Unfortunately, most of us are NOT lawyers and the wording of the $35 million section (below) is confusing and that makes it bothersome to me. I hope I have not come across as attacking with this thread, I have not meant to be, b -
Ok, so they take the time to pull up all the board meeting minutes and count the listed votes where she was late/absent and post them for you yet they are not "legitimate"? What exactly are you looking for? The BOE to certify the count? Obama's SOS to certify it? Photocopies of all the minutes posted here? If you are that concerned he's lying, take a minute to pull up one or two of the meetings and check 'em. If they are wrong, then you'll have a case.

Thoughts on the BOE SPLOST on the Nov 2nd Ballot?
The Sound Guy replied to The Sound Guy's topic in Paulding County NEWS
Actually they are expanding at several schools this year to try to keep up. McClure had several classrooms added last year and a new wing is being added to North and PCHS is finishing up the Science/Admin building. I talked with a county official about a year ago and was told there is still building going on in the county, it's just it's the little 150K homes that have just as many kids, but don't generate near enough tax money that are getting built. Look at the enrollment numbers in the BOE budget presentation, they are not going down. I don't have a problem with the SPLOST fo -
East was the better team, that RB looked like he was coated with butter and the WR should be a track star, *but* they got some help from the officials too. I think East would have won anyway, but the officials were calling it all EP in the 1st quarter.

Thoughts on the BOE SPLOST on the Nov 2nd Ballot?
The Sound Guy replied to The Sound Guy's topic in Paulding County NEWS
In my case, it's more of an issue with the "personal" and "desirable" adjectives being thrown in there. I'm pretty sure there are legal reasons they are there, but dang, this sounds like a license to buy just about anything the board wanted. Check it out with the BOE lawyer if you must, but can you not get a legal explanation of why those terms are in there and what it means in "real world" speak instead of legalese? Thanks, SG -
+1 I would add it is also often people that are fed up with "government as usual" by any political group. In some cases that means voting for nutcases instead of the "establishment" candidate. In NH, that will cost the Repubs the seat, but if they don't get the message, it will cost them a lot more. IMHO.

Comcast about to lose another customer
The Sound Guy replied to The Sound Guy's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Ok, at least it's not just me having issues. Guess I'll get back in town tomorrow and it will be time to get on the phone again to Comcast. Dang, I really have better stuff to do with my time than this... -
Yep as one that has screwed up my account more than once, I will second that Pubby is good to work with you on it.
-
No it wouldn't. It would be terrible. It's bad enough that my wife stops at CFA every time she goes out now. With one that close, she'd be driving to it all the time just to get a tea. I'd be bankrupt and homeless within six months.

Neighbor's dog we were taking care of ate the TV remote. When they got back we were told it was OK, they'd eaten 3 or 4 others already. I guess they really do look like a chew bone...

OK, did a quick search and didn't see any comments on the School SPLOST on the ballot, so thought I'd start one. Kim Cobb - I know you are limited in what you can say publicly on this issue, but if you can explain some of the obscure legalese, I'd appreciate it. It may be the only way you'll get a "YES" vote from me on it. Here is the text off the ballot from the Ga Sec of State office for my address: My Paulding Ballot Interesting.... lets look at the purposes... Wow, down to the last 50 cents... I actually like this idea, pay off the existing bonds quick
