  1. This is a recipe for french toast that I make for all of our holiday breakfasts, or if I have to cook breakfast for a lot of people this is what I always make. It's really simple. 1-2 loaves of french bread from bakery (the big ones, not baguettes) heavy cream (or you can just use half and half and cut out the heavy cream and whole milk) whole milk eggs (3-4 for two loaves of bread) cinnamon powdered sugar butter (real butter works better, in my opinion) *The amount of each ingredient will just depend on how much french toast you're making but you don't want a really thin custard
  2. I have always kept lip balm in my pocket or purse because my lips chap very easily. For years, I used Carmex and always thought how smart I was to keep it in my pocket because I always had chapped lips. I finally realized, when i ran out and didn't buy more, that the Carmex was actually causing my chapped lips, not healing them. I started buying the Burt's Beeswax lip balm and it is the only thing that I use now. There aren't a bunch of chemicals in it so it doesn't CAUSE my lips to chap. It's a little pricey for lip balm (anywhere from $2-4 depending on the store), but one tube lasts me
  3. How EXCITING!!! Congratulations to all of you!!!!
  4. I wouldn't be ashamed at all!! The time that you two spend with them, and the memories you're making while spending time with them will be remembered LONG after the toys have been forgotten. I don't remember many (if any) gifts I got as a child, but there is rarely a day that goes by that I don't think about times spent with my grandparents, my parents, and the rest of my family. Time has become the most precious gift in my world.
  5. I am so very sorry. I had the same thoughts that you posted when we lost our "Honey". I cried for weeks and my heart just hurt. I will send up a prayer for you. RIP Tootsie.
  6. I'm really wondering why it would matter if she WAS lying? What difference would it make to any one of you? If her son was the one who found or took the bullets, why would she feel the need to come to p.com where she has NEVER posted before, and make up an elaborate story? I'm more shocked by the behavior of some of you than I am the story about bullets being found in a pair of pants. I happen to believe that the lady is being honest. However, if I thought that every word of her story was a lie, what difference would it make in my life?
  7. Those get me and so do the Publix commercials that they air around the holidays. Especially the one where the little boy and his mom make cookies together and the mom is thinking they are for someone at school until the next day when the kid leaves them in the car. Gets me every time!
  8. We usually put ours up on Black Friday after shopping but we shopped a lot longer this year so we have decided that we will put the tree up Sunday. We would do it tomorrow but we're celebrating Thanksgiving w/ the inlaws.
  9. We all spend the night w/ my mom and dad so that we don't have to drag our daughter out of bed to take her to my parents at 3 am. It's become a really fun tradition. My husband and I got up at 245 this morning and left about 330. We had a wonderful time together, and after doing this for so many years, have learned that being patient is a MUST! We shopped longer this year than we ever have. We're usually back home by 10:30 but today, we didn't get back until close to 4. I absolutely LOVE Black Friday because of the time that my husband and I get to spend together and the fact that our da
  10. My dad's dad was by far, the most gentle, loving, and compassionate human being to ever walk this earth. My granddad was an incredible man and I adored him more than my simple words can express. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, although I didn't know that until this past Monday when I was at my parent's house. I will never forget the smell of their house when I would walk in on Thanksgiving and Christmas and honestly, I would give my right arm to experience that smell one more time. My granddad died in 1999, when I was 19. It was hard for me then, but ten years later, at 29 years ol
  11. I agree! But it wasn't JUST the horrendous odor that got my attention. It's also the fact that, if you're in there late enough, you'll see buggy after buggy lining the front of the store and several of them have eggs, milk, meat, and cheese in them. I am not convinced that Walmart throws all of that stuff away and takes their loss. I am convinced, however, that they re-stock that crap and I am convinced of this because I have purchased meat only to realize when I got home, that it had spoiled possibly days before I bought it. I've always been the weirdo that loves to grocery shop but I do
  12. I agree with everyone else! We were having some issues a while back with our computer and my husband sent him a PM asking when he could bring our PC by for Mike to check it out. Mike helped us out through PM'S!, got our computer back on track, and didn't charge us anything! Since then, anytime we hear someone talking about computer issues, we always recommend Mike!
  13. We celebrated Thanksgiving today at my grandmother's house and ate from about 3 until 5. Everything was so good.
  14. Yes, my husband asked. I remember asking my husband if he knew he had to ask for my dad's permission and he said "I wouldn't marry you without it!" Of course, I was 22 and my husband was 26 then so I was far too young NOT to ask. My husband was very nervous. He says he was more nervous asking my parents if he could marry me than we was asking me to marry him.
  15. I have done the cooking without heat thing many, many more times than I care to share. My husband is the world's worst for putting non-refrigerated items in the refrigerator and there is rarely a day that passes that I know exactly where my rings, keys, and phone are when I'm ready to walk out the door. We have specified places for all of those things and yet, I never seem to put them where they go.
  16. I am so sorry for the loss of such a young life. His family and friends will be in my prayers. I'm gonna miss that smile I'm gonna miss you my friend Even though it hurts the way it ended up I'd do it all again So play it sweet in heaven 'Cause Thats right where you want to be I'm not cryin cause I feel so sorry for you I'm cryin for me
  17. Praying for your husband and for you.
  18. Born in Atlanta but we lived in Austell, and in 1983 when I was 3 years old, we moved to Paulding. My husband and I moved to Rockmart (still Paulding) three years ago and I'm ready to get back to civilization, aka, Hiram. When we moved to Paulding in '83 there was nothing in Hiram. Even when I was a little older I can remember having to go to Dallas to go grocery shopping, and Cumberland was the closest mall. I'll never forget how exciting it was when Kmart was built. All of my friends from church called Hiram the boondocks and now most of them live here.
  19. J, You have to try Yuban. My parents buy the organic Yuban but I really can't tell a difference. I have a coffee scoop that is 1/8 of a cup. I make coffee like I made bottles...one scoop of coffee to every 2 cups of water (i use the measure on the coffee maker, not an actual measuring cup). If you have a 1/4 cup measure, fill it up (heaping a little) and then fill the coffee maker up just past the 4 cup line. My best friend always said that coffee is coffee until I made it one day while she was here. Now she only buys Yuban coffee because she says that even with all the coffee mate and
  20. We haven't made any definite decisions yet. My daughter, who is almost 4, asked me in September if I would help her start a list. Her list has grown now to three pages, front AND back. When I realized this, I decided it was time to have a talk and told her that Santa doesn't bring everything on everyone's list, which was fine with her. She said the one thing that she really, really wanted was a $14 baby doll that we saw at Walmart. Hey, I can handle that. Before summer, Target had a pink Spongebob digital camera on sale for $10 so we bought that. We ordered some books through her book f
  21. It doesn't annoy me I just think it's weird. However, my husband has a great solution for "those" kids. He keeps all the extra soy sauce, duck sauce, and hot mustard packets from Chinese takeout and if there are any teens that aren't in costume, that's what they get from us. More than anything though, it's just fun between the two of us b/c the kid has no idea that's what they're getting. I'm happy to say that no one got chinese condiments this year...everyone was dressed up!!!
  22. I don't leave my daughter in the car alone but she's only 3. If I need gas and plan on paying with cash rather than my debit card, I go to Kroger and park at the pump closest to the cashier with her side of the car facing the cashier so that when I pay, I can see her.
  23. I don't know what I'm getting him yet. We usually make a list and then pick a few things off of each others lists to buy.
